Manning vs. Brady

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of hearing ESPN pumping this debate of which QB is better??

My question is, has ESPN manufactured this "issue", or are fans out there really debating this as hotly as ESPN would like us to believe.

Re: Manning vs. Brady

I think while the debate is valid, probably more so now, it's definitely an attempt by ESPN to make a story. Can you imagine what it's going to be like on T.V. in two weeks when they actually play.

Get used to it... it's been going on for years.. and it'll be going on until after they retire as well.

Yeah I get that, my question is though as fans are we debating this topic or is this something that the media loves to focus on??

The game is going to have Super Bowl hype, no doubt.

I didn't know Pats and Colts are playing this weekend. If we can gauge ESPN's NLF coverage quality by Monday Night Football then we can presume ESPN is partly made of shit.

Re: Manning vs. Brady

We wouldn't be complaining about any media coverage if one of the QBs involved was a Redskin.

I'm really not complaining, I just thought it was interesting when Phil Simms was on Mike & Mike yesterday and he seemed to think that this wasn't an issue that mattered much to the fans, and it was something that mattered more to the media.

only on colts and pats boards. In 03 and 04 everyone was picking Brady and 05, 06 everyone was picking Manning. All I know is colts wouldn't trade their guy and neither would the pats. But there are 30 other teams who would be ecstatic with either one

I think it does matter much more to the media than to the fans. I think this is because the media has to fill up their air time with something so they create these faux controversies/issues to fill the void.

Re: Manning vs. Brady

With all the hype between the Colts and the Patriots, it seems fitting that one of them would lose this week.

And lets face it, that's not going to be Indy.

They both may win, but how fitting would it be if we could ruin everything the media ever wanted, AND some when we cut the Cowboys' lead to a game.

Fans always care about rankings and lists though. More so for their teams than individual players. But still, plenty of fans like to hear/see/read where their favorite team/player is ranked. Except for when it's lower than they'd like and then the lists are bogus.

Re: Manning vs. Brady

I dunno, I just don't see fans sitting around debating this as much as ESPN does.

I think the majority of fans are smart enough to know that both guys are exceptional, and you really couldn't go wrong with either one.

I think it's mainly the media that is obsessed with rankings and lists and these "who's better" debates. And they do generate buzz and discussion, so that in that respect the media is just doing their job.

Re: Manning vs. Brady

This is them trying to make something interesting, into a world changing topic. They are both good QB's, but I have a question. Take Brady and give him to the Dolphins, and take Payton and give him to the Rams. Do they have a high caliber team in a year? Probably not. The talent level surrounding both QB's are extremely high.

I think they are both great, but yeah at the same time the talent/coaching around them only enhances their performance.

I think it was Simms yesterday that said there's a reason why you don't see a QB with great numbers on a bad team.

Perhaps. But it's not the media on our fansite that's creating threads such as these:

http://www.redskinswarpath.com/locker-room/15347-brady-or-manning.html

Fans like to talk about this stuff. More so, as I said, when it involves their own team/players. Also, rankings/lists are not exclusive to ESPN

Re: Brady-Manning, I never understood why it made sense to debate something like that. Now that Brady is finally putting together a season that even Manning was never able to accomplish before, you'd think that the debate would even be stronger among fans. I think fans are just tired of it. They want to know either: where these guys rank among the all time greats, or if anyone else deserves to be thrown into the same category.

The debate is still stupid, but for very different reasons now than before. Still, if you are paid analyst, people want to know your opinion on this to see where you stand.

Is it wrong that when I first read the thread title I got all excited to read some arguments about which QB was better?

I was kind of disappointed when I actually read it. And now I feel like Matty doesn't want me here.

Not saying we can't discuss it.

For the record I'd take Manning if I was starting a franchise. Not to take anything away from Brady, I think they are both 1 and 1a as far as the top QBs in the game go. They are the modern day Marino and Montana, and perhaps in time they will both prove to be better than those two, who knows.

IT matters to Tony Korny, he needs material for his articles.....and the answer has always been Brady.....3 rings

Re: Manning vs. Brady

I have had arguments about this before with my friends. My only argument is that Manning is not better than Brady. That doesn't mean Brady is better than Manning. I hesitate to say they are equivalent, because I don't think any players are equivalent. I think Manning is better at reading defenses and game day preparation, while Brady has more pocket presence. I also think Manning is generally more intelligent than Brady, but that's just a hunch 'cause I don't know either one personally.

So, I think this is a topic of interest among fans, but not as much as the media would like you to believe.

Brady dates hotter chicks, so +1 for him.

He's also a douchebag, so -2.

Does anyone have an explanation for how Brady can be such a great QB, and yet still seem like such a piece of shit?

That's a good question. Manning does all the endorsements, and Brady generally keeps his mouth shut and stays out of the lime-light. However, for some reason he seems like an arrogant prick and Manning seems like a great guy. It is bewildering.

Good point.....I think it's because of his hair, and cause he doesnt ever fail....while manning does
