How long until we are in another superbowl?

I'm really proud of how the skins played out the season and handled all the adversity; whether injuries, sean taylor, having to win 4 in a row with TC, etc. I think that we have only a few holes to cover and we could be in a Super Bowl. Right now, I honestly think that we could beat any team in the NFC,at their stadium. We played every NFC play off team this year at least once. We played on the road of each team also!!! I think the NFC is open ground next year. Realisticly, we are maybe a year or 2 away with some luck. How far do you think we are from a trip to a super bowl?

If we keep the team together (coaching and most players comeback) have a nice draft (DE,OL,CB,WR) sign a few FA. We could be in it next year as long as they build momentum from this year, it wouldn't surprise me.

Re: How long until we are in another superbowl?

I think we've got the makeup of a winner and we showed we can compete with every team in the NFC. But if we bring in an outsider to coach, all bets are off, and I think we'll suck next season. We've got a good thing going and need to keep the same system. We're basically stuck with the players we have (cap reasons), so a new coach is going to be limited in his ability to overhaul the roster to his liking. The only way we're close is if we hire G Williams, Al Saunders, or bring in a guy who'd keep Williams and Saunders.

Not until this team gets a GM.

Re: How long until we are in another superbowl?

The team is at least a couple of years away from a SB appearance. Until the defense can apply consistent and effective pressure on opposing quarterbacks they do not have much of a chance (for reference, see game film of Trent Edwards carving up the secondary). In addition, better play from Campbell in clutch situations is a must for a SB caliber team.

I see no reason why this group, no matter who coaches it next year, cannot return to the playoffs, perhaps even have a good enough record to host a game!

Re: How long until we are in another superbowl?

If GW gets the job... (which he will, i really can't see Gibbs letting "The Danny" hire outside the group) and Al S. stays on as OC I really think that Collins will win the position at QB and Al S. will run a pretty tight offense leaving GW to focus on the D therefore I believe playoffs in 2008-09…. maybe up to the NFC championship. 2009-10 Superbowl season. Usually I'm a "glass half empty" kinda guy but there's just something telling me that this is all going to shake out to be something exciting for quite a few years. "The Danny" got the taste of blood in his mouth now and is ready to "sit still" and wait for the kill rather than run around like a maniac trying to catch it in full stride.

The only reason I see Collins behind center next year instead of Campbell is the simple fact that Collins know the Al S. system and will groom Campbell to be the man for the future.

Re: How long until we are in another superbowl?

(This should be a poll...)

It now depends on whether the Skins hire from within (G-Dub) or outside the organization. If G-Dub becomes the head coach, it's feasible that the Skins are in the Super Bowl within the next 3 years. However, if an outsider is brought in, it's going to be longer.

But, it will all stem on how the personnel decisions are made...there is no doubt that the next coach is going to have some say in who comes and goes, however, not as much as Gibbs did. We pray that Snyder and Cerrato did learn a thing or 2 from Gibbs.

I agree w/all here who think that keeping this team & staff intact as much as possible is the key to success next year & beyond.

That said, we can get to the super bowl next year, but we'd likely be a 2 TD underdog against the best afc team. A year after that is too far away to predict in today's nfl IMO, especially for a team w/a lot of vets that may be on or close to their way out.

Is that supposed to be like the kiss of death or something? haha...no, I think you could be right depending on who's coach

Re: How long until we are in another superbowl?

For me, it's easy to say one or two years as easy as it is to say fifteen years. It seems that every year, EVERY team in the conference gets better to where there is no clear winner. Basically the formula for success is like this: field a good enough team for a playoff bid, avoid as many injuries as possible and then make sure you don't shit the bed during the playoffs.

To me, aside from the Pats, it almost seems like ANY team that's .500 or above could win it. It's a good and bad thing for me that you basically can't make any good predictions on who wins the Super Bowl every year.

It's a Mod thing...PM one of the Mods and see if they'll add one. Or perhaps one of them will just stumble upon this thread and create one...

I'd like to think we have a good chance next year. I think I said in another thread, it's like the pieces are there but they don't quite fit together and we're still missing a few. If we can address those things this off-season, I think we have a good chance at at least another playoff spot next year.

I agree the pieces are there too. I also believe any half descent coach that gets the job (hope it's G Williams) can make this work with what Gibbs left.

Danny,Danny,Danny scares the hell out of me tho. I truly hope he wasn't smoke screening when he said how much he learned from Joe. Especially the part about patience.

If you ask Snyder-next year.

If you ask Len Pastabelly-never.

If you ask me-somewhere in between.

Re: How long until we are in another superbowl?

Until the inevitable changes to this roster are made and we can check out which players we gained and which players we lost, I don't think it's possible to gauge our SB chances for next year at least, to say nothing of the future. We were all excited about how this team finished and how it looked against some quality opponents down the stretch, but a number of players on this current squad will not be returning, and it would be fantasy to assume that we're only going to lose ones we don't want and will replace them with equal or higher quality players. Yes, the team has a solid core, but it's also not dominant at any position, which means that the offseason changes will be critical, and only then will we have a decent view of its SB chances.

Re: How long until we are in another superbowl?

A lot depends on our coaching staff next season. I do believe if we keep the same core group of guys, add another really good WR and upgrade both lines, we have a shot in a year or two.

All depends on who we get as head coach though. If we get someone totally off the wall who comes in and shakes the roster up, it could be another 5 years or more.
