Early Season Predictions??
 
Anyone care to make a bold prediction on this season results....?

I for one have high hopes, but only for the Skins to improve from last season. I see no run at the playoffs or anything better than 8-8 or 9-7.

Here's my take on the season:

QB - Brunell will start, but not finish. Ramsey will debut & not finish. Hasselbeck will come in & light the fire that sends the Skins a winning streak no better than 3 in a row.

RB - Portis should do well under Coach Gibb's system. However, I still see the line failing to open wholes that Denver bulldozed last season. So look for Portis to hit 1000+ yrds this season with a lower yards per carry avg. Rock should also improve upon last season under Coach Gibbs. Not sure if Chad figures into the mix, besides punt returns...

FB - This is Coach Gibb's favorite position, also see TE desc. Gibbs uses the FB/H-back to open the running game, fight the blitz, & a QB's last option if he decides to run for it or thrown a quick out. Not sure who's going to be that guy yet...?

WR - So far I see Rod having a great season no matter who throws him the damn ball. Coach Gibbs has made good WR's great with his staff in past seasons, so he will make Coles & company very effective. Does anyone remember the Posse..? I sure you all do :)

TE - In Coach Gibb's system the TE is nothing more the a utility lineman with some offensive plays designed to utilize deception.

O-line - Well with Jansen out for the season. The O-line will certainly have to adjust. I'm sure Brunell has some concerns now that his stone wall is not there..? I like Wiley & Thomas to help out in Jansens absence. Kenyatta is also someone that might be effective.

Defense -
Rather than single out positions, I will just say this....

D-line is unproven & overmatched. LB's will have to provide the majority of the pass rush & run stop. I like the secondary, but I'm not banking on Lott & Bowen to keep us in the game late. Taylor will show flashes of excellence, but this is a rookie & mistakes are expected. Smoots & company will have a good season, but with oversized WR's like Owens the secondary will have it hands full. Note: When & if Taylor plays to his hype we will finally have a S that WR/TE/QB/RB will fear :FIREdevil

10-6.

Gibbs bends the team to his will and they perform beyond their talents.

Bugel gets the most from the O-Line and Portis runs wild.

Our D secondary becomes the most feared in football, WR's don't want to go there.

We make the playoffs only to go out in the first round due to dubious calls from the men in black and white.

10-6. But only if Portis is injury free and Jansens' replacement can get the job done. And only if there's no more injuries to the Oline.

10-6, 9-7, or 8-8. I'll be happy with any of those results. 9-7 seems more realistic to me though.

Brunell will start, but I think Ramsey will eventually play and play well.

O-Line will step up without Jansen, but they will stuggle at times.

Taylor. Like I said before will be the rookie of the year. Overall defense will improve and surprise a lot of people.....yes guys I am serious.

Portis will have another good season.....hopefully over 1500 yards, and 15 td's.

Gardner will step up and have one of his best seasons. He could be one the top possesion receivers in the NFC. Coles will be Coles making big plays and provide a spark for the offense.


Last but not least.......WE WILL SWEEP THE COWSHITS THIS SEASON!

I see 9-7. It's year one of Gibbs Pt II and I think it will take some time for the players to really get what's going on.

Offensively I expect Brunell to start, but Ramsey will play at some point and play well. The offense is really qb friendly, see Schroeder & Rypien, and Portis will continue to dominate. I think the line will be fine, we will miss Jansen but I think it's a chance for the unit to play better as a whole.

Defensively, I think the d line is solid. We will definitely be better against the run, and if we become a better tackling team then I see us being a top ten defense. If Dallas can be the #1 defense with Ellis and Ekuban, then we can do it with the guys we have. Sa'alvea did a credible job Monday night, we add Noble to the mix and suddenly you have a pretty good tackle rotation. The back 7 are stacked, Springs will have two tds this year on picks.

I think it's important to stress that this is a new system for these guys & coach Gibbs will be playing catch up this entire season.

So going 8-8 would in my eyes be perfect. Anything more would be amazing.

I'm looking forward to Coachs 3rd season & when I think we will be in position to really challenge for a championship. :thumb:

Honestly, I am thinking playoffs. Maybe not deep into it, but I'm thinking we go this year. We just have way to much talent and too good of a coaching staff, in my opinion. I do think the fact that its a new system is gonna hurt us though, so we'll see. If we go 8-8 or 9-7 , as long as its a soild season I'll be happy. Not some B.S. 8-8 like in 2000.

Gibbs puts the onus on special teams, defense, and running the ball.

With the respect he commands and the discipline he demands, I think this is a basic (but often neglected) equation that leads to wins.

10-6 all the way.

8-8 would be disappointing.
9-7 would make me happy.
10-6 would make me ecstatic.
11-5 would bring me closer to god.

My prediction is 9-7.

10-6, 9-7, & 8-8 are all pretty good 1st season results for Gibbs to pull for, but the reality is 8-8 & under. I'm not wishing the Skins a bad season. I'm just looking at the team & realizing that it's gonna take another season before this system takes off.

I'll predict 10-6 when the skins have a true QB named going into camp. Until then.... 8-8 is the best I can do....

