There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
Stop. Don't Write the Redskins off till AFTER this week's game..
Reasons: (6-6) Detroit - Look at their schedule.. (We have tie breaker**) Vs Cowboys-L @ Chargers-L Vs Chiefs-W @ Packers-W or L (6-6) Arizona - Look at their schedule.. (We have tie breaker**) @ Seahawks-L (most likely) @ Saints-W/L (Saints might be our biggest threat) Vs Falcons-W Vs Rams-L (resurgent Rams will beat the Cards) (6-6) Vikings-We still play them after this week's Bears game (5-7) Bears-We still play them this week Then we have 2 VERY important NFC games and if we win those we keep pace with the Saints/Eagles (assuming they win the remainder) My point: If the Redskins win the remainder of their games...I'm going to say there's about a 80% chance we're in the playoffs with a 9-7 record.. Luckily, the Redskins have won tie breaker games with teams whom we are competing with in the NFC and IF we win 4 in a row, i think we'll go... So, the question is... How do we get those wins? Vs Bears @ Vikings @ Giants Vs Cowboys |
Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
The way Minnesota is playing right now, the only way I see us winning is to hire Tonya Harding to take out Adrian Peterson AND Chester Taylor.
|
Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
I've maintained all along that 9-7 gets us in. The problem is that winning streaks are largely an exception to Gibbs 2.0. Instead of thinking playoffs, the team must focus on winning a single game, starting this Thursday.
In four seasons since Gibbs returned, the team has only 4 winning streaks. During the same period, the team has somewhere around 10 losing streaks. |
Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
This game against the Bills was unfortunate but in that grand scheme probably not as costly as the second Eagles game, or the Bucs game. Those were two games we should have and could have won.
I don't want to worry about the playoffs really. I just want us to go out there and play some mistake-free football. |
Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
Honestly, this team needs a draft pick more than a playoff berth. Sadly, this is doubly true in the wake of Sean's passing.

Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
Arizona already beat the Seahawks once - whose to say they won't do it again?

well if we dont make it to the playoffs and we resort to the draft i dont mind picking up miami's kenny phiilips..he is a true playmaker in the secondary...but i think we need a big play reciever so lets bring on malcolm kelly or desean jackson.. |
Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
I can see us beating Chi and the NYG. Cannot see Gibbs packing it in just yet....he's too dignified and caring of a person to allow a losing streak to linger much longer and, well, if we become blitz-happy against those two clubs, I feel we can force Rex and Eli into costly mistakes. The question is: how many costly mistakes can WE avoid? That's what it really has come down to in the nearly four-season coaching run by Gibbs, an utter lack of discipline and repetitive, correctable miscues made at the momentum-changing stages of games. THAT behavior has not stopped. Our talent has not overcome our carelessness. There's one thing I know about Gibbs, however. He is not careless and will get this team in the right form to beat the Bears and upset the G-Men. Whether or not we win a likely slugfest in Minnesota is for the critics to decide. Let's not look that far down the road, and keep hope.

Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
Sorry Charley, we split the remaining 4 at best and that will leave us out by a game or two. Did you see the Gmen at Soldier Field tonight? They were beaten ,but pulled a Buffalo of there own on the Bears. Bears are a winnable game unless JC fumbles the ball away too many times. Minnesota is a machine now, especially in the Dome, with two great RB's and an O line that is pretty good. Dallas is going to have to still win everything to stay ahead of GB so don't count on them pulling folks against us. Might not matter at that point if we lose two more by then. One can't say that us winning 3 out of 4 isn't going to happen, but by the way we have been playing lately, it is a huge longshot. And talking of a 4 game sweep? I have a better shot at nailing a Victoria's Secret Model!!!!

