the playoff hunt...

We're 6-7, and have 3 teams above us.
Detroit 6-6, we have the tie breaker vs them, and they play Dallas.
Minnesota 6-6, we play them soon, and they play SF.
Arizona 6-6, we have the tie breaker vs them, and they play seattle.

It's very possible we will see ourselves behind only Minnesota after this week, and in two weeks we will face them which could be the key to the last playoff spot. Either way we look at this, we are still very much in the playoff picture.

Basically we need to win out. I think the most important question, besides the Giants game is will the Cowboys play starters in the last game?

Huh? The Giants are going to get a battle tested Redskin team in ten days. We have been in almost every game this season.

win out or go home.

Time to get the Todd Collins train rolling baby. Warm up the "Collins Caravan", and let's get this party started baby!

I don't like our chances... and I think we finish 8-8, but if we win out that would be awesome.

Last night was further evidence that this team is not built to play grind it out "Redskins Football". The sooner Gibbs recognizes this and allows Saunders to continue running the more aggressive KC style offense we saw in the 2nd half last night, the better our chances will be.

i'd agree, win out or go home...a scenario that looks less likely with JC down. I know Collins played well, but its one thing to come in a game for an injured QB and catch the Defense off guard, but its another thing to play that well against a team that has game planned for you all week- just ask A.J. Feely.

All I know is the Redskins traditionally can be a very SCARY team in December. Somehow that train just seems to start rolling.

get on the bus. the giants don't scare me at all. the vikings starting quarterback is who? and the cowboys will not be playing any of their starters against the skins

We can do this people. The Giants CAN be beat...and in case you haven't noticed, they haven't exactly played well. I don't think we will lose twice to them this season. Then we'll have Minnesota and will NEED to stop the run. If we do that, we will WILL be in the playoffs.

Was it that he ran Saunders system more the second half or that Collins knows how to run the system better JC?

With Collins in the game I think it was pretty clear that Saunders was calling things differently. He even said himself that he's got a lot of confidence in Collins.

I don't think we should read that as he lacks confidence in Campbell... obviously there's a certain comfort level there due to Collins and Saunders having worked together in this offense for so many years.

I think the Bills game taught him that. Give me 31 rushing yds and a win.

I think with Collins, you see the extent to which Saunders system is based around short, quick passes. They really caught the Bears flat footed a few times. I'm not sure that Campbell's skill set, which is impressive in it's own right, fits all that well with what Saunders wants to do. However, I think that our other skill players fit that philosophy extremely well. If we can tape our defense together for three more games, we have an excellent chance.

Re: the playoff hunt...

When Jason Campbell went down, I thought, "there goes the season". Seeing Todd Collins run the offense efficiently, gave me a lot of hope. The G-Women do have The-Other-Manning quarterbacking their teams, which should also instill hope into Redskins fans. The G-Women can be beat. The Vi-Queens also have a suspect quarterback. Tavarius Jackson plays like a rookie quarterback and Greg Williams should sent the kitchen sink after him. All the Skins need to do is limit Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson to reasonable numbers. Anything can happen in a rematch with the Cow-Girls.

Re: the playoff hunt...

For all this talk that Collins' knows & runs the system better, didn't anyone notice that we were keeping 2 backs & often a TE in to block quite a bit? If it wasn't max pro it was close. On the contrary, JC ran the O w/only 1 back in on most passing downs & has been for weeks.

Seems to me the staff got cautious after JC's injury & Collins fumble. It paid off as he still had guys open. If we got JC that kind of time I think he would've had the same game. We certainly don't want to see Collins under a lot of pressure & can't expect him to make a lot of plays when the protection breaks down.

Re: the playoff hunt...

I think the biggest key would be minnesota. They need to lose a game or two, counting against us. Arizona, will lose another game probably two. we need to win all of our games basically to have a realistic shot at this thing.

I do think we need to just air it out and let Al take over and call his offensive plays. we have nothing to lose.

If we win out were good we have the last wild card spot no doubt

Re: the playoff hunt...

Minnesota is definitely beatable... they only really have a running offense. Their D is pretty decent, but we should be able to get into the endzone against them....

The Giants are scary right now, though... Their running game may do more damage to us than the vikes, actually, because if we cheat up against them they'll make us pay... so we'll see landry deep the whole game to negate their passing game, and they have some strong backs that hit holes hard.

it'll be hard to get our o on the field and keep our qb clean against their pass rush, too...

this will be the hardest game of the season.

if we win this one, and minnesota, I think dallas wont play romo and to the whole game, if much at all... and even if they do our guys will be pumped knowing they can get into the playoffs with a win... also a home game agaisnt dallas with playoffs on the line will get the fans pretty pumped and make for a hostile december environment...

if we lose to the giants though, I say we'll finish 7-9
IF we can beat the Giants....I like our chances....I like them ALOT!
Right now, the Minnesota game looms as the tougher match up. The Vikings WHOOPED the Giants in New York two weeks ago 41-17, and crushed the Lions last week 41-10. They've won three in a row, are hot, and have the chance to gain even more momentum by playing the 49ers this weekend. And our game against them will be in Minnesota. I know someone has warned that we shouldn't be looking past the Giants, and I'm definitely not, but it's that Viking team that right now looks like the much tougher opponent.

I agree...even Gibbs said that Collins KNOWS when something is wrong in practice. He is obviously very football intelligent. By watching him, he seems to lack raw skill, something that Campbell does not lack. If we could put collins head in the saunders system on Campbell's body, we'd have a hall of famer on our hands.
Maybe we will now see the infamous 700 page playbook, instead of about 15 pages.

I noticed that too. Shows that max protect and a vertical attack are not incompatible. The QB just has to be able to make quick reads. Campbell isn't there yet.

Of course, it helps when the opposing D looks like it's half-assing it as the Bears did.

Yeah, but out of our 6/7 losses, we choked at the end:
Giants:gave it up, 24-21, up by 10 at the half.
Packers: Had a chance, gave up a stupid fumble, 17-14
Pats: Forget it, 52-7
Birds: Lost at the end, couldn't score in Red zone 32-26
Dallas: Late INT. 28-23
Tampa: 6 ints, 19-13
Buffalo: Bad penalty, 17-16, led whole game

as you see, this is the anatomy of a 2000's skin team

At least the one game I went to this year wasnt the 52-7 blowout at Gillete...

If we win against the Giants and Vikings its shades of 05... we had the 3 game losing streak to go to 5-6 all close games (even tho we won the TB game f*ck Mike Allstott!!) and then we started wining big down the stretch..

Id feel better without all the injuries but whatever were playing meaningful games in December and thats what its all about!!