The Good:
1. Ramsey starts by week 4.
2. Portis gets 1,500 yards with 4.5 yards per carry (he's no longer facing KC twice a season).
3. Gardner bounces back for 1,000 yards on 70 receptions.
4. Shawn Springs has a great season.
5. Marcus Washington goes the the Pro-Bowl.
6. We go above .500 (9-7).

The Bad:
1. The D-line still can't get sufficient pressure on opposing QBs forcing us to blitz with the LBs more than we'd like to. The blitzing LBs leaves holes in our defense allowing big gains on simple RB-Flat passing plays.
2. Neither Brunell or Ramsey really shine, they're both just above-average, not spectacular.
3. Our special teams still can't play.
4. We miss the playoffs.

Somewhere between 8 and 11 wins is all I'm gonna say right now. I'd rather wait until the preseason is over to make more specific predictions, still need to see alot more to predict how things may go.

8-8/9-7, with a bumpy start as the O takes time to gell. We play meaningful games in December, but fall short of the wildcard.

Anything above 8-8 is a big success, given where we were last year and the big turnover in coaches and players. Plus, it will take some time for Gibbs and the old time brain trust to really figure it out. But when they do, I figure they will come up with some great plays to exploit the all-blitz, all-the-time defenses of today's NFL. Remember: Gibbs was 8-8 last time in his first year, and we know what happened next!

Gardner: our new Monk?
Look for Chad on third downs.
Will Cooley get in the mix?
Washington, Barrow, and Arrington: the real deal.
Taylor: Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate.
Brunell is the starter, mainly because of his veteran leadership. Watch how he talks to his teammates when he is on the field. Ramsey only if Brunell is hurt. No Tim.
No Name D-line does its job.
O-line is fine without Jansen; O-line is fantastic when he returns next year to lead us back to glory.

its impossible to really predict an exact number. because some games are evenly played and could go either way.

Like the rest of the people on the board, I think that the Redskins could win 8,9, or 10 games. 11 is wishful thinking.. maybe next year.

I am going to be conservative and say better than last year. lol
I think without this coaching staff we could go 8-8. With this staff I think it adds 2 more wins. So 10-6. It also varies how fast they can buy into the system and dont get into any ruts or loosing streaks. I guess I can't expect too much this year, but would beating the Cowgirls twice be asking too much? I think the line although will miss Jansen will be fine, even if they have to rotate a new tackle in each quarter.

OK I honestly make this prediction. It hangs in my office since they haven't been beaten this year yet.

When they have there 1st losss then my prediction will go to 15-1. I believe they will win and win again. If you all care to make predections which games do you think they will lose??

i'll go with 9-7 worst case but thinking 10-6 or better... coles, arrington, washington, portis, and smoot make pro bowl as primaries or alts, and taylor makes rookie of the year with about 2 billion picks... portis hits 1600 yds and 600 receiving, mccants and thrash show up for the important catches when needed...

hows that for optimism? no use hoping for a crappy year...

I think the start of the season we stugle as the O and D find thier feet. Only big play abillity of Portis, Arrington, McCants, Smoot and Taylor keep us competitive . Later on coaching spirit and excecution play a huge part and we have a good run down the stretch.

The X factor this year is Gibbs. Teams are closer inb terms of talent than in Gibbs first eara, and witrh the right schemes and adjustements nobody is going to be overlooking the Skins this time around and if we are not in the the playoff hunt we will certianly be in the spoiler role.

My predictions for the upcoming season are as follows:

1. Meadow will get knocked up. Her hippie boyfriend/fiance then will get knocked off.

2. A.J. will blow down the closet door. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

3. Carmela will pick up a nasty little smack habit and will be in a constant near zombie-like condition. She will be so inebriated that she will be completely and totally unable to bitch and moan the entire episode. Not really a prediction, but sounds good, doesn't it?

4. Dr. Melfi will finally come to her effing senses and run like the wind.

5. Paulie Walnuts will finally meet his maker when the Russian commando he lost in the Pine Barrens accidently runs into him with his car in the Piggly-Wiggly parking lot. Equally embarrassing, this happens just after Paulie finishes buying Depends for his ma.

6. Silvio, feeling the heat coming, will ditch for Mexico and offer protection for roughly 62.8% of all donkey show establishment owners in the three northern states of Chihuahua, Sonora, and the nothern Baja peninsula.

7. Junior will enjoy the pleasures of twice daily sponge baths by comely young lasses. Unfortunately, he won't remember a lick of it.

8. Adrianna and Chrissy will run away together and live happily ever after after she tells him about how she betrayed him and about the information she's been giving to the FBI and the wire she wore.

Or, maybe not.

9. And finally, Good 'Ole Tony. He'll get whacked in the final episode. Sad, ironic, a damn good thing for Jersey, prophecy fulfilling, call it what you will, but it's going to happen. Before you get pissed for me telling you this, be realistic. It's not like we didn't know it wasn't coming.

9-7 is also my best bet
I assume Brunnell will start but Ramsey will take over around midseason
Portis will be the man !!!!
LB's will make a good threat to every QB we will play
and kick the Cowboys a... twice in a season will be a wonderful experience.