Have to agree. Us taking 4 in a row isn't in the cards, with our play as of late. We need help in many areas and also we need to cut dead weight. Injuries decimated our season, along with poor execution at critical junctures in games. I like Springs and Smooty, but Shawn is getting up there, and Smooty is not close to 100% of what he was during his first stint with us. With ST gone we are hurting at S. Landry is going to be a "project" for another season or two, so we might try for another ST type, but I don't think there is a Landry/ST out there for the next draft. We either need a CB or DE as our first pick. We usually do great with CB's. |

IF this was Gibbs I, no problem, Gibbs II there is a problem. We are just too decimated and out of sync to pull that off. |

On a somewhat related note, how is that David Macklin is inactive every week? Is he actually hurt? I mean this guy is a proven veteran, why isn't he out there? |

He's proven over his career to be a pretty weak cover guy. Seems like the coaches know this since he's inactive every week. But we leave him on the roster, and I'm not sure why. Maybe he does something in practice for us that we value or possibly we value his leadership. |
Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
I'm with you...but lets look at this ojectively...
we've lost 4 in a row, our coach staff has made questionable decisions, and our best player just died...what makes you think that 4 in a row is in the cards? We just lost to a team that has both the 31st ranked offense and defense in the league...sporting a backup QB and 3rd string RB (i know we have our injuries too, but we needed to win this game...) that said, I'm with you...i'm hoping too |

No way the Cards win out or the Lions win out, like you said, look at the schedules. We are in if we win out, no ifs and or butts about it. Problem is, we are not playing to beat teams. We have a good team, and we play very well for about 30-48 minutes, problem is, 60 minutes = full game. It doesn't seem like our heart is in it, and that was BEFORE Taylor died. Taylor's death clearly didn't inspire a win vs a clearly inferior team either. I will actually go even farther and say, I think an 8-8 team will get the final spot. It's POSSIBLE a 7-9 could get it. I was laughed at the first time I said 8-8 will make it, and look how strong of a possibility that is now! Of course we can do it, but we need to do a couple things. 1- stop turning the ball over, 2- play with a killer instinct. Of course we can do it, and I know we can do it, but do they know they can do it???? |

To tell you the truth i dont know..im not worried as much about the corners. i think we're overloaded with talent at the corner position..springs,rogers,smoot..we're covered there..if we had taylor alive all i'd concentrate on would be lance briggs next year..or maye andre davis from houston..but Phillips i think will follow the footsteps of other great miami db's like ed reed and sean taylor..r.i.p. |

Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
Play-offs,Play-off....What Play-offs? I have a gold mine I wanted to sell you! If we win one game that will be good! We need to look to the draft, free agentcy and who stays and who goes. That is the plan truth. Just getting through sunday game and the rest of the season after Taylor's passing is something that will take great effort. It will hurt for a long time.

I'm sorry about the loss yesterday to Buffalo, but the Sean Taylor tragedy just took too much time from the team. They did not have the prep time as they would a normal week. And even that time in the film room or meetings or on the practice field could not have been "quality" time with everyones thoughts on what happened to ST. Sadly I cannot justify picking Washington to win versus Chicago this week. For all the reasons BrunellMVP mentioned here. But also because it is a very short preparation week (Thursday game) that you can eliminate one day due to Sean's funeral. Normally players in the NFL get Monday off following a Sunday game, but this is a short prep week for a Thursday game. Everyone will be in Miami on Monday. And that will leave them 2 days to prep for the Bears. Thank god it is a home game, or you could take another day away for travel, which would have only allowed one day to prepare for the game. |

There was a woman in our section, lower bowl, who screamed out "Go Sean" which was the first break of the moment of silence. Then there were at least two other idiots who needed attention and yelled as well. Very tacky. Of course, she spent the better part of the Arizona game cheering for Santana Moss (inactive for that one) and Andre Carter, yet was surprisingly silent when Carter got his sack. |

Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
I know there is a ton people with the "hey we aren't out of it yet" mentality. and realistically we are still IN IT. but come on, what gives any of you the reason they can beat any of the 4 teams we have left on the schedule? face it, we are not a good football team, and we are not very well coached. How many of you sat there yesterday and wondered if we were going to win with 2 minutes to go? I sat there and told this guy, we are going to run it 3 times, punt, and lose on a last second field goal. This is WHO WE ARE. at the very same time, I was looking at the colts - jags game. they were in the same situation, up 3 with 2minutes to go. They on the other hand are running their offense, trying to get first downs, to win the game with the ball. This is a true example of what has been said time after time out here. Joe doesn't play to win, he plays not to lose. this crap has cost of 5 or more games this year.
yesterday was a perfect time for this team to rebound and get back in the season, and what did we do, took a face dive. typical of Redskin football the last 4 or so years. |

