Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
I still think ultimately Williams will be the choice, and I know if he is he'd like to make Schwartz his top assistant. On the offensive side of the ball, not sure what they're aiming for. But I get a feeling we could see some West Coast offense

Yes, it is always about me :) (I'm conveniently not mentioning that I was off the mark on Dungy) |
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
edo you think that fassel and al saunders can co exist or for that matter any head coach who is not greg williams can they co exist together
|
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Why Can't we just leave the effin offense alone and see how it can mature before we throw it under the bus again. I cannot stand another year of offensive woes due to a new system.
|
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Told you.:food-smil
|
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
I don't mind Fassel so much if Grilliams is appointed HC with him as OC.
That would actually make all the secrecy understandable since they would be telling Al Saunders that he'd be getting canned soon if they let it known that they were only interviewing Offensive coaches. |
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
I really hope that Cerrato and Snyder learned something from Gibbs... Saunders and Williams for atleast 1 more year. To do anything otherwise is extremely self defeating and as angryssg said "throwing it under the bus again."
Williams and Saunders for 1 more year!!! PLEASE!!! |

god, i hope your wrong, i think the west coast offense is the most boring offense ever invented, that, and then Campbell has another new offense to learn |

I don't know...didn't I read on here somewhere that one of the 6 or 7 offenses he's played was a West Coast offense? I figure when you've been though that many, at some point you have to circle back around...if that's the case, the learning curve shouldn't be as steep... |
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Please not Jim Fassell. He did have a SB trip w/ the Gmen but from my memory he had alot of mediocre Giants teams w/ average qb's. They were kind of like us at the time. They were going to make stupid mistakes, probably not alot of offense, and average/below average qb play.
That sounds like a coach i'd like to have!! I'll be really upset if this works out. My pick of course is GW, but i'd rather have Schwartz than Fassell, come on Snyder...this is getting stupid quick. |

West Coast offense???? If we change the offense around on JC then I'm going to drive over to Ashburn and call Snyder a dumbass. |
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Well i say if they do not keep Saunders, we might as well look for another qb also. mostly cuz this will be like the 8th different offense for Campbell in the last 9 yrs. of course Jason is gonna have problems.. WE NEED TO STAY AS WE ARE FOR OFFENSE.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
I'm just saying we might (and I'm completely speculating here) see some more elements of it seeing as to how Campbell was most successful playing under that system.
Four years ago, I would have easily said Fassel (of course that was before any of us had any idea about Gibbs). Now I'm not as sure. I think he's a very underrated head coach and has done some really good things as a coordinator, but a.) I really hope he's not a stopgap measure until Snyder gets the guy he wants (Cowher in 2009) and b.) well there is no b, just something about it doesn't feel quite right. |

I think with Fassel I get more of a sick feeling, like we're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. I almost get the idea that Snyder is overthinking this...like I said in another thread, he'll get a free pass if he hires Williams and fails. If he goes and picks someone outside the organization and we go something like 5-11 or 6-10...people will not be as forgiving |
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Fassel is too conservative. I thought he ran a boring system in New York and in Baltimore. He had sucess w/ the Giants but that was ages ago.
Leave it all alone and bring Al Saunders back. Why is that so hard for Snyder to see and do. 3 years under the same scheme with two very good QBs and a healthy offensive line with Portis and our guys we make a title run. He's going to fuck this up! Sorry just my opinion...... |
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Fassel is the kind of guy who is great as a head coach, but terrible as a coordinator!
I don't actually believe that, but I thought I'd mention it before someone else did. |
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
If you want a little over 50 coach okay
Dan Reeves is better than that I believe
ESPN - Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies - NFL
|
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
I am starting to think part of the reason Gibbs stepped down when he did is because he was sure Williams would be hired immediately, and that he wouldn't have done it, if he knew all this nonsense was going to take place
|
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to keep Gregg Williams in the interest of continuity and then change the offensive side of the ball. I just don't understand why Williams would change offenses.

Joe was out for the new NASCAR season to be with his family and work with his son. Saw Sean die and takes nothing for granted time wise. Couldn't wait any longer. I'm mad and upset he left but I have to respect that. Takes a few weeks but now I'm over it...........but Snyder is really dragging this out. |

that's not what he told me...haha...no, you're right, I just wonder how much he thought things were in place, and if he know there may be a shake up if he would have left so quickly |
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Fassel is okay with me if he can coexist with Grilliams.
|
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
fassel would be fine with me as a OC , for god sake he actually made kery collins a super bowl quarterback. he always did pretty well with the giants. got a good eye for talent as well. i believe he drafted shockey......i remember a few years ago before gibbs came back he was a candidate for the head coach position then

