should we try and sign Grady Jackson?

I'm surprised this thread wasnt started already, according to espn jackson has been released, and I know we need more help on the off line then the def line, but i dont see any good off lineman being released. The dude is old{35} but he has more tackles than anybody on our def line except for Carter,Carter has 25,Griffin has 19,nobody else has more than 10,Jackson has 21,I dont know why Atl released him,but I think he could add something to our def

I think we have decent depth on the D-Line. I'd rather develop some of the guys we already have.

Not unless he can play offensive line.

Re: should we try and sign Grady Jackson?

No for a multitude of reasons, not least of which is the fact that I suspect his release in Atlanta was not because he was playing so great and they just couldn't stand it. Weight, attitude, performance, age, some combination of those and other factors. I'm gonna say weight might have played a role. Check out the photo of this guy. I know he is a DT and a run-stuffer who takes up space, but this guy makes Tony Siragusa look svelte. He needs to go on the Biggest Loser not on the Skins roster.

Re: should we try and sign Grady Jackson?

We have one of the top defenses in the league, so no. Although from what I understand him being cut had nothing to do with his play, which is still very high level.

Don't mess with the defense.

Look for some OL players for now.

We don't need a 35 year old fatass.

Let me be the first to chime in with the inevitable, "Let's sign him to the vet minimum, whats the worst that could happen?".

Seriously though, our DLine is much improved this year. They don't need to make as many tackles thanks to our excellent LB play. They just need to fill gaps and try to bring pressure from the ends. I don't think we need help.

The best thing about this thread; the first line. Surprised it wasn't started already.

That's a sign of progress here, we're not jumping to start threads about every quasi big name player available, and then once one is started eveybody says NO!

I'll follow the trend here & say no as well.

Re: should we try and sign Grady Jackson?

I will disagree.
Our defense is solid against passing teams...but I am not so confident in their running defense. Yes, the Dline has been good so far in the middle....but for depth, Grady Jackson would be solid. In fact, a rotation for him would keep him fresh.

I say add him if we dont have to ditch anyone on the d line...perhaps cut a WR, we have too many.

We've actually been better vs the run (4th overall in the NFL) than vs. the pass (8th in the NFL).

I like our young defensive tackles Montgomery and Golston. Don't muke it up by bringing in some old, out of shape and overpaid player that not going to address a need.
We've actually been better vs the run (4th overall in the NFL) than vs. the pass (8th in the NFL).
Not per play.

We're #2 against the pass, and #4 against the run when you divide the total yardage by the attempts.

I think having a two possession lead at half in 5 out of our 6 games has a lot to do with that.

To me, Kedric Golston should only be a starter on a poor mans team, so I would look at the possibility of drafting or bringing in a very good DT over the next two years.

The DT situation is not nearly as dire as I originally thought. Neither is the DE situation, although I think teams are going to start exposing both Daniels and Carter in the running game soon.

like I said,I dont know the reasons,if it was for a bad attitude I guess pass, but being on the falcons could give you a bad attitude,he's an upgrade to what we have now and I'm for anybody{within reason} that can help our team out

It's easy to be ranked high in the running game when you are playing passing teams like Detroit, Philly, GB, etc.
I am impressed with our pass D....but just like in the offseason, I am still not sold on our Dline against the run yet.

Yes, Grady is older but if we lose a Dlineman, do we live with Golston again?
I just dont know.

I really don't think he's an upgrade to anyone we have now.

Maybe something cap friendl like a 5 years deal starting around vet min. with performance bounuses making it worth 1.5 mil the first year. years 2-5 maybe a mil each year. We could use some bulk in the middle.

I'd take back big Joe in a heartbeat over blubber-butt Grady Jackson. I just don't see where Jackson would fill a pressing need.

He's 35, 350+lbs, a bad locker room guy, and his contract is too big. NO.

Looks like Stroud could be facing a 4 game suspension for steroid abuse. So that explains the Grady signing I suppose
