What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
I can't dwell on this game and make excuses. I want to look forward to working towards a W versus Chicago. Obviously, we cannot turn the ball over versus the Bears. As many are crucifying Gibbs, this is our opportunity to give the keys to victory.
I am worried about the way we have been kicking off and punting. That has to improve. I cannot see the "other" Adrian Peterson running all over us, and Grossman is not going to hurt us. We have to make a commitment to running the football and run blocking. Lets sit Wade down and put Heyer in fulltime. 6 of the 7 losses happened on the last play of the game. We are close enough to win, but have not moved over the top. If we run power run between the tackles and protect the football this is a winnable game. |
Re: What is out GamePlan to Victory versus Chicago
Bottom line is we have to get the running game back on track. Some may call it boring, but you have to be able to run the ball.
|
Re: What is out GamePlan to Victory versus Chicago
Guys its no excuse but INJURES to the OLINE have killed us, again JC gets hit all the time he has no true #1 wr, when your #1 is a Tight End your not going to be that successful. Cooley is a Pro Bowler or atleast should be, but no WR's kill us Moss is a #2 at best we all know this. The D has been pretty good all year but our Offense just cant get it done! I mean come on CALDWELL AND McCardell???? Our biggest need in the draft or offseason is to get a WR period!

Re: What is out GamePlan to Victory versus Chicago
Do they even have time to install a gameplan? The funeral is Monday, the players have off on Wednesday, and so they create a gameplan and do the walk-throughs on Tuesday? I don't think there is going to be much film review for this one.

Redskins Gameplan vs Chicago
Run Clinton Portis 25 times for around 2 yards per carry and keep Ladell Betts on the sidelines. |
Redskins Gameplan vs Chicago
Run Clinton Portis 25 times for around 2 yards per carry and keep Ladell Betts on the sidelines.
I really am frustrated by this too. Portis will have 2-3 carries a game where he might break one for over 5 yards but he just isn't much of a factor. I want to see Ladell take some of the load because Portis just isn't cutting it. |
Re: What is out GamePlan to Victory versus Chicago
Play better on O and hope the D can actually make a stand and hold a team when the game is on the line.
The Skins wont win this game and they might not win another game the rest of the year. |
Re: What is out GamePlan to Victory versus Chicago
all we gotta do is kick it out of bounds and pass to wherever adam archuletta is and we will win 569-3

I agree that Ladell "I heart fumbles" Betts needs to get more carries, but lets not think that a simple change of the back is going to be a cure-all. I'm not sure if anyone happened to see our O-line, but it was pathetic today. The pass protection was pretty awful and the run-blocking was non-existent. I'm no expert, but I think that the O-linemen are supposed to drive the defenders past the line of scrimmage. They seemed to be in drop-back, pass-protection mode all day. |
Re: What is out GamePlan to Victory versus Chicago
I do agree the o-line was terrible but I think that Betts hits the line harder than Portis. I was going to say hits the hole harder but there doesen't seem to be any holes for our backs to run through. Maybe because Betts runs harder though he can make some himself.
|
Re: What is out GamePlan to Victory versus Chicago
I actually liked the running game today. So I'd stick with that. I think running is boring but today I did see how the running game opened up the PA pass. The Bills were biting on PA really bad today. So I'm hoping it could work the same way against the Bears. So, basically I think it's gonna be a run heavy game.
|
Re: What is out GamePlan to Victory versus Chicago
portis has been slamming up the middle and running stretch plays... we've only seen betts on sweeps and counters with pulling linemen blocking in front of him...
Portis is a better back. They pretty much proved that early on this season. |
Re: What is out GamePlan to Victory versus Chicago
keep the ball out of devin hester's hands.. and run some no huddle offense. If we have a lead in the second half keep throwing the ball.

Jason is still too mistake prone to put the entire offensive team on his shoulders. I would also like to see Betts get more carries when Portis is struggling at 2 YPC.

If we lose against the bears I have to wear a cowboys hat at work for a week. Go skins!

