Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
Joe Theismann said he's interested in pursuing NFL analyst work in 2008 and hopes to speak with NFL Network, among others. ''I feel unchallenged but not bored,'' he said. ''I have other business interests.'' And he also gives motivational speeches. What does he think of Monday Night Football now? ``Ron is a terrific football guy but he happens to work on Tony's show. It has become a three-hour Tony Kornheiser show. When I was let go, they explained they wanted more of an issue show and less about football. They've accomplished that.'' Nah... no bitterness there

Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
he might be alittle bitter, but he is right. mnf is always looking for a little glitz. but i think jaws is a huge upgrade over Joey T. and i even like Theismann

Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I can't say I disagree with him.

Yeah but why not have Jaws and some other analyst? TK is fun to listen to but MNF gets too annoying. Thats why I just watch at bars, so the volume of the TV is off. |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I've actually been disappointed in Tony Kornheiser on MNF. The format isn't really suited towards his abilities.
On his old show on ESPN Radio, he is very witty and really funny when telling stories. The problem is, he had virtually unlimited time to make an impact, whereas with MNF, he's got to get it down to about 5 seconds. So far, he hasn't adjusted well if you ask me. One thing about Jaws though -- for people who think Theismann talked too much, there isn't much difference between him and Joey T. Jaws can blabber with the best of them. |

I had the crabcakes and filey mignon dinner -- it was fabulous. |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I said before I thought that Joe should go to NFL Network. I think that would be good environment for him.
I think a lot of people who watch football games in order to see football being played will be sympathetic with his comments about the current broadcast. Although, I sensed the other night that perhaps a shift has taken place. It looked and sounded as though, someone said something to somebody, or a meeting took place, or a memo went out. Football was much more front and center. |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I don't like Mike Tirico. Tony and Jaws are OK. I always feel like Mike is trying to hard to belong. Tony is trying to be funny and sometimes he is. Jaws is the Dan Fouts of the booth. The straight guy with the football knowledge. I don't know who is at ABC or ESPN that should replace Mike, but I wish they had more of a football guy doing the play by play.
|
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I don't really mind it when it's not a "football guy" doing the play-by-play. As long as the guy doing the insights knows what he is talking about I am fine.

Sounds familiar...
I agree with him 100% and if what he said they want more of an issue show than football they have done a great job. They could turn the whole thing around but that MNF game we played a couple of weeks ago supports what JT said and was about the worse annoucing I have ever seen. Oh, by the way Redaskins called a timeout. That said as they were interviewing Charles. |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I'll have to throw my 2 cents in here being a big Theismann fan AND a big PTI fan. I like Jaws commentary, he's very insightful and does a great job explaining plays...plus his demeanor is much more bright and happy than Joe's, which is why I think they made the move to him to be with Kornheiser. I'm sure they thought Tony & Joe would get into it, which would take away from the game...yet it seems they're doing that anyway, just in other ways. I HATE the way they bring guests in there for a whole quarter....firstdown is right....they hardly even talk about the game when they do that!
That being said, I don't like Tony on MNF. I understand why they did it due to the popularity of PTI...but honestly, I think Wilbon would have been much better at it...but I guess he's not funny enough or something. So why not just have 2 guys in the booth??? And how come Wilbon no longer does Monday article of the Redskins game anymore for the Post?? With him not being a Redskins fan, I always thought he did a good job describing the game and felt he always gave a good, fair analysis. |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I agree 100% w/ Theismann. They don't need 3 guys in the booth. Personally I don't need Tony K. or Dennis Milller or anyone other funny guy trying to crack jokes every 5 minutes. I want to hear about football and football only. If I want comedy I'll turn on Comedy Central. I also don't need Charles Barkley or anyone else coming in the booth for 15 minutes. Monday Night Football has become a big joke.

It always seems like Tony and Jaws are competing with each other and stepping on each other's toes. And do they really need to do a halftime version of PTI?? A lot of the time because of the crowd Tony and Wilbon can't hear each other and it ends up looking like a train wreck. |

Yeah, that night sucked but I'll give them a pass. Barkley is a tough dude to talk over & I got the impression they tried a couple times to get him out of there. Became more of a talk show than football coverage. As mentioned on a thread here, mnf was much better this week - coverage was really good actually. I like the team they have & I love Tony K. I think having another football analyst in the booth would get too busy. I like the forumula: Jaws - micro, Tony - macro, Tirico- play by play |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I just like to watch football, I personally don't care really if the on-air talent is Gilbert Gottfried and Rosie Perez. If it's a good game, I'm watching. But I guess that's just me.

I used to be a PTI fan and even liked Toney on PTI. MNF has completly ruined that for me. Ever since Tony started last year I cant stand him. I cant even watch PTI anymore. I honestly would rather have CBS broadcast MNF with their crappy cameras and listen to Phill Simms and Pat Summerall then have 3 guys fight over the mic and listen to Tony's rants. How did Fox ever cornor the market on decent announcers? |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I liked watching Tony back in the day on those Redskins shows on WTTG with Bernie Smilovitz and reading his Sunday column in the Style section of the Washington Post

What is it with women named "Rosie"? They're all annoying. The only "Rosie" I know that doesn't suck is... well, nevermind. |

And it isnt even a good overall, it's an attempt to be funny, and many times just wrong. I like the idea of balance, but in this case it is just that. An idea. |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I think it comes down to them believing their own hype. Despite the cush job that it must be for them. Despite the fact that it's big ratings for a very important, and specific demographic for the most part.
We don't believe that they are worth that much to us. I think that most of us would agree that your enjoyment of the game would not noticably change if they completely changed the broadcast team. Why cant we go back to limiting their on air time. I don't need to see them. I don't want to see them. Let's just hear them. And Tony K. was well loved because he wasnt quite the biggest thing in the country. Well now he is, and as Americans, we need to tear "the man" down. |

I agree with him 100%. I can't stand Tony or Jaws. IMO JT was much better than either of those two clowns. I would have chopped Tonys neck first! |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
if you ask any of the analysts what the score was on the spot they wouldnt get it right
|
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I alway's thought JT did a great job breaking the game down, and was entertaining as he did it. But change is alway's going to happen, I can't say they are better for it, but I do like Jaws.

Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
Joey T Will Be A Great Addition To The Nfl Network Staff...he Can Come In Relief Of Dick Vermiel When He Has No Voice And Give Us Our Thanksgiving Football!
|
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
Resurrect Don Merrideth, Frank Gifford and Howard Cosell making MNF/MNF again. The more things change, the worse they become.
|
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
I'm surprised that Tony hasn't been better at MNF. I am a big fan of his but I agree that the format just doesn't seem to lend itself to his talents.
Jaws on the other hand I believe is doing fine, and is a huge upgrade over Joey: in terms of both football knowledge and overall congeniality. |

Found this. If you close your eyes, Bernie Smilovitz sounds just like Ron Jeremy: [YT]XgzD-RwZ40Y[/YT] |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
IMO first TONY KORNBALL would have gone. And secondly I would have never hired that Jankee doodle ass JAWS HE AWEFUL!, he goes through me like a rusty nail!
Joey T your better off without that clown show! And no worries you'll find a new IMPROVED GIG! |
Re: Joe T. takes a "jab" at MNF
More than any other game of that week, Monday Night isn't about the game.
Its about issues that the Media are concerned with. The Giants Falcons was the worst listening to them discuss Atlanta like we should feel badly for them. Still wasn't Joe's place to comments b/c he just looks postal. |
