UFA-Corey Williams-DT
I like this guy. I think we should sign this guy and cut Griffin. Take a look. Maybe Greenbay lets him go. I think he will help Carter get more sacks, along with everyone else, because he will collapse the pocket.

Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
my mistake...I read the title wrong
but Griffin is still holding it down |
Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
Griffin is still very effective - why would you want to cut him?

6.5 million and 2.5 sacks. |
Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
Wrong!! This guy would cost more than Griffin and maybe be just as effective.

Not sure I understand this reply. I think he would probably be signed for similar money and he is alot better and younger. |
6.5 million and 2.5 sacks.
I don't measure a DT's effectiveness by sacks - I look at how many tackles my MLB is making. A big part of London Fletcher's success this season was the great interior play of Griffin and Montgomery. Any sacks from DT's are just a bonus.

Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
He just force Manning to throw the ball away. Keep an eye on him.

The guy is FA looking for big money, he's not going to sign at a discount. Griffin we'll redo his contract at a cap friendly price. We need a DE, CB, OL more than DT. |
Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
7 million is not a discount. Look at how Jansens restructure worked out for us. He has 4 years left and a huge cap number.

Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
Corey Williams wouldn't be a bad pickup but I like the productivity of Anthony Montgomery. Kedric Golston is solid as well. To be honest, I think Golston and Montgomery could hold down the middle of the line themselves. We need to relieve some cap space so I can see Griffin as a possible cap casualty. who knows....

Yeah, I like them also, but between both of them they had .5 sacks |
Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
they have shown promise though...we'll see I guess.

Wrong! Golston had 1 sack, and Montgomery had .5 sack, so make that 1.5 sacks between the two of them. |
Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
Corey Williams is intriguing, but I still think we're good with the Griffin/Montgomery/Golston rotation at DT.

Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
by the way the numbers are looking... even after restructures of contracts... we are going to have to let maybe 2 big names go and i think griffin will be one. its time to change that spot anyway, i love the guy, but he is on the tail end of his career and is certainly injury prone now. and with the 21 pick, i wouldnt discount us picking a DT in the first round like sims from auburn or balmer from unc if we are planning to cut grif.

CG has not played a full season since he got here! He isn't nearly as effective as he once was. He has to be rested, and he doesn't get the production anymore. This guy Corey Williams does look pretty good though. If we got him we would have to win a bidding war for his services. |

2 big names? If you're correct, seems Springs & Daniels would be the front runners to get cut, but Griff could easily be in that group too, like you said. |

Freddy - don't forget Brandon Llyod getting cut too. I think the first guy to be cut from the Redskins will be Llyod as he provides absolutely nothing to the Skins and I just don't see him here past March 1 as I don't see the SKins paying him his bonus due at that time. |
Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
The Packers are $25 Million under the salary cap, I'm sure they will re-sign him.
|
Re: UFA-Corey Williams-DT
One thing about the Packers, they are not agressive signing their players.

oh yeah, in my mind he's already cut!! Once he went on IR, it was like the team was cleansed or something. His name & absence deserve to be mentioned in the reasons for our late season surge. |
