Who is Next?
Alright guys who will be the next coach? I want Cowher and I think it will be him. Mike and Mike are saying Pete Carrol could be a possibility I don't want a college coach. Who do you guys want, and who do you think will be the next coach?
|
Re: Who is Next?
I really hope Snyder doesn't hit "re-set" for the whole team now.....PLEASE keep this in house w/ G. Williams. Between all the young players and other crap this tem has been through, bringing in someone new could really throw a wrench in the gears.
|
Re: Who is Next?
Apparently, there is no clause in Gregs contract that he gets paid if he is not named head coach.
|
Re: Who is Next?
COWHER. Hands down. Keep GW as defensive leader.
|
Re: Who is Next?
I hope that it will be either Greg Williams or Al Saunders. I have a bad feeling about this. I kind of think that it could be Dick Vermeil or Mike Martz. I really think that a coach was already lined up when Gibbs stepped down.
|
Re: Who is Next?
HERE WE GO AGAIN, SNYDER AT HIS BEST. If it's not Grilliams or Saunders I'm gonna be ticked
|
Re: Who is Next?
Please god don't go Cowher -- I don't understand why everyone blows smoke up his ass. When you're with a team for that luck, eventually a blind squirrel finds a nut.
This has to go to Greg Williams -- Keep Saunders around as OC with full control of the offense, promote Blache to ass. HC Defense. It's already setup for a perfect transition -- do it. |
Re: Who is Next?
I hope it's GW. Al Saunders has no business being head coach.

Re: Who is Next?
Daeeal that would be perfect but nothing ever works out for us lately. I would be surprised if this happens. I do not want Cowher anymore! At first I did but we need somebody who we are familiar with.

Re: Who is Next?
What makes you guys think that GW can lead the complete team? The table is set to get in a proven coach-Cowher. Dont get me wrong, Williams has done wonders on the defense but look at Buffalo-he didnt seem to have it all. GW has had some questionable free agent pick ups too. lets not forget arch deluxe.
|
Re: Who is Next?
Greg Williams would keep some structure in place...and make the best head coach transition.
|
Re: Who is Next?
Also, can we finally get a proven GM. We desperately need one to get this ship back on course.

Re: Who is Next?
i think it will be g.w.i'm sure joe has told dan to hire him and that is why he is steping down.just keep everything in place and go from their.no need to change what this org.has in place but you never know.dan maybe will go out and get a big name coach.i see no need in all that but you know dan.please keep things in place and stop all the crazyness this team has been threw this year.

Re: Who is Next?
I really won't mind if its Cowher (who I want), Greg Williams, or Al Saunders. I just DON'T want a college coach no matter what or who it is.
|
Re: Who is Next?
A college coach would be no goodto our football team. I think GW could be great.
|
Re: Who is Next?
i think tom cruise is a good bet....
|
Re: Who is Next?
JoeRedskin: In comparison -- it is youth. I guess 'youth' isn't necessarily what I want but someone with lots of fire and drive -- something I felt Joe was missing. I think Williams has that, and I think Williams has certainly earned his shot.
|
Re: Who is Next?
I'd like to see Williams get the chance to take over for the sake of keeping some continuity going, and Blache stay on as DC. GW has earned a 2nd chance.
|
Re: Who is Next?
We sure as HELL do not need a complete new staff/system to "start all over" with! I am sure they will announce the new config.....quick. I imagine Joe has helped, and is helping to define the new org.
|
Re: Who is Next?
With GW as head coach, and knowing nothing about Offense -dont you think Saunders will be calling the shots on O-with that being said JC will most likely not be the starter coming out of training camp because obviously he is more comfortable with Collins. I dont agree with that decision, I would love to see JC lead this team. Then you guys are going to be hating on Saunders. All of it could have been avoided if you get a PROVEN veteran Coach (Cowher). There will still be continuity, we have the leaders of both sides of the ball still in place.
|
Re: Who is Next?
I think to hire anyone but Greg Williams would be an insult to Greg Williams. He has his thumbprint on that team already, they are moving in the right direction, and he desrves the shot. It has to be GW.
Not sure Cowher would be a good fit as HC. A defensive minded HC with a history in the 3-4. If Cowher comes in and Williams stays, it may cause some minor issues in defensive philosophies. |
Re: Who is Next?
If Snyder hires a college coach he might as well re-sign Deion Sanders,Bruce Smith and start this whole damn I'm a gillionaire with a play toy thing over again.
|
Re: Who is Next?
Take this with a grain of salt, but I just heard on the Junkies(local DC talk radio) that Gibbs is staying on as an advisor to help Snyder pick the next head coach. Gibbs top choice... Bill Cowher.
As I said, take it with a grain of salt, but one of the Junkies is close to an executive in the Redskins organization and he's usually right when tossing out rumors... |
Re: Who is Next?
I don't want Cowher. I think he is overrated and does not fit Washington very well. I don't really think Williams will be a success either, but I have to say the continuity piece is important. You have to keep Saunders for that to work though. Saunders proved once again that his system will work if you have capable players(Collins) to execute it.
|
Re: Who is Next?
I would like the team to promote Greg Williams to head coach, retain Al Saunders as assistant head coach - offensive and promote Greg Blache to assistant head coach - defense. This would maintain continuity in both offense and defense. Unfortunately, if Greg Williams is promoted, I would be surprised if Al Saunders stays. If Dan Snyder decides to go another way, please do not hire a college coach. I would prefer a veteran head coach with winning experience. I like Bill Cowher. I hate Mike Martz as a head coach but as an offensive coordinator, he is ok.