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Fassel's Record:
Fassel began his career with Assistant coaching stints with Utah State Univ. and Stanford Univ. Working with John Elway at Stanford. Also HC at Utah State. Long record of Offensive success, tutored Phil Sims and John Elway. Assistant with AZ, DEN, NYG, and Oakland. During Fassel's time as HC at NYG, his teams were known for numerous post-season runs in December, and for winning big games, such as the previously unbeaten Den. in 1998. 1997 NFL coach of the year, he resurected the career of K. Collins, and received acclaim for his "playoff guarantee" during the 2000 season, in which he led the NYG to an improbable SB appearance. However, his legacy as HC is mixed, Fassel's Giants were known for their disapointments against inferior teams during the regular season, as well as in the POs. The most notable loss was a shocking 39-38 loss to the 49ers in the '02 postseason, in which they blew a 38-14 third Quarter lead. During the '03 season, injuries decimated the NYG, and he was fired amidst some controversy. Before the 2003 season, Fassel, and his wife Kitty, were reunited with their son, John Mathieson, who they had given up for addoption in 1969. The couple was unmarried when he was born. Critics of Fassel have pointed out his lack of success in two seasons with the B-More Ravens. The Ravens had been near the bottom of the league in offense for both the '04 & '05 seasons. On Oct. 17, 2006, it was announced that Fassel was fired from his Ravens OC post. In '04, and '05, Jim & Kitty Fassel owned a Quizno's restaurant in Denville NJ, their son Brian was in charge of day-to-day operations. The store was sold in April '05, but still remains open. While coaching the NYG, Fassel and his wife resided in Ho-Ho-Kus NJ. Fassel current serves as as color coordinator on NFL Westwood One broadcasts. 1997- 10-5-1 1'st in NFCE. Lost to Vikes in 1'st rd. POs 1998- 8-8 3'rd in NFCE 1999- 7-9, 3'rd in NFCE 2000- 12-4, 1'st in NFCE, Lost to B-More in SB 2001- 7-9, 3'rd in NFCE 2002- 10-6, 2'nd in NFCE, Lost to SF in Wild Card 1'st round 2003- 4-14, 4'th in NFCE, Total: 58-53 as a HC Meanwhile, GW went 17-31 in Buffalo. The above extracted from "Rumors" thread in HailRedskins.com. |

Well he's a grown man with his own opinions. And maybe, in his opinion, "continuity" isn't going to help. Maybe, he wants to put his own imprint and philosophy on how he would like to run the team if he's head coach and not just follow the same pattern as his predecessor. |
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Well if we did change the O then people would have more excuses for JC next year.
|
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
I am so sick of starting over every 3-4 yrs. I mean really, this is getting fucking ridiculous.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Getting rid of Saunders means you pretty much render Todd Collins useless. He'd be a horrible QB in any system not reliant on timing, because his arm is a friggin noodle. The only reason he's successful is because he throws to spots before the WR breaks. If he's in an offense where he's got to throw during the break, or even after it, passes will get knocked down by DBs.
And if you render Collins useless, then we have no plan for backup QB. Brunell's contract is voiding, he'll be gone. If you don't have Saunders, you have no use for Collins. So then what? You have a young QB adjusting to a new OC, and a brand new backup coming in who's got to learn it as well. You have no master of the offense anywhere on your roster. It just reeks. Stick with Saunders. Changing the OC is the worst thing we can do. |
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
What's funny is the title of the article says "coaching vacancies" yet there is officially only one vacancy on the Redskins staff at the moment.
|
Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
And just from a philosophical point of view, if you're Dan Snyder and you're thinking of getting rid of Saunders, aren't you essentially saying you're not happy with the offense that's getting built here, by JOE GIBBS?
Getting rid of that which Gibbs put in place isn't exactly a ringing endoresment of the guy you brought back to save your franchise. Besides, show me a time when Jim Fassel has ever had an offense as potent as the one Saunders had in KC. I mean seriously. Sorry, I'm just getting very upset at the notion that we might gut our offense. |

Even before Gibbs stepped down there were rumors that Saunders could have been on the hotseat this offseason. |

Don't get to worked up becasue we really know nothing at this point other than the coaches he has interviewed. |

Don't you think it's likely that if we bring in someone from outside the organization that we're going to see alot of turnover on the staff? I can't see anyone coming in and looking around, going, "yep, looks good. Let's git 'er done." |

Isn't that the offense double G ran in Buffalo? Also, Campbell is familiar with this offense so hopefully the learning curve wouldn't be that big. |

Well I think whoever comes on board (internal or external) needs to take a hard look at that offense and ask "What do half of these guys do here anyway" Addition by subtraction, as they say. |
