Rather than a longwinded post I'll just ask for some opinions on the season that was... Weigh in on your...

[B]Best on field moment[/B] Portis's TD against Dallas. At that moment I knew we were going to the playoffs..

[B]Worst on field moment[/B] The dreaded 2nd timeout against Buffalo.

[B]Offensive MVP[/B] Cooley was everything he was supposed to be.. Portis is a close 2nd..

[B]Defensive MVP[/B] London Fletcher, he brought it all together..

[B]Offensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08[/B]Campbell's continued development

[B]Defensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08[/B] Landry becoming a Pro Bowler

[B]Offensive Player who surprised you (good & bad)[/B]Good-Stephon Heyer.. I think we have a starter or at least a STRONG back up for years to come.. Bad-Ladell Betts.. He was largely invisible all year..

[B]Defensive Player who surpised you (good & bad)[/B]Good-Anthony Montgomery seemed to come from nowhere to have a solid season.. Bad-Kedrick Golston-I was expecting a breakout season and for him to go to the next level but he was pedestrian or inactive too often.

[B]Non Redskin player I'd like to see in a Redskins Uni next year[/B]1. Chad Johnson, 1A. Lance Briggs

[B]Best on field moment[/B]: Stopping Dallas on 4th down to clinch the Week 17 win and go to the playoffs

[B]Worst on field moment[/B]: Collins to Trufant Pick-6, where one is not certain what Santana Moss was thinking

[B]Offensive MVP[/B]: Clinton Portis. 3rd in the NFC in Rushing Yards, 2nd in TDs, continued pass protection, and added depth as a check down receiver. Cooley is a close 2nd for his efforts in becoming a Top Tier TE.

[B]Defensive MVP[/B]: Laron Landry. Did an incredible job as strong safety early in the year, and transitioned into the centerfielder that should be the cornerstone of GDub's defense for years to come. Fletcher is a close 2nd.

[B]Offensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08[/B]: Jason Campbell. With another offseason under his belt, and the time he watched Collins run the offense, there is no excuse not to let him loose next year.

[B]Defensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08[/B]: Landry. See if a full year at free safety will put him in the Pro Bowl.

[B]Offensive Player who surprised you (good & bad)[/B]
Good: Todd Collins. No doubt, incredible that he was able to knock off 10 years of rust that quickly and lead the Skins into the playoffs
Bad: Casey Rabach. Had probably his worst year as a Pro this year, hopefully he bounces back.

[B]Defensive Player who surprised you (good & bad)[/B]
Good: Fred Smoot. His emergence in the 2nd half of the year leads me to believe that this is going to be a stellar secondary next year with Rogers back.
Bad: No one player truly sticks out. This defense really stepped up this year. Maybe John Eubanks, but it's not completely fair to single him out when he's a 5th option at best, and you ask him to cover the fastest man in the NFL.

[B]Non Redskins player I'd like to see in a Redskins Uni next year[/B]: Terrell Suggs. Could use a blitzing DE to compliment Carter.

[B]Redskins player I'd like to see in another uni next year[/B]: I'd say B. Lloyd but I'd like to see him doing anything but play football...

[B]Best on field moment:[/B] Springs' first interception against the Bears. That was just the spark this team needed.

[B]Worst on field moment:[/B] Seeing 10 men on the field against Buffalo. It was a touching moment true, but still broke my heart not to see #21 out there where he belongs

[B]Offensive MVP:[/B] Clinton Portis. Beyond the stats, the way he took charge amidst the Sean Taylor tragedy (including the painful task of informing everyone) showed me that he's a leader.

[B]Defensive MVP:[/B] London Fletcher. One of the best free agent signings of any NFL team this offseason. Maybe even the best

[B]Offensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08:[/B] Jason Campbell.

[B]Defensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08:[/B] Shawn Springs. Love to watch him play and I hope it's still in a Redskins uni. I think it will be.

[B]Offensive Player who surprised you (good & bad)[/B]
Good: Todd Collins. 'Nuff said.
Bad: Todd Wade. I thought he'd at least be serviceable.

[B]Defensive Player who surprised you (good & bad)[/B]
Good: London Fletcher. Didn't think he had a full season of excellence in him
Bad: David Macklin. Why was he even here?

