Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
Hey, this forum is filled with people paying their respects and remembering Sean Taylor so I think if you haven't seen this already, you'll want to.
There's a petition online that will go to Dan Snyder, and it's to retire #21. You can find it by clicking HERE AND PLEASE POST THIS LINK ANYWHERE YOU CAN THINK OF! I know Sean wasn't on the team long enough to consider being a retired jersey, but looking at all he's accomplished in such a short time, you can only imagine what he could have done in the years to come. Please help honor him, and get him to live on the football field forever [where he wanted to be]. Afterall, no one will ever wear that #21 the way he did. Sign the Petition |

Right on |
Done. I see over 500 have already signed.
Right on
My brother has grown up loving this team and Sean has been his new favorite player... he found this petition last night, so I've been trying to get the link circulating everywhere so people know it's out there and sign it. I pray the Redskin Org. will take this thought into deep* consideration. |
Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
does anyone know if this has been brought to the attention of extremeskins, hogs.net, or any of our fellow skins fan sites?
|
Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
Signed.
|
Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
Done. I have NO problem retiring the "reapers" number.
He was a true core Redskin. If any else were to wear that number, the pressure would be to great. |

I don't think so.. I don't watch much Pro; I'm more into college football.. but I liked watching Sean play and I'm doing this because my brother loved him and is a die hard Redskins fan. If you're joined to any of those forums, please please get this link out to them!! |

HAIL !!! |
Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
He wasnt great enough long enough and many other Skins that actually won super bowls and were great for many years deserve to have their numbers retired before he does. I cant support retiring someone's number on what they might have done.
Good luck with your petition. |
Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
well thanks for letting us know you don't support the idea... we were all awaiting your response with baited breath....

Good luck with your petition.
I have to echo this sentiment. I realize this is a tragedy... but I would say Art Monk, Sonny, DG, Riggo and several others would be more deserving of that honor. |

No problem. I didnt think anyone cared what I thought but obviously you were waiting to hear my opinion. Thanks. |
Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
point is, not signing the petition is stating your opinion enough... trying to spark a debate about how you don't feel a man that has just passed stands up to your standards enough to be honored by the organization he represented is unnecessary.

Thanks for the advice. |
Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
There are unfortunately special circumstances here which should be considered when evaluating whether Taylor deserves to have his number retired. Also, for those that oppose the idea would you really be offended if he did have his number retired before Monk, Green, et al?

I would not be offended but I think it would diminish the honor of retiring a number for having had a great career. ST might have had a great career but then again maybe not. Unfortunately we will never know. |

I don't think anyone should squable right now... I don't think there is anyone out there that does not think this is a total tragedy... There is more than one person who feels that ALOT of past skins deserve this honor. I think it is more appropriate that it be unofficially retired as they have done with alot of the greats of the past. |

I disagree with just about everything Irish post but this is a Redskin chat site and he stated his opinion which other people hold. I'm not sure what they should do with his number at this point but if they did retire his jersey because of what happened I have no complaints. It not fair to jump on every person who does not agree with everyway people have posted to honor Sean Taylor. |
Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
I signed, normally I would be reluctant, but due to his potential impact on the team's legacy and his recent turn towards improving his off the field life, I felt honored to reccomend the retirement.

You're right, but before I responded I went and looked through his posts and I just felt there was an antagonistic air to alot of them in the last couple of days, and took offense. Sorry for jumping on you Irish... you're as entitled as anyone to express opinons freely, and I'm a bit of an ass for trying to stop you... My personal opinion is that he was great from the moment he suited up in that first hall of fame game and impacted this team more than any other player in over a decade, and his career is complete. It may not be long enough for you, but it is a complete body of work, so when you say he MAY have had a great career, it feels like you're penalizing his work for his death, just as you seem to feel we're over glorifying his work because of his death. I do agree that there are many other redskins that deserve the honor, but Right now I cant imagine going after a signature overprice free agent a la dieon and having him don the jersey... |
Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
Keep in mind this is just a petition that someone created out of respect for ST's untimely death. As hard as it for any player to get their number retired, it is unlikely that his unfortunate short lived career will amount to enough to have it officially retired. It's just the thought of showing some love for an incredible player that could have and should have gone on to do even greater things for the Redskins.

Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
701 , would be nice to see 100,000 by Christmas . I caught some interviews with his teachers at the prep school he attended , he graduated with honors . I was also very impressed with C. Portis on his thoughts about wearing the # 21 . RIP Sean Taylor .

Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
What I really admire are the fans of other NFL teams [even Cowboys fans] that signed this petition and left heartfelt comments about Sean... that just shows that Sean was remarkable and deserves to be honored even though his career was short lived.

Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
while i'm not sure he'll get it officially retired, I do hope he goes into the ring of honor at a min.

But petitioning The Redskins is really not the way to go. The organazation will do the right thing. I highly doubt that the number will be passed out for a long time. I think the more logical thing to do would be to put him in the ring of honor. Retire the numnber? I would say probably not. Soon the team is going to run out of numbers. |

The petition actually includes a request to have him in the ring of honor. |

Umm ok? I just put the link in a thread and thought it was a nice idea. I didn't make this petition myself. And if you'd read through, I already posted a message stating that it's just a nice thought, and I know that even with a lot of signatures, it's more than likely not gonna happen. Get with it; it's just something someone's trying to do. I think the majority of people realize he won't be officially retired; they're just signing it as a little token of their respect. |
Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
Before retiring the # I would ask players that have worn that # for the Skins such as Mike Nelms for his permission who more than earn it . I'm not trying to start an argument or disrespect ST. I just think that players who played for years and wore that # should be taken into consideration. As for the ring of honor, I'm all for it put him in this weekend.

Re: Sean Taylor Retired Number Petition
Honestly, I think they should not retire his number. However I do believe that from now on they should wear a patch on their jersey's, or sticker on their helmets remembering him.(Not just for a season...but forever)