Re: Who is Next?
What about Urban Meyer? JK.
Knowing Snyder's style, I think a lot of this will come down to internal interviews with star players and team leaders. If they give GW the endorsement you have to think it will be him. If they give Snyder any ammunition at all to justify going for the big hire he will take it and run with it. I have said this in other threads but Cowher, while obviously a good man and great coach, seems like the kind of hire that's doomed to fail. He is going to want full control first of all. Second it will constitute a complete deconstruction of the current coaching infrastructure, as he'll certainly bring his boys with him. Finally, and most importantly, the local expectations will go through the roof, incommensurate with the team's talent level. As was the case in the past, that's a recipe for disaster. |
Re: Who is Next?
Whoever gets the job,I just hope like hell Jason C. will be the starter next yr.
Gonna be hard enough for him and all the players to adjust to this ongoing soap opera, but to take his job away sure would mess with his development and his mindset. |
Re: Who is Next?
If its anyone besides GW all the assistants will be gone. He will want his own guys.
|
Re: Who is Next?
Since it's nothing but speculation and conjecture, I'll throw out a name.. Steve Mariucci.. He's coached in the NFL with some success (playoff teams in SF), has some success in developing QB (was Favre's QB coach during Super Bowl and multiple Pro Bowl years, Garcia was a Pro Bowl QB and multiple times to the playoffs) and is popular amongst his players.. You can't hold Detroit against him, nobody wins in Detroit. Other than continuity, why not Mooch?

I could live with that. |
Re: Who is Next?
Mooch is a good coach -- but I still want Williams.
|
Re: Who is Next?
I wouldn't hate it if Cowher was the guy... but I would be disappointed from the standpoint that it would mean a new staff and probably some significant changes to the roster.
I'm tired of starting over every few years. At least with Williams it wouldn't be a total house cleaning. |

I agree,so long as williams lets saunders do his thing on offense, also i'm worried how well the team would accept somebody outside the organization right now.If williams is hired and it doesnt work out after a yr,I'd be for hiring cowher then if he was available |
Re: Who is Next?
We're all assuming that with Grilliams it wouldn't be a complete house cleaning. We don't know that for sure. We don't know what kind of offense he'd want to run. We don't know if he wants to keep the same philosophy on selecting players. We know he'd keep the defense mostly the same but if he's not coaching them 100% of the time we don't know how someone else will call the game.
We also don't know that Saunders will choose to stay. He came to coach with Gibbs because of their history. Remember, he was a head coaching candidate for the Raiders and Rams before he came to us for a boatload of $$$ and to coach with Gibbs. |
Re: Who is Next?
Knowing Gregg Williams is a loyalist, much as Coach Joe was, this may take the wind out of the sails of GW. The man who he had built the utmost respect for over 4 years and had shepherded the entire team through the death of Gregg's most talented and loved defensive player has left. However, also knowing GW to be a competitor with a history of head coaching experience, that part of me thinks he will lobby hard to earn the vacancy. No predictions from me about what Williams will decide to do. It could go either way.
I don't think the hiring of Cowher would negatively jolt this team. IMO, he would be a better OVERALL coach than GW. His track record and Super Bowl victory speak for themselves. Let's remember, too, that Pittsburgh was NOT a team that ventured out into the free agent market year after year and greedily pursued big names for big prices. I believe they built a blueprint much like the way the Skins are attempting to do now. Is Campbell the next Roethlisberger? No, that's an asinine thing to say. Campbell can be BETTER than Big Ben. Is Portis the next Bettis? Not even at 75 pounds lighter. But would he be able to help make the Skins' O efficient as Bettis (mixed with Parker) helped make the Steel Boys' O efficient? You bet. The defensive results would be consistently good. For the record, I voted for GW. But I wouldn't be seething at a new hire a la Cowher. |
Re: Who is Next?
Williams.

Re: Who is Next?
I want Jimmy Johnson or Schotty back.
