MNF lovefest for the Patriots

Anyone catch that last night? I honestly have never seen so much coverage dedicated to a team NOT playing in the actual game.

I have to agree with you guys on this, but thats what you get when you put a media person instead of a football guy in the booth, But don't blame the pats for the media hype they don't even pay attention to it.

Believe me I'm not blaming the Pats. Some of us have had a beef with MNF since ESPN took it over, this is just my latest gripe.

The best broadcast that mnf has had since espn has taken it over was the second game of opening weekend last year. with jaws and vermeil were the color guys. Jaws is actually pretty good in the booth ,but I think he tries to kiss up to kornhole too much. If they wanted to put one of the pti guys in the booth they should have used Wilbon.

Re: MNF lovefest for the Patriots

I can't even watch MNF anymore its as if they are why people tune in and not to see the game. It started with our game against the Eagles and the Charles Barkley interview (if that's what you want to call it) for the entire third quarter. "By the way the Redskins called a time out". So I guess they did it again last night but this time talking about the Pats.

I've been pretty turned off by them for a while now. I remember you used to get pscyched about MNF no matter who was playing. Now, if it's not the Skins, I'm pretty indifferent about it all.

I cut it on and there's Hank Jr. and I start to get pumped up for some football then they go to these three guys and I turn the channel.

That's been ESPN's theme for a couple years now. Apparently the personalities are more important than the sports they're covering. See Stu's Spoken Word segment....

Kornheiser's okay...

Wilbon is usually just too serious

Yeah....and what made it worse ....on Sports Center this morning it was the same shit. Sad thing was...they were already looking ahead two weeks to the freakin' Colts game. Totally overlooking us. :madani: At least acknowledge that we are playing them this week.

I'm sure the pats don't pay any attention, when do they have time? brady is too busy posing for GQ, impregnating various model (this is me just being jealous) and selling cologne/clothing, while the rest of the organization is buried knee deep in video tapes...

And it wasn't just a Patriots lovefest. I came away from the game thinking that Jaws would marry Bob Sanders if he was a chick.

MNF was ruined when Madden and Michaels left. Just get rid of the entertainers, and hire some people with football knowledge! I agree Wilbon would have been a much better choice than Kornhole.

This is indicative of a bigger trend at ESPN: moving away from sports, and towards crappy entertainment shows with sports drink commercials. Ugh.

I'm actually glad that I don't get ESPN anymore. It kinda sucks you in, and you realize it's crap, but you can't stop watching.

I'm glad they are already looking forward to the Indy-Pats matchup...please let them overlook us, thats the only way we are going to have a chance. I wouldn't mind if we got daily coverage/interviews of pats players and coaches of how they are going to gameplan for indy. Anything to take their mind off of us.

I agree with everyone's hate of the media hype. It's been TERRIBLE this season. I almost want some sort of Vicklike or TOian distraction just so that i don't have to hear about the Pats and Cowboys.

As far as MNF goes, somewhere along the line they decided that they were going to reach out to a new fanbase (the not-so-hardcore fans) and bring in those ratings. This was before ESPN took over IMO (Dennis Miller). I guess the logic isn't so bad b/c its not like us hardcore fans are gonna stop watching. At worst we will mute it or just not pay attention to the commentary. What I want to know is, is the booth banter actually working to bring in those casual fans? I think the NFL is trying to branch out to more markets under Goodell than ever before...case in point the new "Be a Woman, Be a Fan" campaign. I don't think the NFL needs more of a stranglehold but as long as it doesn't affect the actual play on the field it doesnt really bother me.

The one thing I did notice is how they brought up the NFC east and there highlights in the fastest 3 minutes segmant and didnt include the Redskins, what was that all about

It was in there, they showed Rackers missing the kick.

I'd be happy with some announcers that would just shut up!

It's getting to the point where I can't even listen to that garbage anymore. Yes they were all over the Pats, but they brought in Russell Crowe and he was talking about rugby. Just awful.

The solution is to swallow their pride and bring back Mike Patric and Joe Theismann and Paul McGuire. I actually liked that team.

There is also that Tony Gonzales commercial from I think a year ago, trying to bring in the Hispanic population. The fact is the NFL's demographic is going to become a minority, if they don't expand their market to other countries, and try to get other demographics interested they will become the NHL in 50 years.

There's football on Monday's? just kidding. I can't get into it. I used to love MNF but like everyone else since ESPN took over I can't. I watched the night the Redskins played and was turned off. I would have liked to have listened to the radio but it was a few seconds behind. I can tell you I have not watched it since. I may turn to it to get a score then I'm gone. Funny how I became interested in watching "Dancing with the Stars." lol. MNF fell just like Marie Osmond.lol.BANG.
