What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
Yes, 12th continues to channel his inner Earthquake as Smooty put it.
I really think I'm going to pass out before Sunday get's here from all the anxiety! But beyond the obvious, what will a 4-1 record really mean to the organization, the city, the fans..and the team itself? No doubt, the Skins will have positioned themselves for a good run at the playoffs, but will this team somehow be looked at any differently from the one that made the playoff run a couple of years ago? Does it mean that perhaps Gibbs and his vaunted coaching staff have turned the corner? More importantly, is it too early to have unbridled optimism? Too many questions, so little time... |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
Let me put it like this. I do not live and breathe what the self appointed authorities in the press say................but I am sick and tired of all the we suck, bad team, bad staff, wasted millions of drivel we have heard for WAY THE F...to long.
If we win this week, that dumbass rhetoric will cease for all but extreme dumass's, like Salsbury, We will achieve legitimacy to those other than the Redskin faithful. We will be a REAL "in-season" threat (not just pre-season). HTTR KICK THE PACKS ASSSSSSS |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
You know, last week I mentioned that the game had somewhat of a "playoff vibe" too it. Well, we're pass that now. And we did well.
This week, if I had to describe it, it's almost like the team is getting a mid season makeover. A new image, so to speak. |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
This is the biggest game of the year for us, so far. If we beat the Pack, it will be huge. Who cares about the media, if we win it will help the team a lot. It will give us confidence and momentum. We can be the best team in the league, we just have to believe it.
|
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
Right now a lot of the power rankings have the Skins in the top 10, but they are also the worst of the 3-1 teams (ranked 8th or 9th). A win this week should obviously put the Skins higher than the Packers who are ahead of them, but it should move them up to the top 5 or 6 I would hope. Even with a win, and a Cowboys loss, I don't think the Skins will pass the Cowboys in the power rankings until the Boys have more losses than the Skins or the Skins play them and beat them.

Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
I think it depends on HOW we win. Not that any win won't be big, it will be. But if our D can shut down GB even 50% as much as we did Detroit & JC plays well, there will be a lot of talk & raised expectations. If the pokes lose in addition, PTI will debate the best team in the nfc.
Some still will say that we haven't faced a good, well balanced offense, which is true to an extent. |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
This is the first of 5 of 7 games on the road. I say if the Skins can get through this rough part of the schedule at 4-3 they'll be in very good shape for the stretch run.
To answer the original question here I believe a road win against the Pack will solidify the Skins as a legit contender in the NFC. |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
It means one step closer to the playoffs, that's it.
It's been a while since we had a solid team to cheer for, So I can understand the excitement but all the hype doesn't mean anything without a strong showing in the playoffs. The chargers had one of the best seasons in NFL history last year and ended 1 and done in the playoffs. I couldn't care less about ESPN, CNNSI, Peter King or any other power rankings. The only ranking that matters is the top 6 in the NFC at the end of week 17. Get in the playoffs and then, You let the teams rank themselves. |

I don't buy that argument anymore. In fact, this whole thing floating around the media and even here on Warpath, they've only played so and so team, or next week is a real test...then when next week comes....the next week is a bigger test. The same can be said about Dallas and New England, who have they played of stature? The truth is, the majority of the league is somewhere in the middle right now, and any given Sunday the outcome could swing either way. You play who's on the schedule and do your best. |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
12th another good thread. i think it really goes a long way in making the organization start to believe that they really are a playoff team. too me, a win in green bay goes a long way
|
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
I think if this team makes the strides we all hope for this season then Sunday's game vs GB is HUGE! Not only for confidence, but for tiebreakers later in the year vs a good NFC opponent.

Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
It will mean we've essentially tied the Cowgirls for first place with 1 loss each. :)
When's their bye? |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
What does it mean if we lose in embarrassing fashion?

The g-men probably have the most balance. Miami tried to run on us but couldn't, otherwise the teams we've played have not stuck to the run for long. |

And point is, how many balanced offenses are out there...even in the NFC for that matter? You play, what, one or two of these teams a year maybe? So the argument will be a reoccuring one in my mind. The minute you play a team that has a balanced offense or a good this or that, chances are you are playing a really, really good team. Most teams in the NFL are probably somewhere in the middle. |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
It will mean we are 4-1. One game at a time.

Great, now Offiss is going to call me out and accuse me of draining his bank account Seriously though, I'm going to throw on my mod cape for a minute and say let's wait until next week to see how/if Offiss responds should (when) we win |

That they beat Green Bay!!

Seriously though, no Offiss's were actually harmed in the creation or execution of this post. No harm intended! |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
It will no doubt be a big win, beating a good team on the road! EVERY win is big...because it gets us closer to the playoffs!
|

that's hot. |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
It means we can win in a hostile environment against a good team...a 4-1 record...and one less game we have to win to get into the playoff.
|

Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
It will mean that if the Pack, Lions and Skins all finish 10-6 we get the WC. I'm not blind enough to believe that they will finish 15-1 and I doubt the Cowpokes will lose more than 3-4 so all games against NFC foes are big.
|
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
It will mean this team is going in the direction we think it is, UPWARD! 4-1.
This is a BIG TEST on the road, this could be a HUGE NFC WIN! |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
It would be a road win against a fellow playoff contender. When was the last time that the Skins have done that? And I'm not counting Philly this year. Suffice it to say that it would be a huge win and confidence booster.
|
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
I believe it will mean that we are a legit contender in the NFC, and quite possibly one of the top two teams in the NFC. Who's the other one? I'm not saying...LOL!
|
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
To redskins fans like us it will mean that we finally have a good team, but to the media it will mean nothing, they will have there excuses and all you will hear about is how the packers lost the game, nothing about us winning it. Get used to it, Tony Romo can throw 5 int. in one game and fumble the ball away but still be labled a warrior because he brought Dallas back, which is a complete joke, Jason Campbell could throw for 350 yards and 4 TDs and still be labled an average QB, this is the life of a Redskins fan.

I don't know. I don't mean to disagree with you, but I thought everyone was giving Campbell nothing but love. |
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
im am thinking the patriots though as our real yardstick
|
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
At 8:00 p.m. on NFL Network they are going to tell everyone why the Redskins are going to beat the Packers. I just saw it scrolling across the bottom
|
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
I wish they wouldn't do that, look at the Giants game
|
Re: What Will It Mean if the Skins Win Sunday?
To me at least the game this sunday isn't a big indication of how the league views us, but rather of how the redskins players will view themselves...
I think a win, or a strong performance, as a team and by individuals, could really be encouraging for the players (and coaches) and be a real confidence booster. On the other hand, an embarassing loss could really deflate the team and cause a snowballing panic effect. That to me is why this is a big game, not because we could be 3-2 or 4-1. I would like to see, regardless of the outcome, JC really step it up and show that he can pick apart a solid defense while committing few mistakes. I would also like to see our offense line come together as a unit and really stifle a daunting pass rush. Along with that I want them to really dominate the line of scrimmage so we can see positive gains on 80-90% of the running plays. It goes without saying but I want our D to continue to play together as a team and limit time of possession (turnovers would be nice too). If we can do these things, I am pretty confident that we will win the game and I will personally be assured that we are a legit team that will challenge for a playoff berth. |
