UPDATE: Portis Will Not Be Changing To #21
 

Chick Hernandez just reported live on Comcast that Portis will switch his number from 26 to 21 in honor of Sean. I'm all for it. They're like brothers.

Good. Lots of emotion wrapped up in that number. Portis really loves his friends, he'll wear it with love, as it should be done.

I am all for it too. Good way to pay tribute. I also think the rest of the season should be dedicated to Sean Taylor.

I like the idea. I was just saying that I would be mad if anyone ever took that number- even a player to remember him but it feels right with portis. I wonder how long he will wear it. I don't mind him wearing it for the rest of his career or just one game. Its up to him. Then retire it under sean's name

It would be cool if there was some way the whole team came out in 21. I know it could not stay like that during the game butthe offense could wear the burgundy and the Defense the home White. it would just be cool

It is a really nice gesture by Portis, and I understand that he wants to honor Sean. But I don't think the #21 should ever be worn by a Redskin again. The number really should be retired.

Great way to honor a fallen brother. He will wear that #21 with HEART & PASSION.

I'm sure Sunday that heart will be mighty heavy, for all of us at the game seeing CP wear that #21.

I agree the number 21 should be retired, but I also think that CP being so close to Taylor should finish the season as 21, in taylor's honor and memory and retire it after the season. 21 started this season and 21 will end it. I also beleive it will help the team, friends, and family with the grieving process.

Agreed. Portis should wear it through the season and then it should be retired.

Finish the year as 21. It is a great tribute. And I swear if they try to sell a Portis 21 jersey I will stop cheering for this team. Unless they contribute the proceeds to charity.

After watching the presser with Joe Gibbs & Dan Snyder on comcast, the asked about ST's #21 and if any plans for the number.

As I recieved the message there is no plan at this time for anyone to wear the #21. Other than around the league stickers on the helmets.

I guess we will have to see if CP wears ST #21 or not, or if their is some sort of number change for CP?

Portis has paid thousands of dollars in fines to wear different color socks. I don't think that Goodell could come up with a big enough sum to keep him from putting on # 21 if that's what he sets his mind to.

I think that would be a team descission, not goodell's.

The point is that if he decides to wear the jersey to honor his friend, no one is going to stop him. That's just my opinion from what I've seen of his attitude so far. I can't see team officials telling him not to wear the jersey. I hope it happens. The man deserves as much of a tribute as possible and that would be a nice way to do it.

They should all come out wearing their normal numbers but with the name plate "Taylor" on every Jersey. CP should wear the number 21 as well

It wasn't in the press conference. Chick Hernandez has been outside Redskins park all day, and he announced it live on Comcast shortly before the press conference. Whatever time I posted this thread, it was announced about 2mins before that...
