No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
This would be a pretty remarkable gesture if it actually happens.

Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
That would be cool....when we make a turnover for a score too.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
wow that would be moving.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
i like it. i think that usc did something similar with regards to their kicker who died.
i don't necessarily know what i think of the agreement w/ the bills part of it. i think you just do it. still, it's a nice gesture and we'll see what happens. |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
Great idea, I don't care if it costs us anything he will truly be missed in this defense, on this team, and in this world. This is no better way to show that.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I was thinking about this exact same thing this morning, and I was going to dedicate a thread to the idea of doing this earlier but I lost track of time. It is nice to see I wasn't the only one who thought of this, and I hope they do it because it would be a great way to honor Sean Taylor.

Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
Love it, hope it happens

Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I absolutely think that there should be a tribute, but not starting 10 men. Why not let his dad or fiance and daughter act as team captains for the coin flip? Don't announce any players before the game except for Sean Taylor. I think rigging a play goes against the competitve nature of the game that we all (including Sean)love so much.

Good points. Love the sig. |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I can only imagine how Fedex is going to be on Sunday. I bet everyone will be wearing #21. Is anyone planing to go to that game?
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
ill be there, im sure there wont be a dry eye in the place
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
i dont think they should rig it, but just play with 10 men for the first play... no matter what the bills do.
if its not a penalty I would definately do it... and maybe for the first play of every game for the rest of the season... |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I understand the intention but not really a fan of the idea. I honestly don't know the best way the Redskin can honor him this Sunday specifically. I know I'll be cheering them on as if it it will bring him back on every single play, though.

Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I think we should play with 53 men instead as a display of the solidarity within the Redskins family.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I don't get to a lot of games but I'm goin down for this one, and it would be moving. Who cares what happens on the play, it's the Bills. I am going next week for my birthday too.

We get enough stupid penalties anyway. |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I think everyone's ritual will change this weekend. Normally I get the game on DirecTV (I live in FL). Tune in to Sonny and Sam on the laptop. Get all fidgety. Pace around. Then the kickoff, and the ranting and raving and whooping starts. Wins put me on a super-high, and losses into the valley.
This week...I just don't know. I look at how I normally approach Redskins Sunday, and feel childish and shallow. Win or lose this weekend, I probably won't yell or rant, cheer or jeer. The game will have a different meaning. It will represent, not a team in competition, but a team and community healing, unifying, and remembering. Wins, losses, playoff births, 100-yard games. At the end of the day they are meaningless. Just numbers, stats, and rankings. It's the people that make the Redskins so special. Players, staff, fans. There is a unique bond here. Who remembers RFK actually moving? I recently helped coach a football clinic with former Redskins RB Ricky Claitt. He told me watching the stadium bounce freaked him out the first time he experienced it. The vets had to calm him...tell him that was normal. This weekend...a ground-swell of emotion. Each of us will handle it in our own way. And each way will be proper. As for Redskin Sundays to come; they won't be complete. 21 trolling centerfield, daring receivers to come down the seam...I'll miss that. Not because of the hits, plays, picks...but becaues he was here and now he is gone. It's that simple, I think. I never met him. But I miss him. He was part of the whole, now the whole is missing a piece. Time will fill the void, and the pain will subside. But in our hearts and memories, Sean lives. Sorry for the length and mush. Just had to get it out. |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
Im not sure if it will be televised this week in my area. Does anyone know of a webcast or something I can watch it? I cant miss this game.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I am sold on this idea as long as it is for only one ceremonial play.
Washington with 10 Defenders on the field. Snap the ball and QB takes a knee. Sean Taylor is awarded one final tackle in the NFL. Moment of silence Down and distance is reset to 1st and 10. The game resumes. Just a thought. |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I say the first official play we play with 10 people. The other team better damn well knell or run a short play. On a side note, I feel the Pats would have no problem passing in the free safeties area.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I really want to get tickets to this game.
This will by far be the most emotional athletic event I'll ever watch. I'm really hoping the Redskins win, but either way... It just would mean a lot to field a team out there that wants to play. Godspeed Redskins. You've got the support of Redskins nation right now. Everyone is grieving and empathizing for those that lost a friend, father, and teammate. |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
Hell of an idea, if it happens there will hardly be a dry eye in the place.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I remember hearing some high school team lost two of its starting defensive players and played with 9 all year... apparently their defense did pretty well too
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
Play 10 the whole game. He will be looking down on us making sure everything works out.
|

You know, I almost wish we got to play them again this week. Something tells me it would be a different looking game. |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I'll be at the game. Unfortunately I'll be teary eyed the whole game.
I think the best scenario aside from the Redskins kicking the SHIT outta the Bills is that we have a 'too many men on the field' penalty with all 53 men on the field. For 1 play. ST we miss you already! #21 for Ring of Fame! |

Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
A friend added about us in a 10 man formation...
I think it would be respectful for the Bills to take a knee on that play.
I agree |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
To be honest ST never took off a play and he would not want us to take off a play.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I think the best way to honor St would be to play the game for real (no 10 men or other stuff like that) and win it.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
It's a fitting tribute, but as it's been said before, should have kept it secret and just done it...let the Bills run what they want, and the Skins start with 10. I can't wait for Sunday...it's going to be incredible.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
Whatever they choose to do will be fine with me. How they honor him is completely up to the team.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
That would be an awesome gesture . I wonder if we could get a flyover with a missing man formation ? For those attending the game , think about painting < shoe polish > on your car window < rear window & a side > , that would be a nice thank you and good bye to a great Redskin ! We will miss # 21 running around that field on Sundays !

You are probably right. Classless coach. I could really care less about the playoffs now. It really pales in comparison.I do hope that our defense, in honor of 21 knocks the ever lovin hell out of everyone that gets in their way. If they play with the intensity of Taylor the fear of the pats will be baby shit compared to us. |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I love the idea and think we just go out with 10 and play the down straight up.
|

I agree. Who cares what Buffalo does, play 10 for one play, then fight your hearts out the rest of the game with a full squad. Does anyone else feel like Reed Doughty (and Pray-Low) will be playing significantly above their level in this one? I think anyone back there will be feeling ST's spirit during this one. |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
As I stated earlier. Sean Taylor played 100% every play in every game. He would not want us using 10 men but instead play 11 at 100% all game long.
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I know its a lil soon, but do you think the skins should move Landry to Free for the rest of the season and move Prelou/Doughty to strong?
|
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
I believe I read that initially Landry will stay put, as G-Dub likes him where he is (Unfortunately, you'll have to take this as hearsay, since I can't for the life of me remember where I read it).
However, Landry does have decent cover skills for a safety, and depending on which direction the Redskins go in the future, it could certainly happen. |
Re: No Starting Free Safety for Redskins on Sunday?
Thats a Great idea, very original too, dont think I ever saw it done before, very befitting since Im sure #21 will be watching his team come sunday-
