Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
According to JLC's latest post on Insider, the Redskins assistants in Mobile for the Senior Bowl are getting ragged on by other team's coaches. Calling the Skins approach a "laughingstock." Great. Apparently our coaches are "up in arms," and distraught over this process and the lack of communication from the team. Anyone else think it's pretty lame that our front office hasn't even given our assistants the courtesy of a phone call during this head coach search? I know "freak out" threads are frowned upon, and that's not the intention here. But I'm pretty upset with the way we're treating our staff.
Clipped this from the post: Players and coaches are distraught over the poorly worded press release regarding Cerrato's promotion and Jim Fassel's emergence as a candidate with multiple interviews. They are taking a lot of grief from other team''s people down there and, according to some league sources, the word "laughingstock" is being thrown around in regards to how the team is operating. Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
Well that's just great to hear. I'm really missing Gibbs right now.:(
|
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
Well, the longer this drags out, rightfully or not, it's starting to become a PR nightmare.
|
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
I guess a phone call would be nice but what needs to be said that's not already known?
"Hey coach, we're still looking for a head coach. Talk to you later, bye." |
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
Does not make sense to me how they could say that. Sounds to me that lines of responsibility were clearly drawn with the promotion and that is a step in the the right direction.
I still think that one of the reasons why no "clear-cut" candidate has been identified is that candidate may still be on the staff of either the Patriots or Giants. Remember, that we are only allowed to hear only what the media wants us to hear. Take it with a grain of salt, but move on. Snyder may be waiting to talk to coaches from those staffs. Steve Spagnoulo of the Giants comes to mind. I may be wrong, but I think I am right in saying that Snyder is going about the process carefully and methodically to get just the right person for the job, the best one available. I would think he would like those lines of responsibility drawn prior to hiring a HC. IT just makes sense is all. |

What are our assistants little babies? LOL this is so stupid. I guess we should speed up the coaching process so our assistants feelings don't get hurt loll.
This is just general playground talk that always happens. It happens for employees of regular companies at conventions, students in schools where the teachers/dept is under some kind of trouble/change, etc etc. Thanks JLC for making our fans freakout even more for no absolute reason. |
The fact is Snyder can't win no matter what he does.
Not true. Snyder won when he hired Gibbs and Snyder won when he appeared to understand that continuity and building through youth would benefit this organization. Where he loses is when he forgets about Danny 2.0 and reverts to the flaws of Danny 1.0. |
The fact is Snyder can't win no matter what he does.
He "won" when he brought Gibbs back. He also did a great job with the handling of Sean's death. He's obviously not a bad guy, but he's convinced he knows what's best for the team, and history proves otherwise for the most part. I'm just sick thinking of our coaches working hard down there in Mobile and being mocked by other team's coaches. Ugh. Poor guys. |
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
I have been a supporter of Snyder in terms of what he does to try and put a winner on the field. He spends (sometimes unwisely) but ultimately it is him trying to win. Naming Ceratto the VP of football operations may be a good thing, recently he has shown the ability to get quality players in the later rounds of the draft. The fact this thing with the coaching search has drug on and on is laughable. if he screws this up by hiring someone other than GW he will lose a lot of the respect he has gained during the Gibbs 2 era. He preaches continuity but hiring anyone other than GW is a complete 180. the players, both offensive and defensive want GW, they want this staff, these players on the roster want to win for each other, and the coaching staff. If he botches this, not sure how much I can keep defending him.

Have you given any thought to the fact that maybe GW is the one screwing things up?? Or is Snyder to blame no matter what the circumstances. Does Snyder need to bow to any demand that GW has in order to maintain "continuity"? |

Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
I usually like JLC but I think he's being a bit over-dramatic here. The guys are "distraught"? C'mon, when Taylor died people were distraught, now they are pretty much annoyed and concerned with their futures.
As far as getting mocked, do you think it's any worse than the grief Falcons coaches are getting for them being used by 3 coaches or Ravens coaches for getting dissed by Garrett and hiring a special teams coach or former Dolphins coaches for their 1-15 season? They're adults, they will be ok. |
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
That article is pretty stupid if you ask me. Are we not talking about a bunch of grown men and not a group of 7th graders. So what other coaches are pointing at Redskin coaches while covering their mouths and laughing. Sounds like the reporters are tired of having nothing to report. So I guess the owner should call them every ten minutes and up date them so they can be named as the unidinified sorce for their information.

