Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
I just got back from the game and I'm still soaked...and still sad. I looked for my fellow Warpath brethren, but I couldn't reach anyone. Maybe I was the one unreachable...oh well. But I tailgated with some friends, but it just didn't feel quite like a football day, you know. I was somewhere between sadness and wanting to cheer for my team.
I heard that players were actually on the field crying between plays. They had a glazed and empty stare when they were in the tunnel prior to taking the field. I honestly believe by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, they were emotionally spent. Atmosphere: First of all, the ceremony was touching and moving. There wasn't a dry eye in FedEx when they played the video tribute of Sean. They showed one of Sean's first interviews and he said the thing he looked forward to the most was playing in front of the home crowd. He said the twelth man was his inspiration. The crowd erupted right in the middle of his sentence. Towels were waving like crazy. The band also played "Hail To The Redskins" at much slower and somber cadence at mid field. Very sad. Everyone waved their #21 towels again. I was so moved to see the defense open with 10 players instead of 11 in Sean's honor. The Game: Frankly, I'm speechless. I've never, ever witnessed a more bizarre game. I'll leave the fire Gibbs, Saunders, Williams stuff out of this thread and I hope you all can respect that. But I'll say this, FedEx was very, very upset with Gibbs. Young and old. The Comcast Booth: I swung around to the Comcast booth just to get the vibe and the mood after the lost. It was really negative to say the least. People were yelling "Joe must go". Just saying some very insulting things. I had to leave, but I think people feel they are justified in feeling this way. That's pretty much it. I'll open up line two for questions.... |
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
Sean Taylor was a great football player, and he will be missed, it would have been nice to get a win out of this game in his honor, but it was not to be. Coach gibbs, and Al Saunders, should be replaced, their bone-head play calling late in the 4th quarter of majority of their games has cost the skins dearly, (A double back to back time out) GIVE ME A BREAK! The skins motto should be maybe next year!

Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
By the way... sorry I couldn't get in touch with you guys, I freaking left my phone at home (at least it wasn't the tickets this time).
I went to the bar behind 130... and it was mayhem. Looked for someone, but I really wouldn't recognize anyone. At any rate... kind of a cool game to go to. I've got some pretty nice pics and video that I'll post up later tonight. I've got a concert to attend at UMBC, and I'm literally out the door right now. Tough loss for the boys... Pretty much a microcosm (love that word) of the season right there. |

and here's just one image that I've uploaded while my gf waits out in the car to take me to the concert....
This is a picture of the 10 huddled together before the first defensive play. Many more to come.... (sorry about the high res) |

Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
To hear that the crowd was chanting fire Gibbs today, of ALL days, is really disturbing to me. Yes he made an awful mistake late in the game, but the PLAYERS did a lot of things on the field that put us in that spot to begin with. Gibbs has been trying to bring these guys together and is in the midst of a profoundly difficult task with all the injuries, Sean's passing, and 2 games and a funeral in 5 days. I'm sure he's pretty pissed about what happened, and I'm not happy with him for it, but "Gibbs must go??" I thought our fans were smarter than that.

Thanks for the pic ROB. That is my background now.

Our fans? Smart? By and large...no |

It's starting to look that way. Sigh... I would have been sick if I heard those chants today. Man, what a disheartening Sunday. |
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
I was too tired from walking the mile+ from metro to go down at Half Time sorry.
Great day and I'll post a video and some Stills in a bit. I need to eat and get dry and have a few beers that don't cost $8 a piece. My son and I had a great day together pay honor to family. |

Were they doing that in the stands, or just at the WaPo Live? |
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
In my opinion the crowd was the most lackluster one in Fed Ex history. It was, however with good reason. Nobody could really get their moxie up and it showed...

Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
I was watching it on tv and i could of sworn that the fans were getting loud when the redskins were in the red zone trying to mess them up. When the Bills were on offense, you don't even hear a mouse. Atleast roar against the Bills or something? That had to be the worst crowd I've seen for a team.
|
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
You're right Ninja. It was wierd because it was a nice crowd to say the least but people cheered but it wasn't the same has been the other times. You could hear them trying but it didn't really work. The crowd cheered when the Skins went for it on 4th down because they were hyped. Thursday maybe it'll be different but, yesterday it seemed like the air was taken out of the stadium. Tried to find some of you guys at the bar but that was a MADHOUSE !!!!! Anyway, had a good time at the game, sucks that the Skins lost but honestly;.......I can let it go. Not going to scream Joe must go, not going to yell for the heads of Al Saunders, Gregg Williams, or anyone else. The team was drained, I can honestly let it go.
|
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
It was a very weird mood to say the least. I was really suprised to see so many empty seats..and the crowd noise ebbed and flowed. It wasn't your usual raucus crowd from start to finish.
I think the team was drained and so were the fans. But to your question, SGG..fans were booing in the stands and during Wapo live. |
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
I just wanted to clear something up after reading some other threads. Monksfan, SBF, and Rob feel free to chime in since you guys were in the stands.
During the moment of silence there were a smattering of cheers and "I love You Seans" accross the stadium. It felt awkard, but given the circumstances, you know, all the rules go out the window. As far as the Cowboys fans being silent during the moment of silence, I wouldn't expect a Cowboy fan or any other NFL stadium to yell out "we love you Sean" because he 'aint their Sean, he's ours. So while those handful of fans probably didn't display the best decorum I wouldn't exactly chalk this up as, especially given the raw emotion involved, disrespectful. I honestly think it was a combination of fandom and raw emotion. As I've said earlier, the crowd was displeased with Joe Gibbs. From the time I got out of my seat at the end of the game until I got on the Metro to head home, many fans were expressing their disatisfaction. |
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
Well during the moment of silence I was walking back from the mob of folks crowded around two police officers who were passing out the #21 towels so I wasn't there for it. A friend of min said that he heard the people yelling it on the tv broadcast and it upset him a little. I can understand it because you do have that raw emotion where you want to say something and everyone knows. Myself, I wouldn't have done it because it places the emphasis on you and not to the man that the silence is for. That silence was for him not for that specific fan. However, I can understand why they did it.
The guys that I were with were yelling for Joe's head. Like I said earlier I honestly can let it go. I felt really bad to see Fred Smoot on the sideline in tears. Seeing that let me really just enjoy the game itself as opposed tp the outcome. Yeah I wanted them to win but I think it was Smoot who just laid on the field after the field goal. I felt bad for them because they really wanted to win but they didn't. They as well as the coaches had to deal with going out there and playing that game. Sucks to lose but it doesn't matter to me. |
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
I heard a few "I love you Seans" during the moment of silence and also way too many people still wearing a hat during the National Anthem. WTF? I heard one guy yelling at others to remove their hats. Thousands and thousands kept their hats on in disrespect to this Nation.
I heard some disapproval about Gibbs and the Team but really no more then you hear at any home game loss IMHO. I thought the crowd was quite loud at times really. It never gets as loud as RFK with half as many people but the 12th Man was very much doing his part LOUDLY. Rock is a crowd favorite too as many yelled his name. We came, we gave tribute, we played and God opened the Heavens and let his tears fall on us all as it rained. That will go down as one of the most memorable days I ever went to a game win or not. Hail Skins! mike |
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
I so wish I could have gotten a Taylor towel for all the Warpath brethren. I gave mine to a good friend who couldn't be there.
The people who were yelling didn't really bother me all that much. I too wish they would have remained silent, but oh well. Man, that game really made me miss Taylor. |
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
Fans are pussies, me and my buddy where we were sitting had to yell at other fans to make some god damn nouise and swing their towels on pivitul 3rd down plays, field goals, pretty much any play that buffalo needed, but to no avail. And also, i thought this game was going to be sold out, but there were sooo many empty seats
|
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
yup kind of a weird vibe going on at the stadium, nice to see everyone remain standing for the skins first drive thoo, crowd got real loud when they showed they were going for it on 4th, JC and others had to give the crowd the "hush down now" signal . . . no "sean taylor" or "S . . T..." chant broke out thoo
just kinda hard to cheer or get pumped on a day like that. diehardskin - yeah a good portion of skins fans are vaginas as you put it; telling you to sit down when our D is on the field, not showing up to the ST game because of a 70% chance of rain but thats what you get when most of the season ticket holders are upper class fair weather (pun intended) fans with the prices the way they are . . . sometimes it sucks being lumped together with these people |
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
There was a few empty seats scattered but for the most part it was a good crowd. It's kind of hard to get to pumped when its 9 to 5.
The tribute was very moving though. There was alot of ST support out there which was great to see. Not alot of exciting plays though. CP ran for 50 yards on 25 carries for god sake...not too exciting. I knew we weren't going to lose this game, though, not yesterday. However, we decided that we going to go conservative and try to "out Gibbs" em. Then i knew that we blew it. Unfortunately, the fans have become used to it. I've become used to. I used to be a glass half full fan, now not so much. So maybe that's partly your answer. |
Re: Skins/Bills Game: Atmosphere At FedEx Today
It was a shame that during a moment of silence to honor a fallen Redskin, that you had people who didn't have enough respect to keep their damn mouth shut. Sorry, but only a complete moron would do such a thing, and if I offend someone, so be it. And I saw a few people with their hats on during the National Anthem. Some people will never understand...
It was certainly a weird vibe at FedEx yesterday. Went with a friend of mine, taking the Landover shuttle in, and caught up with a few friends at their tailgate for about 10 minutes before heading in. Got to our seats in time for the start of the honoring. Watched a Redskins fan (female) look like a total ignoramus by throwing not 1 but 2 chicken tenders at a Buffalo fan (yes the Buffalo fan was mouthy, but not disrespectful at all...until he said I will whip your ass when our entire section just happened to go silent). Stood for most of the 2nd half, watched in awe as the Skins gave the game away, watched another fan get held back by 2 people to not go after more Buffalo fans, and had a solemn walk back to the Landover shuttle in the rain. |

We sat in a good hour and a half of traffic and just sort of talked about the experience. I didn't go to the game for a win, I went just to be there. I wasn't disappointed par se, but a win would have felt better. On my walk back I witnessed a brawl between fans and it was pretty funny. A few dudes started slugging it out, and some big Redskins fan just open field tackled the Buffalo fan from behind. It was pretty funny. Overall it was a somber experience. The CP touchdown was great (I'll post the video of it in a bout 30 min after it uploads to webshots). It was good to see the boys come back. At any rate.. I've got some cleaning to do, so I'll let this shit upload, and then post a link up in a little bit. Cheers. |
