Refs and Roids
I don't mean to start a controversy, but in the face of the Mitchell report doesn't it seem strange that no one has yet addressed potential steroid abuse among NFL referees. I mean we've had at least one living example for many years, arguably the most popular ref in the NFL, Ed Hochuli.
Image:Ed Hochuli.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Ya can't tell me he's all natural. The man is 57 years old, a trial attorney and has six kids! Where did he find the strength for that? And now we also have a 61 year old referee, Jim Quirk, putting Green Bay linebacker, Nick Barnett, in a rear naked choke that Chuck Liddell would envy. Even more stunning is the fact that the player threatened to file a grievance because he was subdued by a man twice his age! YouTube - Nick Barnett taken out by Umpire Jim Quirk I just wanted to assure everyone that I am absolutely serious about my concern for this issue and this is not some feeble attempt at comic relief for us before a monumental game against our archrival. Honest. GMAT _____________________________ I don't have stress. I cause stress. |

Re: Refs and Roids
What does it matter if refs re actually using steroids?? I mean, they ren't playing or anything like that.. In fact, I would not blame them if they use it, they do get hurt while reffing a game - gets hit by a huge guy with football pads, it gotta hurts..
|
Re: Refs and Roids
Can we discuss refs and Hemorrhoids?
I don't care if the refs are roiding out daily... as long as they don't interfere with the games any more than usual. I DO think there are still ways NFL players are juicing. I think there's no way TO came back from that broken leg in like 4 weeks to play in the superbowl without some HGH or something... |

Honest. GMAT _____________________________ I don't have stress. I cause stress.
This is just ridiculous. Why is it that when a man takes care of himself, works out hard and eats right, that one is accused of taking steriods or HGH? Trust me, if you train hard, which Ed H. does, and eat right, you can look good until the day you die. Most people that don't workout think you have to be on something in order to look good at an older age. They are also jaded by the media. On the other side of that.... Let's say he is taking something. You still have to work out hard and eat right. There is no such thing as a miracle drug. I myself workout hard 6 days a week. I'm almost 40 and I've never looked better. I have less bodyfat now than when I was in HS. You know why? Cause I train hard and eat right, just like Ed H. does. Yet I have friends who think I'm on something. They are just are not educated about training/ health and fitness. But to me it's a compliment. |

Honest.
Is this for real? Anyone who knows anything about bodybuilding or steroids can tell you that Ed Hochuli is NOT juicing. I lifted competitively at one point and have spent lots of time around guys who have done it naturally and guys who have not. Steroid users have a certain look, which Hochuli simply does not have. Probably the biggest proof is that Hochuli is also not really that big - if he's juicing, he's doing a pretty bad job at it. Like skinsfan69 said, anyone with a moderate amount of work and proper diet could look like Hochuli. Thinking that his size or fitness level is abnormal shows an alarming lack of knowledge of fitness and diet. And how does a ref putting a guy in a headlock serve as any proof that anyone is using steroids?? And how does this thread even exist? And why am I responding to it? |

Present and Future Posters (if there are any),
I suggest everyone reread the initial post (focusing on the last few sentences) and then look up the word "satire". If after that you don't understand the thread, then just move along. GMAT _______________________________ You can lead a horse to water, but... |

Re: Refs and Roids
Why can't a 57 year old man build his body up? It isn't physically impossible. As far as having six kids and all that. Well, I'm sure the guy has the money for a nanny, so it's not like he's spending every waking minute with his kids.

Re: Refs and Roids
Reread the thread. You'll see quite a few that got it. Those that didn't...no problem. Then there is really only you in the thread who'd rather make personal attacks and act inappropriately, than leave the thread alone. Sounds like you had a bad day. Was it an upset tummy? Toothache? Just ornery to begin with?

Hey, is that more of the world-class satire? You're really on a role! For the record, I fail to see anyone who "got it." Thank you for the advice on when to leave a thread alone, by the way. I really appreciate it, as I wasn't entirely sure what to do before you clued me in. I was sitting in front of my computer, staring into space without the foggiest notion of how to proceed with my life. Hey look, more "satire." |
Re: Refs and Roids
alright, i got your pm, but seeing as how you're continuing this thing here:
A) the first thing i asked was if this was for real, and you responded that it surely was not. B) nothing i posted was really mean spirited (and it was directed more at the thread), but how seriously am i supposed to take a thread you're now calling satire far after the fact anyways? seems like you'd like it both ways, that you can "make fun" but everyone else has to take you seriously, which leads to doubts about whether this whole thing was satire in the first place. c) again, a silly thread doesn't deserve serious responses, and arguing with someone who actually thinks this is a real problem would be pointless. trust me, this board has seen plenty of trolling with "awkward" opinions in the past. It's easier to just change the subject than see people get all warped about something that doesn't really matter in the first place. d) you tell people not to be mean-spirited towards you and immediately follow it up by taking a shot yourself, so, yeah, you're a real winner there too. |

First of all, my apologies to Skinsguy and mhelsig. My comment was not meant to be directed at you. It was meant for a previous (hijack) post from That Guy. I saw Skinsguy and reacted to the "Guy" part. My apologies again. Sorry, you both didn't like the thread. Just for the record, mhelsig, wasn't you're last post more sarcasm then satire? Either way I'll take the hit and a big piece of humble pie.