So you're saying we'll miss an extra point(81 TDs, 1 FG, one missed xp). God, you're such a hater!!! :) |
Re: What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
What hurts is JC is good for a fumble and an INT a game. Always at the most critical time. JC is another year away from being a solid QB, Lets face it. He is good but i think WE ALL expect too much from him. We are close. A true number 1 wideout and minor upgrades on the oline. On defense i have no idea. The free safety position is gonna be a nightmare because no matter who they put in there we as fans will always compare that person too Sean Taylor. Honestly i don't know how you can replace him. IMO i say we get a DE with the 1st rounder and get a WR with the second. They have won 5 games so far. Thats the same as last year and i can't see us winning another one this year. Bears in a close one. Last i seen they were taking it to the Giants.

I was hopin for a safety... lol...

Re: What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
I really think that better O-Line play / Personnel who make everything better. Granted a better D Line would make the cover two look better, a better O-line would keep the D off the field. I really am starting to believe that the coaching staff really sees how deficient the O-Line is, and is limiting the potential play calling because of this. There may not be a John Hannah out there to draft (and I probably would not draft an O-Lineman in the 1st), but somebody found Jacoby playing D Line and switched him over to O. Call Bethard and give me somebody who can Push and Protect.

The D-line definitely has not been that good recently. I know that a lot of people are high on Montgomery and Golston, and perhaps they will someday be great players, but I've never been that comfortable with either of them. Thus far, the only solid, consistent, and playmaking d-lineman on our roster has been Carter. |
Re: What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
let's see...redskins will be winning late in the 3rd quarter, jc will fumble once and throw 2 interceptions in the 4th quarter. that's his mo. as long as jc is the quarterback we will be a sub .500 team.

So what's your solution? You think we should get rid of Campbell? |
Re: What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
yes, i think cambell should be traded. he's just not getting it done. his numbers have been good, but that dosen't win games. 3 or 4 losses this year have been from jc turnovers late in the game.

Traded for whom? |
Re: What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
*sarcasm* OH YES PLEASE TRADE HIM FOR Kerry Collins or some other old relic..
I think it would be a huge mistake to trade him for anyone. I thought it was boneheaded to not give Palmers little bro some reps took You guys are screaming off with his head at 7 losses Im sorry but I don't think the panthers are screaming for vinny's head yet...We need to chill out. Trade collins or Brunell and bring in some competition for Jason, Someone great outta college or lets go get a qb thats someone can't afford anymore....Who's contract is up?... |
Re: What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
My Game Plan:
1. Run the Ball - Just Do It and Stick With It. Run plays that best benefit Portis and his ability to break free. Use a 3 WR set or 4 WR set and RUN the ball on cutbacks or just dive/gut plays up the middle. Go to Shotgun formations and RUN the ball. Give Portis a healthy 20-25 carries atleast and let Betts have some shots in there, but save him for relief. 2. Offensive Line - Dig Heels In and Go All Out. Don't let the D-Line and LBs get to the QB. Open holes to let your back pick up gainers and give the Campbell time to throw when he does. Don't commit knuckle-head penalties in key situations such as the Red Zone and DONT HOLD. ***Side note: Does Randy Thomas come back?*** 3. Red Zone Efficiency - Don't Blow It Once You're There. For Christ's sake get rid of the long drives ending ONLY with 3 points. Try some screens and toss plays outside that worked in 2005 instead of going PA or stretch/up the middle. Go run run pass or pass run pass or pass pass run (In other words get atleast 1 run in there that will benefit your field position). 4. Maintaining the Lead - If You Get It, KEEP It. Keep the clock moving, yet move down the field. Keep the defense guessing and don't be repetive with certain plays. Sure, you can run the ball all you want, but don't use the same formations over and over again that make it obvious. Finish the Game..Go for a deep one here and there to keep the defense on their heels and maybe break the game open. These past weeks, we haven't seen those shots late with the lead...try it atleast three times.. With smart Defense like we've had in the past weeks, benefited by a strong Offense using these guidelines set up by good Special Teams play, then I strongly believe the Redskins will come away with Wins instead of Big Ls. We NEED 4.. Detroit WILL FALL Arizona WILL FALL WE NEED to FINISH the Vikings and Bears, and win 2 more against Dallas/NY that would keep us even with the Saints.. Edit: 9-7 will almost certainly clinch the 2nd wild card spot... Arizona and Detroit have schedules they can't cover & if we win 4 NFC games we are more than just "mathmatically alive in the playoffs" |
Re: What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
i'm thinking a high draft pick. but i don't believe he's the future of this team. he's good inbetween the 20's but he make's poor decision's in the red zone.

