Redskins v Patriots predictions
It's Wednesday, so it must be prediction time.
I have to be honest and say I am absolutely dreading this game. I love our defense, and we've all seen it a million times where a dominant offense gets shut down by a dominant defense. Can the Skins shock the world? Sure, why not? Stranger things have happened, right? With the Colts on the horizon the Patriots could get caught looking ahead and really who could blame them if that happened? But as we all know Belichick is great at keeping his team focused and they rarely ever have a letdown game. Alright here, goes. Kool-Aid drinking aside, I don't like our odds in this one. I've been saying all week that it's going to take our best effort of the season, and the Pats to have an off day in order to win. Our offense has been struggling lately and if Rabach is out again I really don't like our chances to keep up with the Pats. It pains me to say this, and I would love to be proven wrong, but the Pats win this one. I think our defense will keep it close, but if our offense can't sustain drives and keep the Patriots' 'O' off the field eventually our 'D' will break. If that's the case I see a close game until late when the Patriots pull away. Patriots 30 Redskins 17 |

Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
I'm leaving my 19-14 up as my title because I think it's a realistic possibility. I don't think we can win a shoot out.
I have faith that our defense can shut down a lot of what NE tries to do, but not all of it. Tom Brady is a great player having an insane year, and while I feel he will struggle at times this week, the Pats offense will move the ball and score on long drives. The offense will score some points, and this will be competitive well into the 4th Quarter, but NE puts it away then. 28-20 Patriots. |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
The Skins have improved from last year but this game will show just how far they have to go to be an elite team. This defeat will be total.

Matty - I like your post.
Bellichicken and the Pats remember and respect Gregg Williams from his years with the Bills and having to play them twice a year. They know our scheme. Our defense will keep us in it for a while. I kind of see going the Pats-Dallas game. The Pats will pull away some point in the second or third quarter. 35-13 |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
Well, I'll say this....I think this will be no walk in the park for New England. I really dont. This will be a nationally televised game on Sunday, we have one of the best defenses in the NFL, and I really think were going to have a pretty good offensive output this week, because quite frankly we dont have a choice but to really open things up and I really think that NFL or NOT, this team has the charachter where they will really bring an elevated game against the Patroits. I think the lack of respect the Redskins have been getting will have them come out swinging and really shock the Pats for a little bit, and be their toughest test to date.....
That being said....I really just don't see it. They really are that good, Bellicheck is really that good of a coach where these guys just dont have a letdown. Their ability to stay focused impresses me more than anything else about this team. I think we have the talent across the board to really match up with them, but being realistic... I'll go New England 31 Washington 20.... EHH SCREW IT REDSKINS 50 PATROITS 0!!!! |

Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
I guess I've stated my position in the other thread. In fact, I gave 5 reasons. But the last reason is the reason I feel most strongly about. The Skins just have a knack for turning conventionaal wisdom upside down.
I have a feeling Cambell will pass 5 or 6 times on the opening drive. And our defense will get a victory within the victory by keeping N.E. out of the end zone on their opening drive. This will set the tone. I'm actually calling for a low scoring game. Skins 24 - Pats 17. Take it to the bank. |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
If the Pats are an elite team, they are going to have to prove that they can win in multiple ways. If we don't score a lot, we still could win this one. We could still lose a close low scoring game also, but I would be shocked if NE put up of more than 30 on us.

Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
I'm not dreading this game at all...basically we have nothing to lose and that kinda excites me. Nothing feels better than proving people wrong and if we lose while taking our best shot id be satisfied with that. Maybe i've been drinking a little too much of the kool-aid, but I'm geared up for an upset. Can't wait for Sunday.

Redskins 16 I can see our defense limiting them, at least compared to how they've been playing against other teams. But I just can't see us winning. It's Tom Brady, people. |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
We've beaten Brady and Belichick before, and we'll do it again. New England is first in third down defense, we're second. Here's why we drafted LaRon Landry, the kid can hit.

We muck up the game, keep Sean Taylor deep to keep Moss in check, and make the other guys pay for going over the middle. We've got nothing to lose, and I think this is the week that Santana Moss and Clinton Portis show why they make the big bucks. The run starts now fellas. Thanks for the Kool Aid Matty... |

Pats 24 How? I don't know. It came to me in a dream. |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
I do believe it's realistic to say that this will be a tough game. We have an advantage in that they play the colts next week, but they have the advantage of being at home.
ON second thought, home field advantage might add to their over confidence. I like our chances. I think Saunders & Gibbs are ready to do whatever it takes to get the o rolling. I know the odds are against that given our shoddy line, but if we come out passing I think we can move it. Campbell will have a nice day, make big plays when needed. The D will get a crucial pick in the end zone or red zone, and we'll give up some yards but not a lot of points. Skins 24 Pats 21 Pats remain winless against us for 36 years! |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
Redskins control the clock, establish the running game, and force turnovers on defense.

|
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
I think the Skins defense will keep it close through halftime, and within striking distance of the offense.
But too many 3 and out's will keep the Skins "D" on the field way too long and they will tire down the stretch, allowing the Patriots to pull away. Patriots - 32 Redskins - 13 Belichick has shown in more than one game that he will run up the score late in the 4th quarter. Anything less than a 14 point lead and he will drive down the field and not sit on the ball. He has become the king of the ef-you touchdowns. Ala Miami and Dallas |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
We'll hold them under 30. Whether our WRs show up or not could determine how many we score.
|
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
Skins - 19
Pats - 17 this will propel us up to about the 5th spot, the league will be shocked and this game will be talked about alway to the superbowl, with this win, we will finish the season tied with Giants 11-5, and Dallas will be a wildcard, Jason Campbell will put together some great 3rd Down drives...... we will trail until the 4th until we start to get the breaks we missed against the packs and giants......our running game will be better than soild, with Ben Watson out and no Sammy Morris aling.....we will come up big on D... this will probably cost us a big player on defense (injury for 3 weeks), but for this to work, we need Marcus Washington and Casey Rabach |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
I really like how our D matches up against the Pats on many levels, but unfortunately our O doesn't match well with their D. We will have too many 3 and outs to compete and the Pats will eventually pull away late 3rd qtr with 2 second half td's.

Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
I just want to say that even with a loss this season is far from over with. We should be able to bounce back the following week against the Jets and we'll be sitting at 5-3.
I still see 10 wins as being very achievable, that would only require us to go 6-4 the rest of the way including this weekend. So let's not get too crazy and slit our wrists with the world is ending threads after this game, alright? |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
Haha, you know its gonna happen. Especially if we happen to get blown off the field. Keep an even keel fellas!
|
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
We;re gonna hear it no matter what. If we lose big; Gibbs didn't have us prepared enough. If we lose by a little; it was bad play calling.
If we win by a little; then we let them off the hook. If we, god forbid, win by a lot; then it was because the Pats laid down and overlooked us. |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
No reason we can't win 11 regardless of the outcome of this game.
I had the Jets game marked down as a loss at the beginning of the season. Well...the Jets' D sucks, and Kellen Clemens very well could get his second start against us. I think we will win that one now. I had the Philly game marked down as a loss at the beginning of the year. They can't really throw the ball. I think we will win that one now. I had the Giants game in week 15 marked down as a loss. Well, that team is peaking right now, and could be had in the meadowlands in December. This was supposed to be the hardest part of our schedule right here and the next three games don't really look to be all that challenging. Now the hardest part of out schedule seems to be having Dallas and Tampa on the road back to back. And if we can win ONE of those, we are on pace for 11. |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
Someone mentioned the Redskins defying reality. History is best qualified to give the answer to my prediction. The Redskins have upset team after team after team when they are clearly the underdogs. The Cowboys,Saints, Panthers and Jaguars last year. Eagles and Lions this year. This game against the Patriots will be culmination of what can happen when a solid defense and efficient offense meet a "can do no wrong" Superbowl favorite. This game makes for a photo finish that only Ali vs. Frazier can compare. Skins 31, Patriots 17 and I'm putting my money behind my team.

Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
Pats 31
Skins 17. Even though that seems like a lot, we'll still be covering the spread. |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
Something has to give. Either the Patriots offense lets down and can't score, or the Skins defense lets down and the flood gates open. We all know the Skins have the 3rd ranked Defense in the NFL, but the Pats are sitting pretty at 10. Their offense is the best in the NFL right now. However, the wild card in all of this is the Skins offense. We know they are capable of moving the ball very well (Lions game), but they are also capable of crapping the bed (Cards game).
If Saunders can get the offense to perform on all cylinders, they have a fighting chance. Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to click all at once this week. Patriots 31 Redskins 12 |

Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
Game remains close, 20-13 Pats, into the fourth quarter. Pats score another TD mid-way in the 4th to go up two scores. Skins offense is unable to mount any response. The only way the Skins will win the game, I think, is if they sell out to get to Brady (and are actually able to get there). If the Skins hang back in coverage as they have the past couple of weeks I think Welker and Watson will expose the middle of the defense. Until the o-line gets right I just can't see the offense doing a whole lot against any good defense.
My real hope is that the Skins find a way to win and everyone who said they would becomes completely annoying starting multiple threads about how they knew this would happen all along, etc. If they lose and the offense struggles again I think it could get pretty brutal in here. |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
Skins play most of the entire 1st half in a Jumbo package that will have Sellers at RB lorenzo Alexander at FB Pucillo as H-back and Heyer as the TE with Cooley split out and we will run it down their throat! Thats how we get the run game going!!! I was making that up as i went along but now it doesnt sound too bad (well maybe for short yardage)
But for real... were gonna air it out and see some of that wide-open AL Saunders offense to keep that Pats D off balance Skins loose a squeeker on a last second feild goal 38-35 in a horribly officiated game (in that Pats favor of course) I predict 4 PI penalty w/ all leading to TDs and a bs. personal foul on ST that puts them in feild goal range at the end |
Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
I read Watson isn't playing this week. Is that true?

Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions
Nobody has an answer for the Pats. While the Skins are bordering on what I'd like to consider an almost lights out defense (Hey. I'm a homer for the defense) Their offense is hanging on it's last leg. So unfortunately the Skins aren't gonna be the ones to find that answer.

No Ben Watson, No Laurence Maroney (I think). Redskins go up early and shock the Pats. We become the first team in intercetp Tom Brady more than once in this game and we are constantly in his face.

Re: Redskins v Patriots predictions

Patriots 20 The redskins defensive front four have a big game and are the difference makers. The redskins D will force at least 2 turnovers, which is also key. The redskins D will play pass all day, which is something they are used to at this point. Another unit that have been solid all year and will come to play is special teams. The redskins keys to offense will depend on the ability to run the ball and getting first downs. The passing game needs to set up the run. Running the ball effectively and getting first downs will allow the redskins to set the pace and rhythm of the game. |

Skins 13
Look just because your team cannot stop anyone from scoring doesnt mean we cant, Im not going to to predict that we win or that we lose, but Washingtons defense is way better than the cowboys, and thats being nice. Everyone else can buy into the "bradys the greatest QB ever talk" I refuse, Washington has always played low scoring games, always, no matter who the opponent is. |
