Javon Walker?

ESPN - Javon Walker says Denver's not a good fit - NFL

I almost posted this link in another thread, but thought it was worthy of its own. The reason I say that is because of the trade history between skins & broncos. I thought we should've tried to get Walker from GB in 06 rather than Loyd. When healthy the guy can play, the question is if he can stay healthy.

Another reason he may be a good fit here; he was with his friend, Darrent Williams, when he was shot & killed. He's been dealing w/that loss just as the skins have w/the loss of ST. Players here might have more empathy towards him & accept him more readily, even if he's paid more than them.

I'd like to hear your opinion on Walker, and also your opinion on whether the front office discusses a deal w/denver. I like him, but I think the salary would have to come down due to his injury history. No matter what, I believe the Danny et al will at least get in touch w/Denver or vice-versa.

injuries, injuries injuries. We could get a better healthier receiver in the draft for cheaper

Re: Javon Walker?

He's starting to earn that "malcontent" label (not happy with either team he's played for), which may be something this coaching staff would red flag. Especially after going out on a limb for Lloyd.

Re: Javon Walker?

i think when healthy, a definate player! however, just have a hard time bringing in another guy from FA to fill in at WR. I think we have to draft a receiver. We have Moss, Randel El, Thrash, Lloyd (until we release him) and the kid Anothy Mix. I like to see us get him more involved next season. the kid is a monster, 6-5 240 and runs pretty good.

I thought about this too freddy. My biggest concern is really that he has developed a reputation, from what I hear, for having a real attitude problem and creating tensions in the locker room.

hmm to tell you the truth I think Anthony Mix has earned the opportunity for a chance to replace Brandon Lloyd, this guy is pretty special and hopefully Mike Espy will still be in the picture..lol i know but there is just something about the guy that i like

if that's the case, combined w/his injuries, he certainly wouldn't be worth it.

I would love for the skins to get a solid, if not great, wr in the draft, but given our needs, I think its a position that's worth looking at in free agency/trades.

I find it kinda funny that a lot of people here are mentioning Mix, but have probably never seen him play WR. Sure he's a great special teamer, but we haven't seen him play a down as a wr for the skins. I vaguely remember him at Auburn.

Another possibility that I like if we're to draft a wr is Deshean Jackson from Cal. He would be worth our #1 pick because he can return punts & kicks. I think we need to replace ARE in that role & we may need to replace Rock if he signs elsewhere.

I would love for MIx to earn a spot & be the 3rd wr, we just have no idea of how good he is. Let him compete in camp though, he's certainly shown he can play teams.

like mentioned before walker has had an injury history and attitude problems, plus we would have to give something up to get him, and hes not the youngest guy out there. id prefer us to go after a free agent like bryant johnson

Agreed. I love Espy, if given the chance he could be our next Gary Clark. Mix is a great special teamer I haven't seen him as a receiver but my gut tells me he's a sleeper. I love both of these guys.

That's a mighty big statement about Espy. I'm not so sure about that. You're talking about a borderline HOF player in Clark.

Re: Javon Walker?

What is this guy's problem? You've got a stud young QB w/ a big arm, great football city w/ passionate fans and an offensive coach. I think this guy is just never happy. Or he's knows that Brandon Marshall is going to be the #1 option. Whatever his problem is, I don't want another potential Brandon Lloyd coming here.

NO! No more overpaid, often injured free agents. For some reasons, players think Washington is the place to go to get paid and not perform. Stop the madness.

Re: Javon Walker?

Javon Walker loves him some Javon Walker. He feels he needs to be #1, and he got edged out in Green Bay, and was outplayed in Denver this year. Marshall, Stokley and Scheffler out played an oft-hurt Walker this year, and he sees the writing on the wall.

He's got potential, but it seems like he's out for "me" and not the team.

Re: Javon Walker?

Screw him. I prefer an NFL virgin. Maybe not as good at first, but you can develop him, and he's more likely to stay loyal to you.

Not much to add here. He wanted more money in Green Bay, they wouldn't give it to him, he got hurt, begged out and was sent to Denver. The knee injury from Green Bay lingered for the past two seasons and really shut him down for all but the first two games of this year. Now Denver "isn't a good fit". I don't know the whole story, but a big-armed QB, a bonafide young stud WR to take away any double-teams, a running game that produces. My only thought is that he felt he was healthy at the end of the year and just wasn't getting balls thrown his way. So he has two options:

A) Go through the off-season, get totally healthy, develop a rapport with Jay Cutler similar to the one Marshall enjoys, and have a dynamic pass offense in 2008.

B) Whine and complain and try to get traded to yet another team.

The guy chooses option B. No thanks. Plus he carries a big price tag and would require draft pick compensation (Denver gave up a 2nd rounder for him in '06, though I would think it would be more like a 4th and/or 5th this time around).

I think we are going to have to hope Espy, Mix or Thrash can step up next year.

At what cost? If he goes anywhere I might see him going to Miami for the first pick in the third round. Would the Skins be willing to give up pick 52 (or whatever their second is) for Johnson? Would sort of contract does he carry? I'm assuming he doesn't come cheap. Plus the Redskins really could benefit more from a guy like T.J. Houshmanzadah than either Chad or Javon IMO.

Re: Javon Walker?

Sounds like Walker has made a bad name for himself. Can't argue w/that, but I still think the skins will at least listen to offers from denver & if they want to get rid of him you know they'll call here first.

I'm not a fan of bringing in C. Johnson, I think he's become more of a problem w/age. I see Walker as a better fit than Johnson, but I'm not for bringing in either if it costs a high draft pick.

I saw on JLC's blog that Mix was signed to a 3 yr. deal so maybe the Mix fans here will get a chance to see the kid play at WR. The fact that he signed a 3 yr. deal that late in the year says something, the front office & coaches must want to give him a chance & thought he might get scooped up elsewhere if they didn't sign him beyond this season. Usually players signed to a roster that late in the year are only for the rest of the season.

Let's hope the kid becomes a dependable wr & we don't need to draft or pick any up in free agency.

Yeah, this is pretty much what my co-worker, a huge Broncos fan, said about him. He has maturity issues and needs to have the attention on him always. I say we pass on him unless....everybody say it...

Here is a idea, how about getting good players from the NFL draft?
Hmmmmm?
Just tell Cerrato the draft has been moved to June.

TJ is who he is because of Chad. Chad frees TJ up, much like TO free's up Witten and Crayton. I'm not saying to get Johnson no matter what the cost but if you can get him without getting bent over the rail then I say get him. We're not blowing up the roster but I think that Chad is the type of player that you want on your team.

How about Jerry Porter form the Raiders? He's a DC native and physical specimen at 6'2" 220lbs. Also on defense Tommy Kelly 6'6" 300lbs DE from the Raiders who got hurt and is available.

The trouble is it's tough to tell when it's a joke or not. Some people really do throw out the vet minimum thing anytime a players name comes up.

Next time throw in a ;) so we know you're joking.

his current contract is undervalued for his play, and getting him in a trade means we don't have any bonus money on our books, making the contract cheaper (And then you can extend and convert and keep a lot of free cap space this year to get briggs)... more than likely he'd want a new contract, but either way, for a 2nd, he'd still be worth it. Moss, TO, CJ... those are real difference makers at WR, and if he's up, he's worth fighting for, especially since we got the rest of the offense squared away now.

Walker is damaged goods bud. A good receiver no doubt, but injury prone. Get a tall young stud via the draft and at a cheaper price and we should be fine. I almost think we should go after 2 of them in the mold of Plaxico Burress or Marques Colston. We need tall guys tht can outjump or leap any CB.