[B]Non Redskins player I'd like to see in a Redskins Uni next year:[/B] Julius Peppers...or Aqib Talib

[B]Redskins player I'd like to see in another uni next year:[/B] Rick DeMulling

[B]Worst on field moment:[/B] Watching Jon Jansen's leg break against the Dolphins.

[B]Offensive MVP:[/B] Clinton Portis. He's by far the best blocking RB, and showed us that he can still run it effectively and catch passes.

[B]Defensive MVP:[/B] London Fletcher. He has become a leader on the ENTIRE team. Not just defense. One of the best offseason moves this franchise has made.

[B]Offensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08:[/B] This is easy. Jason Campbell

[B]Defensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08: [/B] Anthony Montgomery. I think he made some great strides this year. Now he can focus on his strength and conditioning in the offseason. I can see him being a stud for us next year.

Good: Stephon Heyer
Bad: Todd Wade

Good: Anthony Montgomery
Bad: Carlos Rogers. I know he got injured, but he still was having the same issues as last year.

Really? I didn't see Rabach struggling mightily. I actually think you're pretty far off the mark here. Not to saw JLC is the best football guy in the world, but he obviously watches this team pretty closely and here is what he said:

"So, with everything wrapped up, thought I would give out some MVPs:

Offense: Casey Rabach. Thought about Samuels and Collins here, but went with the center. Held a patchwork offensive line together for the most part and fought through a crazy painful groin tear in remarkably short order. Had he missed more time I don't think there's anyone they can even make this playoff run. The guard play was pretty suspect at times and I thought Casey was the glue guy on that side of the ball."

I don't know if I'd go so far as to make him the offensive MVP, but what JLC says jives much more with what I saw on the field than saying that Rabach "had his worst season as a pro."

Yeah I didn't see Rabach struggling either. He's always pretty solid.

I agree with JLC's point about Rabach being the glue that held the line together during some tough times.

Yeah, I read what Jasno wrote about Rabach after writing this...

To me (and I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time) Casey seemed to struggle a bit down the stretch. For some reason the penalties he received stick out to me more than anyone else on the O-Line. It surprised me that he struggled a bit since he's always been a rock on the line.

But like I said, I could be coming way out of left field...I can't wait for Rabach to anchor next year's line.

[B]Offensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08[/B] Clinton Portis. I love the guy. I love his game. I want so badly to see him play a good chunk of games with a healthy, talented OL.

[B]Defensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08[/B] LaRon Landry. He showed a similar skill set to Taylor against Seattle. He can cover as much ground as a center fielder as Taylor, just doesn't hit quite as hard.

[B]Offensive Player who surprised you (good & bad)[/B] Good - Todd Collins. I assumed he'd be an okay backup, but I couldn't have imagined him playing that well when we needed him most. Bad - Santana Moss. I love him. I think he has so much ability. But, he had arguably his worst game of his career (GB) and just couldn't stay healthy. I miss the 2005 Moss.

[B]Defensive Player who surpised you (good & bad)[/B] Good - LaRon Landry. I figured he'd be okay, but he was excellent. Bad - Carlos Rogers. I'm losing faith that he'll ever live up to his draft position.

[B]Non Redskin player I'd like to see in a Redskins Uni next year[/B] Roy Williams...the WR, not the pitiful Cowboy S. There have been rumblings that he wants out of Detroit.

[B]Redskins player I'd like to see in another uni next year[/B] Brandon Lloyd. Not sure how there can be another answer here.

I honestly don't even recall him picking up any penalties. I'm sure he did get flagged a few times this year, but nothing sticks out to me at all.

[B]Best on field moment[/B]: Moss's TD at the end of the second dallas game. I know the game was already in hand, but I was so proud of the team at that moment and I really thought we were a scary team going into the playoffs.

[B]Worst on field moment[/B]: Missing the kick on Saturday and just sensing at all our momentum was gone in a flash.

[B]Offensive MVP[/B]: Clinton Portis. I love the way he plays the game. I hope he keeps it up in '08.

