Skins vs. Giants game balls
Who gets yours?
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
Smoot for playing Burress tough all night and for deflecting at least one TD pass. Probably Portis deserves the ball, but just sticking up for Smoot after that unfortunate earlier thread.
How about Suisham getting some love for the 49 yarder in those conditions? |
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
Honestly, for this game I don't want to give it to any superstars, I want to give a shared game ball to a few role players who made all the difference in the world.
Stephon Heyer, Reed Doughty, HB Blades, Fred Smoot and the offensive line. Sure those aren't all just "role players" but those were the keys to the game. |
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
Portis. He was running with great authority last night. I was kind of down on him this year, it seemed like he was tentative in getting to the hole throughout the season. But last night there was no indecision whatsoever, it was one cut and full speed for the most part. Makes me think that the earlier performances were more a result of the holes just not being there.

Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
Wow, this really is a toss-up. I went with the offensive line. No one, I mean no one expected Heyer and Samuels to keep those ends off Collins for pretty much the entire game.

Joe Gibbs! 50 yard field goal in that wind, yup he gets my game ball! |
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
If I can't give it to Eli Manning's receivers, it goes to Smoot. He played Burress well, broke up some HUGE plays. Overall, Smoot has been HUGE over the last few weeks. He's playing lights out.

Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
In my keys, Porits was one of them, he was terriffic!

I have and it was there , Simms could throw a curv ball Bavaro and him would do it all the time.Playing the Pats on a Monday night we were in the endzone ....amazing! |
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
I gave it to the O-line. They opened holes for CP and kept TC upright. IMO Portis got the spotlight for their great work. They get my game ball.
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
im gonna give it to portis, he may not break them all but when he gets a little bit he makes the most of it, the guy keeps on moving.
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
O line, especially Heyer & also some love for Fabini. Our run plays were not limited to the left side only.
Heyer always looks pretty good in pass blocking. We could have our future RT. |
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
No love for Carter yet? I wish I saved my vote I guess. 10.5 sacks on the year and 4 forced fumbles. He's been a nice playmaker at DE and he's not the liability against the run that he was last year.
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
Has to be the O-line. Giving Collins time back there and opening the holes for Portis.
Seriously, if I hadn't started that other thread, would Smoot be on the list? The wind shut down almost all of the passing in the game. |

Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
Portis. With the weather conditions and Todd Collins at QB, if we had no running game, we'd have NO chance.
Portis stepped up BIG and moved the ball down the field for us when no one else really could. Smoot was my second choice, he played a GREAT game on D, but without Portis' game, we'd have no points. He also saved Collins' life with some big-time blocks several times. |
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
Another vote for Portis. If the run game doesn't get off the ground (the O Line did well, but Portis did awesome finishing off runs), the Skins have zero chance in this game, even with the 400 drops the Giants had...
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
I gave it to O line for opening holes for Portis and giving Collins time to make some playes.
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
onlydarksets: really? because I saw him ripping balls out of Plax's hands. Give it up when credit is due.
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
This is a multiple game ball kind of game. Game balls to the offensive line, Portis, Smoot, Suisham, Carter, Alexander and most of all the WIND!!!!
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
I"ll give it to Portis just because he's been struggling this year. But the offensive line did their part to shut down that line that leads the league in sacks. They also made some gaping holes especially off the draw plays. This was another typical Joe Gibbs win. Running the ball down their throats and playing great D. But I still think Smoot deserves all the credit in the world. He shut down Plaxico and he has been phenomenal for the second straight game. It feels really good to beat New York and put them in a hard position with only two games left.
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
I said this in another thread, but I think CP has actually had a pretty good year, especially considering all of the injuries on the O-line. He's on pace for 1600 all-purpose yards and 9 TDs. Plus he's just a wicked blocking back and a consummate team player. He's just played below the radar for some reason.
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
.....or how about we give the game ball to Brandon Jacobs for dropping everything? ......But he might drop the game ball also.
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
I give it to Portis. Man he looked good last night. I didn't think there was anyway we were going to push around the Giants d-line like we did. That was a great effort.

And how about his fearless tackles - like the one where he knocked himself out taking on brandon. Springs, in his postgame interview, said he gave FS all kinds of heartache for that one. |
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
I voted for the offensive line, but I just as easily could have given it to Portis. Betts had 8 carries for 29 yards, which comes to 3.6 per carry. So aside from the 15 yard TD on the draw, he didn't do too much. Portis on the other hand really created some runs, the spin move to get away from Strahan, etc.
But the offensive line sold that draw play all game long, and came up big by only allowing 2 sacks to that vaunted Giants pass rush. Heyer on Strahan was especially good, which was my biggest worry going into the game. Portis had a hand in pass protection too - he was diving all over the place and laying dudes out. Can I give out two game balls? |
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
I give it to Moss. His catch started the entire offense moving. It helped Collins relax and just play.

I keep hearing this, but he has 1396 yards (1082 rushing)with 8 TDs, is 3rd in the NFC in rushing and 7th in the NFL. :oink: |
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
Plenty of praise to go around, but I noticed CP was really working hard... diving to make the extra couple of yards and making good blocks. I'm giving it to him!
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
Whole team deserves it in my opinion. And I especially love how my main man Andre Carter has been playing for the past season and a quarter.
However, I'm going to go against the grain a bit and give a game ball to Anthony Montgomery. Recovered a fumble, constantly shed blockers to make tackles, and anchored that interior (half the game without Cornelius by his side) to allow guys like Carter and Khary Campbell to make the highlight plays. |

Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
My game balls are for Fred Smoot, Stephon Heyer, Lorenzo Alexander, and Sean Suisham
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
Without question the O-Line gets my game ball. These guys handled their front 4 and then some. I also want to give a shout-out to Lorenzo Alexander...he was making plays all over the place, defense, offense, and special teams...dude is a beast!
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
And a coaches ball to Al Saunders for calling the draw play like 4 times in a row. I was laughing my ass off.
|
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
How about one for Amani "Rod" Toomer. Wow, that might have been one of the worst drops ever.

Also, the o-line had some blown blocks. Did anyone hear Madden say that Portis prefers to block when he's supposed to be the check-down? I think it's a perfect example of the type of player Portis is: gritty. He's willing to do the dirty stuff, even if it means giving up the plays that would give him glory. He's not standing there waiting for the ball -- he's looking to knock somebody in the face. Portis definitely deserves the game ball. |
Re: Skins vs. Giants game balls
The Giants knew the run was coming because of the wind, Clinton still took the day.
