Gibbs Perfect Coach For Taylor Situation

I'm having a really tough time right now, and I really don't want to talk about football, per se. But I think as it relates to the mood of the team and trying to keep everyone together, there isn't another coach I would rather have right now other than Joe Gibbs.

I think he'll strike a perfect balance between keeping the proper perspective, giving players room to mourn over Taylor's death and the game of football itself.

I can say with 100% certainty that I'm glad Joe Gibbs is our coach right now.

I'll agree with you on it. I'm sure Coach is more than torn up about the situation, and Gibbs being the spiritual man that he is will provide the support and guidance to the team. There is no way to counter something like this, except with time.

I really believe Gibbs came back for a reason. Perhaps this is that reason.

yeah, this is the right staff to see our guys through this.

Remember, Taylor was Gibbs first pick during his second stint. So this is affecting him on so many levels. Things really have come full circle with him and Sean Taylor.

Taylor began his NFL career because of and with Joe Gibbs, and it had a tragic ending under Gibbs.

Without a doubt. We'll need leadership and compassion and Gibbs is the man for it. I know football is a petty thing to be thinking about but this is a situation that can bring this team together and give us something to be proud of. Maybe not winning a bunch of games but playing their guts out and putting forth the prideful effort, an undying commtment to honoring our fallen hero is what this calls for. I know that there is no coach I would rather be in charge at this point. No one even close. Maybe Matty is right. Maybe God's plan for this team and its fans was for Gibbs to lead us through adversity never imagined. Well here we are. I don't like it but we're about to go on a ride that none of us ever wanted to. In the end though something good can come from this.

I agree with you and Matty. I can't think of anybody else better suited for this situation than Joe Gibbs. I seem to remember someone having a quote from Gibbs in their sig that said, "We are on a mission from God." No truer words may have been spoken.

Well there is no doubt in my mind now that Gibbs will return now next year to lead this franchise.

The Redskins need Gibbs more than ever now, but I've never wanted him less (if that makes any sense)

I certainly agree with the thread title. Gibbs and Co have already created a family-like atmosphere, no that in itself should help the players cope. He'll lead them, and they'll follow, but I just don't know how we can play a game this weekend.

I hope this isn't the reason by any means. The saddest day in Redskin history. But he is the VERY BEST at the helm at this sad time or any other.

The reason he really came back will happen next year.

I don't think anyone questions the loyalty and respect the players feel for Coach. Whether he is the best coach today is a topic for another day. For today, I'm grateful that we have Coach Joe to lead this team.

As a man who has recently found his faith and that God puts us in situations HE needs us to be in at times. I belive you are right. There is no other coach who I would rather have right now, and to expound on this I do not think Joe will be leaving any time soon. He needs to be with this team. They are his guys and so was Sean. My prayers are with you all.

Gibbs has never had to deal with something like this, but I can't imagine anyone that I'd prefer given the circumstances.

BTW, I heard about Rock Cartright openly weeping when he walked to the parking lot yesterday after getting the news of the shooting. Gibbs talks about "True Redskins", and I really believe that what he's talking about is the love of team and teammates that Rock openly demonstrated there. Along with Gibbs, this team needs the Rock Cartrights and the James Thrashes to help get through this dark chapter.

Well I mean we always talk about what a great man and leader Gibbs is. And I hear it all the time from people I deal with in NASCAR and with his racing team. If anyone can guide an organization through tragedy it's Gibbs. But I wish we didn't need this to remind us all of what a great man and leader Gibbs is. I wish it was just the 5-6 record we had to worry about him leading us out of.

I think what SS is saying, and yes I'm speaking on his behalf:), is that on one hand Gibbs is probably best suited to strike the balance of preparing the team for football and mourning Taylor's death, but on the other hand who wants to see Joe Gibbs work what could be his strongest trait under these circumstances?

Agree 100%. I'm not a religious person at all. Not even sure if I believe in God. But it is, at the least, strange to see someone with certain gifts put in the exact situation where those gifts are needed. Really makes you think.

I echo exactly what you said. We don't always understand, like or appreciate God's plans for us, but we put our faith in believing in Him for our lives.

To also echo what Matty said, this very well could be the reason Gibbs is back, to guide the franchise through this tough time. I was thinking about the other options when Gibbs came back, Spurrier, Dennis Green, etc. and I don't think they have the complete package of faith, respect, leadership and character that Gibbs can provide at at time like this.

Couldn't help but think that when watching Gibbs' press conference. I'm sure our next home game will be a heavy one.

As I listened to Gibbs today, I just got the feeling he is not going to come back. He started talking about life and his family and grandbabies. And you could see he was fighting back tears. He's 67 and in the latter years of his life. He's such a family man and I think after seeing this it's going to push him into wanting to spend time with his own family. And I can't blame him.

Like I've always maintained, Gibbs can do whatever he wants. And let's not forget he's going through this entire season with his 2-year old grandson battling leukemia.

Jeez, I'd forgotten about that.

This summer, My 16 yr old Daughter was mis-diagnosed with Leukemia, for 36 hours, and that was pure hell and it turned out she DIDN'T have it.

Can't imagine going through it with a 2 yr old.

And now trying to lead 50 plus guys through this.

I agree, Gibbs is the perfect guy. Snyder's an asshole but he's still a normal human, and will try to help of ST's kid/girlfirend.

First off I apologize for going off on that scumbag that slipped thru the cracks. You might not like Snyder, but he's flying the whole team for the funeral and I'm sure he'll help ST's family in some way. Coach Gibbs has been a good influence on him.

Portis and Moss could be two. ST is irreplacible.