[B]Defensive MVP[/B]: Fletcher. For the most part, it was like we had an extra coach out on the field, which was great since we played a lot of young guys on D.

Good: Todd Collins. I thought he was nothing more than an older Jim Sorgi at first. Glad I was wrong. Bad: Honestly, Sellers was bad enough at times that I'd have to give him the nod here. He had his good moments, like against the lions, but then he got routinely stuffed on 4th and short down the stretch.

Good: Reed Doughty. He's obviously no Sean Taylor but I think he did the best we could've hoped for after such a huge tragedy. Bad: I guess Macklin, because I was under the impression that he was going to be a really good nickle or dime for us and yet I don't think I ever heard his name.

[B]Non Redskins player I'd like to see in a Redskins Uni next year[/B]: Chad Johnson might be fun.

[B]Redskins player I'd like to see in another uni next year[/B]: If we could get something or someone good for Betts I'd love to take it because I'm not his biggest fan. He's not terrible, but I'd get rid of him to upgrade elsewhere if possible.

[B]Best on field moment[/B]: Sellers steamrolling a safety after catching a pass. In a lackluster year for Mike, that stood out.

[B]Worst on field moment[/B]: The second timeout.

[B]Offensive MVP[/B]: Clinton Portis. Cooley was a close second, and I don't know why Rabach's getting grief, but Portis not only ran hard and caught well, but he helped pick the team up after the loss of Taylor with his leadership and performance.

[B]Defensive MVP[/B]: Is it cheating to say Sean? He was clearly the best player we had for the 9 games he played.

[B]Offensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08[/B]: I hope Jason learned what this offense can do by watching Todd this year. It'll be fun to watch if Campbell's athleticism is paired with Collins' decision-making.

[B]Defensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08[/B]: Dirty Thirty.

[B]Offensive Player who surprised you (good & bad)[/B]
Good: Lorenzo Alexander. Not only because he wasn't an offensive player, but he became an important part of our offense, making on the field when experienced O Linemen didn't.
Bad: Ladell Betts. I thought he could be productive in limited duty.

[B]Defensive Player who surprised you (good & bad)[/B]
Good: Reed Doughty. Big shoes to fill, and did so well.
Bad: Tough call. Maybe Ked Golston, but I think his relegation to backup was more because Montgomery stepped up.

[B]Redskins player I'd like to see in another uni next year[/B]: B Lloyd. Good luck to you, but this didn't work out well at all.

great post. i pretty much agree with everything you said, but i rather see a DE instead of briggs... jared allen maybe? it's not a great FA class :/ we could always draft one though... the draft does have good DE talent this year.

best moment would have to be the entire run to the playoffs. I really was surprised how calm i was after the loss... i guess the team proved enough that I was really impressed with the season anyways. We had crazy injuries early and we weren't going to clinch a superbowl like that, but getting there meant a lot.

that 2nd timeout basically meant we got the seahawks instead of tampa, which means 1 and out.... poop.

[B]Best on field moment[/B]: Collins to Yoder against the bears. it was a classic, backup to backup connection. loved seeing it, and we needed it. (especially after what had happened the week before...see below).

[B]Worst on field moment[/B]: Tie between the inability to score on the on the goal line against the giants at home, and the duel timeout fiasco.

[B]Offensive MVP[/B]: Collins, without him, this season is a major disappointment, Gibbs gets lambasted all off season, perhaps we embark on an ambitious rebuilding regiment, basically his play bought us time and made the season exciting.

[B]Defensive MVP[/B]: Fletcher. It is clear that Williams defense just doesn't work without a savvy middle linebacker.

[B]Offensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08[/B]: Campbell and Randy Thomas.

[B]Defensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08[/B]: Landry. (and the DE we draft).

[B]Offensive Player who surprised you (good & bad): [/B]
Good: Heyer.
Bad: Betts and Lloyd

Good: Reed D.
Bad: Rogers (only because of his high draft status, plus i'm not a believer.)

agree, I think casey played well, kept a very inexperienced line in check. the only thing you can knock him on is his tendency to get pushed back on clear run plays..

[B]Best on field moment:[/B] Landry's jarring hit on Kevin Curtis to seal the eight point victory over Philadelphia. Either that or Campbell's TD to Cooley to close out the first half.