There are three intelligent ways to approach this as a coach: 1) Trust your running back to hit the hole quickly to negate the backside blocker that you can't account for. 2) Get a new back who might be more successful at this than the first option. 3) Stop running the football. Today, we tried option one until we were blue in the face. Portis just isn't good enough to succeed at that. I don't think too many RBs are good enough. Off the top of my head, Adrian Peterson, Ronnie Brown, Marion Barber, Brian Westbrook, and Tomlinson are the guys in this league who are good enough to account for the backside defender to the point where you can leave him unblocked. Portis was good enough 4 years ago. Not now. So that leaves two options: See if Betts has the quickness to run against unblocked ends, or stop running the football against defenses who use their safeties to stop it. If we do the latter, we lose play action and pretty much have to resort to shotgun passing. Today's gameplan just didn't cut it for me. Reminded me of the game plan the Chiefs used in the playoffs against the Colts last year. No plan B. |

He did have the red zone INTs against Dallas and Tampa the next two games, but overall, I'm very bullish on Campbell. He is easily the most talented QB that Gibbs has coached here. Give him a competent running game that can help hold a lead and you'll see Campbell make a quantum leap. It really starts with the O-line IMO.

So, based on your analysis of Campbell, another team is going to give us a high draft pick? If he stinks in the redzone, why would anyone trade for him? He's good between the 20s--so that is worth what--a second round draft pick? a third? Given that the Skins have invested so much in Campbell--let's at least give him 30-40 starts before we ultimately pass judgement. And while we're at it--let's give him a few years with the same offensive coordinator. And maybe a relatively healthy O-line. And an average running game. Then we can adequately analyze Campbell before we start over with a new rookie QB... |
Re: What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
Run relentlessely and score points in the red zone.

The guy has about a season's worth of starts under his belt and has shown promise and you want to get rid of him? Just out of curiosity, what are your general thoughts about Portis and Gibbs? |
Re: What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
coach gibbs is a hall of fame coach with 3 super bowl titles. portis is fine. he rushed for over 1500 yards in 05. portis was injured in 06 and started 07 hurt. i'm not blaming everything that's gone wrong on cambell. but he's lost more games than he's won.

Look at Troy Aikmans first year as a starter. Carson Palmers as well. There are a ton of first year starters that struggle. Tom Brady's first year as a starter the Pats didn't make it back to the playoffs after winning the SB. Patience and a true Number 1 WR is what will make JC a household name. Everyone expects this team to be great overnight. |
Re: What is our game plan for victory versus Chicago
Even though he's injured, but I think we need Mike Sellers back and playing...that's our running game right there...he can block...he's a good receiver and he opens up all kinds of holes for Portis...I also think we need to bench Wade and put Heyer in as starter...it seems he doesn't do a good job on blocking...hate to say it,but I think Doughty is doing a pretty good job so far...BUT he DEFINETLY ain't no Sean Taylor...he's got BIG shoes to fill...Mcardell is getting old but he's still a great possesion receiver...we just need to get a good ground game going against Chicago and Campbell needs to be accurate and make no mistakes and try not to kick it to the dangerous Devin Hester...as a DIE HARD Redskins fan I'm not giving up but the playoff picture is going to be a tight one...GO SKINS!

Another key to winning: Scoring points in the redzone.
Taking FGs within the 20 yard line is killing us score wise. Think 7 not 3! |

Everyone is always talking about the fumbles, blah blah blah, but I mean COME ON, he's NOT AN RB and if he's running for his life because the offensive line can't block for shit, I don't lay that on him. |
