Jason Campbell Future Pro Bowl QB
 

Jason had a great game ended up 23/34 215 yards 3 TD's (With a few drops & a questionable call) I was very impressed with his accuracy on the evening. I believe if he continues to throw the ball like he did today & we eliminate the dropped balls he will be a pro bowl QB. We have the pieces to be a great team but we need to build the offense around Campbell.

I agree that Campbell will be a true gem for this franchise for many years. The gameplan finally allowed him to stretch the field which really opened up the running game. The numbers would have looked even better had Randle El and McCardell not dropped passes downfield. I credit Gibbs for having the forsight to trade up into the first round to snag Campbell. That one move will be the most significant of Gibbs second era.

Great move on the Redskins part to get him I am a Auburn Tigers fan as well he was awesome in college but was always overlooked. How many QB lead there college teams to a 13-0 season and also change offensive coordinators for all four years.

I dont know about that. Until Campbell can get the football into the endzone as easily as he gets us near it, or at least more often, he will be overlooked by many people.

JC was outstanding today. We are going to have to start leaning on him more and more with all these injuries. Now lets keep giving him more of the playbook.

The big thing they were talking about post-game was his no-huddle play during the game (not the last series only). I didn't notice it so much, but lots of that stuff where the offense began to flow WAS CALLED BY JC! He reads the D and makes the call at the line--worked great, and for the run as well. That is very encouraging, and I really want to go back and look at the film to watch it more closely. A good sign that JC is getting more trust and responsibility in the offense.

(Just in time for the D to collapse! ugh! )

Calling his own plays in two-minute, and no-huddle situations has been going on since at least the Lions game (per an interview I heard Lloyd give). Campbell was solid, but damn those fumbles...

Campbell has Tom Brady like numbers in the red zone this season. Somewhere around a 115 QB rating. It's not his fault that the coaches called a run on 3rd and goal from the seven yard line.

According the Mike Wise article, they really took the reins off him today. Called a lot of his own plays. He looked great. But those stinkin fumbles.

he played well today, im glad to see it. Fianlly the coaches let him throw the ball downfield. wish they would have let him throw it in the endzone instead of calling the damn draw play for our last FG

I think JC looked pretty good and I still don't understand why the team called a running play on 3rd down and goal in the fourth quarter when we really needed a TD. Give JC a chance to throw and have a 4th TD, he looked very accurate and confident.

After watching that game with my dad we both agree that JC has come a long way in a very short time. I would love to see the leash get loosened or taken off very soon because when we let him throw it down field it was a thing of beauty.

Definately. JC showed me something yesterday. He can't throw for a td when a run is called.

Not calling you out specifically, but I do find it a bit hilarious when last week, the majority of the board was grumbling about JC's development, and questioning whether we made the right choice to draft him.

I'm sure Campbell wishes he had Brady's receivers, O-line, and overall offensive continuity, too.

This kid is doing great with what he's being given to work with. I hate to belabor the obvious, but Peyton Manning looked like horrible last night; even the great QB's can't make miracles happen *every* week.

I don't believe I was one of those people. I'm not going to lie though I did have my doubts a couple times about him, but I can quickly erase them by just reminding myself of how young he is.

When given the chance to make plays downfield, he has rarely made bad reads. I see a young QB making very nice progress, and I'm confident that he will be among the top 5-6 QBs in another year or two.

The biggest problem with Jason Campbell right now is that he tightens up at the end of games. Don't get me wrong, I think he is THE qb for the team - but great qbs take the games at the end. Until he gets pass this, he cannot lead the team to championship games. The team will follow his lead; if the team doesn't trust him at the end of games - the team will also not play well at the end of the games.

I am a big fan of Jason Campbell, but I just want to see him get better and improve. Part of it is trying to prepare for these game-ending situations in practice and the other part is Campbell's will to win at the end.

Precisely. Just think of how much more JC could do [B][I]IF[/I][/B] he had his starting O-line and [B][I]IF[/I][/B] he had a healthy group of receivers. JC, and a few others, are actually the true bright spots for the Redskins and I see great things from him.

I think the vast majority of posters (myself included) have been very pleased with JC's development and have wanted the coaching staff to put the ball in his hands more often. I must admit though, my faith in him was a little shaken by the last few games (save yesterday's game). I don't mean to say I had given up on the guy by any means, but he had a rough patch there.

I told my friend last night that if you replaced Brady with Campbell he could do everything Brady does. Peyton too. I bet money.

Campbell made some outstanding throws to give us a chance at the goal line against the Giants. He also made a great throw that McCardell bobbled that might have jumpstarted a winning drive against Philly. His TD throw to Cooley at the end of the half of the first Philly game was suberb. He converted a HUGE third down to Cooley while facing a blitz in OT vs. Miami. There are definite examples where Campbell has produced at crunch time. I wouldn't call myself part of the Kool-aid crowd, but I'm drinking whatever is being served when it comes to Campbell.

Which QBs would better the Skins offense right now?

Using FO's [URL="http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/qb.php"]DVOA ratings[/URL] as my guide, I decided to take a list of all QBs who have better stats than Campbell, and list them, then subjectively adjusting it for his lack of oppertunities, and comparing him to where we'd all thought he'd be at this point.

Players ordered by DVOA (QB rating in parenthesis):

[B]Why does DVOA differ from QB rating so much?[/B]Touchdowns, basically. This is most applicable in the case of Roethlisberger and Manning this year. QB rating rewards QBs with 100% of the credit for all passing TDs, where as DVOA gives a fraction of the credit depending on the length of the pass. A first and goal TD pass off play action from the one is worth the same as a 4th down TD pass from midfield for QB rating, but have very different values for DVOA (and...in reality).

I'm removing two guys from this list--one is irrelivant due to season ending injury, and the other is the 2nd Texans QB with a higher rank than Campbell. With them, Campbell ranks 19th, coincidently exactly where QB rating has him.

I'm also projecting Campbell to move ahead of McNabb and Harrington, while staying ahead of Kitna. My reasoning for this is that McNabb has never been particularly statstically impressive, and Harrington is a historically bad QB having an aberration year. So eliminating 2 guys from this list and sliding JC up two spots leads me to rank him as the 15th best QB in the league, behind:

Just an aside, the notion that Jon Kitna is actually good is evidence of one of the biggest flaws of QB rating. Jon Kitna is average, at best, and makes critical and inexcusable mistakes at times (see: Rogers' pick six).

Campbell is great QB I wouldn't want to have anybody else at QB. He can run when it wants to and has a hell of a arm.
