Having nothing to do with football... for someone his age to have these problems is really a depressing thing.

Very sad news, sorry to hear.

Re: Ron Springs in coma

Of course this is not nearly as important as the health of Shawn's dad, but surely this will have an impact on Shawn's capacity to play in the near future. Obviously a very strong distraction and yet another unfortunate event for the Springs family.

It's so devastating to think that after all he's been through, a procedure to remove a cyst would have such a catastrophic consequence.

My prayers go out to Ron Springs, Shawn, and the entire Springs family. I wish him the best, and trust he can, and will recover.

I hope he pulls through. The story earlier in the year about his kidney transplant was a real feel good story.

Re: Ron Springs in coma

One of the things that most impressed me about Shawn Springs was when he was completely willing to give his dad one of his own kidneys, even though it meant he would have to give up his NFL career.

Good kid.

Even has me rooting for One Cowboy, right now.

What adamn shame. To make it through all he had and be taken down by something as trivial as a cyst. That freaking sucks. I hope he pulls through.

That's terrible. It seemed to suddenly come from nowhere. I can't imagine how Shawn Springs is feeling. It puts into perspective how important things really are.

I will be praying for the Springs family.

Re: Ron Springs in coma

You guys have no idea how close to home this story hits me. My mom suffered from kidney failure. After years of dialysis treatment she received a kidney transplant only to have it reject and return back to dialysis. A year or two later she received a second transplant, which she lived with for well over 20 years. To this date, I personally don't know of anyone having survived with a kidney for that long.

A few years ago, she, like Mr. Springs, fell into a coma unrelated to the actual transplant and passed a few days after I returned home from the west coast. My heart really, really goes out the Springs family.

I'll be praying for them. The suffering of a loved one in a coma cannot be expressed in words.

Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel is actually scheduled to air a piece on Springs and Everson Walls this coming Tuesday.

I wonder what they'll do now? Will they scrap the piece, or update it.

Overall, just a terrible situation

Re: Ron Springs in coma

There's really no way to imagine the heartbreak that one goes through during this process.

My father passed away in a similar fashion about 10 years ago, and it's devastating to a family to have to sit bedside and just sort of wait it out. It's almost as if you want to expidite the process to end the suffering, but all you can do is wait and pray.

All my thoughts and prayers go out to the Springs' family, and all families that have to experience the pain that is associated with any/all forms of trauma like this.

My best goes out to the Springs family, as well as anyone else that has been in a similar situation. There aren't any words to describe what his family are going through right now. I just really hope that they will be able to pull through this tough time together.

Re: Ron Springs in coma

Hey I have a question, so I figure I would post it here. This is going to come out wrong most likley, but I'm turning 22 next week and I'm lucky enough to not have lost any family members yet, so I dont really know how this works...but with that article coming out a couple of weeks ago saying that Ron had "no hope for survival", do they keep him alive until the family decides to end it, or is that the doctors call so that maybe they see something good coming along or something? I'm just really confused about how they could say he had no hope for survival nearly 3 weeks ago, and he's still alive....

Again I am hoping for the best, I really just dont know how this works.

Thanks.

I don't really know what they mean by 'no chance of survival' either. I have heard that doctors have said best-case condition probably is a "vegetable" state.
This week certainly has to be extremely hard for the family considering its Thanksgiving and Ron Springs used to play ever Thanksgiving as a Cowboy and now Shawn can't even communicate with him. I can't imagine how difficult it is and has been for their family.