[B]Worst on field moment:[/B] Brian Westbrook's 52 yard screen pass reception to beat us in the last game Sean ever played in.

[B]Offensive MVP:[/B] Jason Campbell/Todd Collins. The Quarterback play on the whole this year was exceptional. Collins was better than Campbell, but let us not forget how well Jason played in only his 3rd season.

The Quarterback is usually going to get the offensive MVP because he has the most chances, and when the running game struggles as much as it did this year, it's really a simple choice.

[B]Defensive MVP:[/B] Sean Taylor/London Fletcher. Taylor was the MVP for the the first half of the year, Fletcher was the 2nd.

[B]Offensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08:[/B] Campbell.

[B]Defensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08: [/B]Carlos Rogers/whoever we draft. Rogers, I though, was really having a great year before his injury. With the age on this defense, I expect our highest defensive draft pick to start from day one.

[B]Offensive Player who surprised you (good & bad)[/B]
Good: Stephon Heyer
Bad: Casey Rabach. I know your role changes when you are playing next to Fabini instead of Thomas, but my god, I think 50/50 lives once more, and he's manifested himself in lineman form.

[B]Defensive Player who surprised you (good & bad)[/B]
Good: Randall Godfrey. In the face of injury to both OLBs, Godfrey stepped right in and ate up runners every play. Andre Carter gets an honorable mention.
Bad: Cornelius Griffin. He was playing great at mid year, but from that point on, we lacked a competant 2nd force in our pass rush after Carter. Griffin was great early on, but he's not all that valuable if he loses his explosiveness by every November.

[B]Non Redskins player I'd like to see in a Redskins Uni next year:[/B] Brian Kelly, CB, Tampa Bay

[B]Redskins player I'd like to see in another uni next year:[/B] Brandon Lloyd. Oh god get this guy out of here. The 53 man roster card gently weeps at night.

[B]Best on field moment: [/B] London Fletcher's pick-6 against Arizona. That was the loudest I cheered all year. Jumped off the couch for that one.

[B]Worst on field moment: [/B] Getting stopped on the goal line against the Giants in Week 3. That also killed the throwbacks I liked.

[B]Offensive MVP: [/B]Clinton Portis. Stat-wise, another huge year but even beyond that, his blocking, leadership on and off the field, especially after Sean's death. He SHOULD be the NFL MVP, he's truly the most valuable player. Without him on the field, the team can't succeed. Ask the QBs laying on the field if the team needs him for more than scoring TDs.

[B]Defensive MVP: [/B]London Fletcher. He stepped right in and took over the defense as a vocal leader. Watching, you'd think he was a Redskin all his career.

[B]Offensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08:[/B] Jason Campbell. He'll continue to improve.

[B]Defensive Player I'm looking forward to watching in '08: [/B]Laron Landry. He's making big plays and also rookie mistakes. His rookie year looked so similar to Sean Taylor's. Hopefully he can step in and fill the void.

[B]Offensive Player who surprised you (good & bad):[/B]
Good: Antwaan Randel El. He was our #1 WR most of the year.
Bad: Ladell Betts. Horrible on the goal line, in blocking and still fumbles. He went from being some other team's possible starter to someone I don't want to see on the field in any meaningful situation.

[B]Defensive Player who surprised you (good & bad):[/B]
Good: Rocky McIntosh. I knew he would be good, but not THIS good THIS soon.
Bad: Sean Springs. He had his great plays, but got burned more often. He's declining.

We seem to have good luck recently in drafting DBs, especially safeties.

I say we draft another one, maybe that kid from Miami.

It's early, but most draft projections have Kenny Phillips getting drafted somewhere between #11 and #19.

Re: Ed Reed. No way can we afford him. He's got to get the biggest contract for a safety, ever... I think last year's ridiculous (ridicules) spending on some average players has really inflated the market. I'd be surprised if we sign anyone with upside left.

if kenny phillips fell to us, i wouldn't be too upset to see him in a redskins uniform. we need a DE to replace daniels though, line depth, and a stud WR would be VERY nice (but i think CJ is the only real choice there, unless randy moss is stupid enough to test FA).
