New year, same role for Archuleta
He's back on the pine:
This was supposed to be "The Game" for Adam Archuleta -- his chance for revenge against a Redskins organization he believed wronged him during his brief stay last season. Instead, Archuleta finds himself in the same undesirable situation. Link: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-bearsbits06dec06,1,2765164.story |
Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
I heard this last night on CC sports. Looks like his career is probably over. My only question is what in the hell does he have to be made at us about? We only made him the highest paid safety in the NFL. If anything we should be the one's that are pissed. The guy sucked!

Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
How hard can it be to learn to cover???? I mean come on how long has the guy been in the NFl and nobody taught him how to cover, that just seems crazy to me-
|
Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
Typically guys can either cover or they can't.
Certain techniques can be taught, but in the end guys either have it or they don't. AA has never been a good cover guy. |
Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
The thing that always got me was that when everyone was injured, he got all pissy about being asked to play a greater role in coverage...what a bitch
What's that saying: "look like Tarzan, Play like Jane?" |
Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
Unfortunately for him, he's a pass rusher in a receiver's body. He doesn't have the bulk to play defensive line or linebacker (especially since he can't cover), so his play suffers.
If he plays from here on out, he'll be a Special Teamer. So he has a choice to make. Mold the rest of his career after guys like Steve Tasker and Bill Bates, or he can mosey on home and do infomercials for Ron Popeil. |

Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
one consolation, he gets to go home every-night to a sweet wife.

Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
Yeah, and count millions from his signing bonus with us...

Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
i dont wish AA any ill will, while he did get paid he also got alil bit of the shaft by us:
- leading the team in tackles last season before he was benched (or atleast the first 5 games or so) - redskins organization count of tackles had him at less then the NFL count which is kinda unheard of i did appreciate how he handled the situation in not mopping around the locker room even though he was probaly the guy who leaked all that crap last season to the media . . go skins! |

Anytime a safety has a lot of tackles it probably means there are big problems with the front 7, which there were for us last year. That's a big "even though" with your last statement there. Not sure how you can say on one hand that you appreciated the way he didn't mope around the locker room, and then on the other acknowledge he was the leak that undoubtedly lead to some locker room animosity with his teammates. The fact that he's on the bench in Chicago only proves the point that he is not starting material anymore and it validates our coaches decision to bench him last year. |
Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
yeah as i was writing that i was like "damn thats a big 'even thoo'" but he did lead us in tackles until he was benched and the skins did credit him with less tackles then the stingy NFL gave him so . . . . . i wish mattyk72 was the caps goalie, cant slip anything past the kid
go skins! |
Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
The only thing the Redskins did to AA was let him rob them of money and valuable cap space...if I'm not mistaken, aren't we still paying his salary even though he's with Chicago?
|
Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
Ha-Ha! (spoken in Nelson's voice)
Seriously, this sucks for AA. He went down the drain faster than anyone has ever. |

Actually the Bears picked up $5M of his contract bonus which helped lighten the cap hit for us. |
Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
Arch deluxe sucks period. He did make out like a bandit with Snyder's money. I remember watching bears highlights and him being out of position EVERY big play. What did we ever see in this guy.lol

This helped more than a bit, it was a coup really. Our FO screwed up by bringing him here, but give them credit for cutting their losses as best they could. I still don't understand why the Bears would pay $5M of his bonus when we'd probably have cut him anyways. My buddy is a longtime Bears fan and last year he was so excited to get Arch. I tried to warn him but he wouldn't listen saying things like "Lovie coached him in Stl and will revamp his career" and "The Bears D is strong enough that Arch won't be asked to cover, only play the run..." Let's just say that right now my buddy hates him more than I ever did. |

Why are you putting McCardell and Fletcher in that list? |
Re: New year, same role for Archuleta
nothing against fletcher or mccardell.Mccardell was one of the best recievers of HIS time. nobody could control their body and stay in bounds with possesion better then him. and Fletch was a beast at linebacker and still is doing decent for us. But we have and still do have a history of overpaying older guys.dont take nothing from any of them. they all might be future hall of famers? But we do have trouble building up our team in the draft like indy and n.e. who has around 16 players from 02 til now whom starts today because we keep trading for the quick fix and signing hiring the ones on the way out.like the yankees.