The players did have to deal with a tremendous tragedy, but they did not miss any practice time because of it. Sean passed on Tuesday, which is the player's off day, and unfortunately NFL players do not get bereavement leave. I agree that they were admittedly distracted this week, however unfortunately this is not even a new phenomena for '07. ESPN - Memphis' campus closed after lineman shot to death - College Football The lack of preparation time would mean something if they hadn't moved the ball so well for the majority of the game. They were emotionally spent after the week they had. I wished they would have taken out their pain on the Bills, but as Doc Walker said today the same things that have plagued them all season bit them yesterday. That is, short yardage and red zone situations. We are 5-7 because when we need someone to step and make a play we don't have anyone we can depend on to do it. I think the one thing missing from the Skins in Gibbs 2.0 is accountability. B. The team will only get one practice day in before the Bears game, but at this point in the season don't the players pretty much know what's going on anyway? Sure, the coaches will miss some time preparing the game plan, but what you hope is that the memorial service allows the Skins to begin to move forward. The reality is that Sean is gone and we've got four games left to make something of our season. I would say that its not going to happen, but then again I didn't think there was a chance we'd lose four straight when we made it to 5-3. So its possible, I'd give it a low possibility of happening just because of how things have broken for us thus far, but stranger things have happened. |
Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
I haven't seen any inspired play from the Redskins this season. I agree 9-7 goes to the playoffs, but I don't have any reason to believe the skins will get there.

Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
I agree that a draft pick is more important than the playoffs, eventhough making the playoff is a fantasy.... I am not sure we will win another game the rest of the season to be honest.

Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
We are not a good team right now...for all the talk that we should have won 6 out of our seven loses, we also could have lost 4 out of our 5 wins. Bottom line: we've lost 4 in a row, coach gibbs made a huge fundamental (read remedial) error, and taylor just died....the playoffs are a dream. The focus now shifts on helping jason campbell (and other young bucks) progress...
|
Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
I would say that about sums it up. The talent is there, and honestly I love Gibbs as a talent evaluator, I just think he needs to basically study this whole off-season about the modern NFL or move into a talent evaluation position.
Obviously, Campbell is looking great, just need to give him more time unlike yesterday. :( |
Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
This team does not, DOES NOT, need to play for a draft pick. They need to, excuse me Herm, play to win the game. They have played tough for the past month with nothing to show for it. They need to smell and taste victory, especially Campbell, and get some swagger in them. They need some momentum to build on heading into Campbell's 2nd full season.

Re: There's alot of negative energy in here surrounding the playoffs well....
As far as the moment of silence goes, it's hard to keep 90,000 people quiet. However, it is quite tacky to hear the different cheers during it. The first one I heard was "We Love You Sean" from a male voice...and that kinda shot a few more. The buddy I went to the game with looked at me afterwards and said, "Some people just don't get it". I couldn't agree more.
As far as this team goes, I'm glad some are able to keep a level of optimism amongst themselves. I thank you for that, and wish I felt the same way. However, this team is not a playoff team on several levels. Injuries have killed this team, and with a few more stemming from yesterday (Springs, Wade), it's going to be extremely difficult to go at such a pace. The Skins have lost 4 straight, 2 of which they had leads well into the 4th quarter. While this team is a few plays away from being 8-4, the simple fact remains this team cannot finish games out. Then you have the physical, mental and emotional exhaustion from last week's events. Playing yesterday, flying back and forth to Miami today, and playing the Bears on Thursday...while it's a noble feat, it's only going to lead to complete frustration once Friday morning rolls around, win or lose to the Bears. As Smoot said earlier, all I can hope for is mistake free football from here on out. The playoffs are a pipe dream. |