True. But remember that these guys are in Mobile scouting players who may be the future of this organization. Being worried about their jobs does nothing to keep them focused on the task at hand. |

If thats the case and they cannot handle it then maybe we do need some turn over. Oh, these hard working coaches are getting paid. |

I disagree. As professionals you have to put that doubt aside and do your job. If you get phased by something like coaching rumors you should probably not be working in the real world. It time to take the diapers off kids. |
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
how much of this can you blame on Gibbs? He really gave no notice. I have a hard time believing that he is "consulting Snyder to act in this way
I think Matty makes a good point regarding the possibility of GW possibly screwing things up, if by screwing things up he insists on a GM coming into the mix. If GW says he wont take the job unless a GM comes on board and Snyder is insistant that hinm and Vinny can do the jo then Snyder has a right to look for another HC canidate that will act as a puppet |
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
The fact is Snyder can't win no matter what he does.
Why is that so? Is that because him and GW probably just can't work things out? If GW wants to much control that he doesn't deserve yet, so be it. He's not the guy plain and simple. People will just have to understand that and get over it. I would love to see GW as our next HC but if he wants to much control, SEE YA! Hes not ready and does not deserve it. But do you then just settle for FOSSIL, and think thats a good idea? I don't, continue looking for a better candidate. IMO its not FOSSIL NO MATTER WHAT, Dans just settling on an old used up has been! |

Lol conspiracy-like theory. While it would be entertaining to think that is the case, it is most probably the fact that JLC and is running out of information to keep his blog up with the demands he is getting. That's why you report a smaller thing and blow it up to seem like a big deal. Gives him time until a coach is hired and makes the fans feel better. |
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
Hasn't Snyder learned his lesson with hiring ex-Cowboy or ex-Giant coaches or players. The Skins don't need their cast off garbage.

I dont know if GW is screwing things up, no one really knows that. I am going by what the NFL people are saying. which I think the majority of us are going by. The fact the players are wanting GW for continuity, familiarity, schematically should say something. Gibbs has endorsed GW for the next coach. again, this is hearsay, but a lot of NFL execs are questioning why he hasn't been named coach. Some feel that GW and Ceratto dont see eye to eye, so maybe thats it. But when the whole team, coaches, and hall of famer Gibbs feels this would be the best hire for the organization it is kind of hard not to feel it would be a mistake. I think a lot of us here want GW as the head coach. Me personally, am tired of taking 1 step forward, and two steps back. We did that after the 99 playoff season, then after the 2005 playoff season and i believe we would be taking a step back after this seasons playoff run by hiring someone from outside the organization. |

Are they going to focused on the task at hand or are they passing out their resumes? These guys haven't dedicated their lives to this organization and their loyalty will only go so far as their next paycheck. If it has to come from elsewhere, then so be it. That is the real world. |
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
So my question is, do you all think it's true? I mean, have we immediately reverted right back to "laughingstock" ways with the way we're handling this search? Was the announcement of Cerrato's promotion poorly timed? How could Snyder "accidentally" say Cerrato will have final say on the roster?
This is a circus IMO. And not just because we didn't hire GW. |

I still don't see how they are not professionals. A non-professional would not be scouting at the top tier of the sport. People in other jobs have to work their asses off when there are imminent layoffs. Do they complain, and get "hurt"? No they continue to work their asses off, and if they get fired it sucks but that is the REAL WORLD. If you can't deal with that kind of stuff then don't work for the Redskins. Simple economics IMO. |

It time to take the diapers off kids.
I don't think it says anywhere that they are "phased" by other coaches ragging on them. What they are "phased" by though, is the lack of communication from the front office during the process, and the poor timing and "mis-wording" of Vinny's promotion. Not to mention they are trying to focus on coaching at the senior bowl despite learning over the past few days that their future with the team is very much in doubt. They could be interviewing with other clubs, or at least preparing to. |

Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
I've heard on countless news/sports outlets that Joe is endorsing GW being his replacement.
|
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
To me, I'm not bothered by the assistants feeling "upset". What I'm bothered by is that coaches around the league are rumored to be thinking we're a laughingstock. Doesn't that tell you something?
Of course, other coaches are not in the know when it comes to interviews between Danny and GW. Maybe Danny thinks it won't work with GW. But it's never good when coaches around the league think you're a joke. |
The fact is Snyder can't win no matter what he does.
Who really cares about Snyder? Do you think Giants and Patriots fans are worried about the owners feelings or what he's up to? As a Redskins fan and Snyder its like he took a page from Jerry Jones. Who the hell cares about the Owner?? Just provide the best teams and win or don't charge all that money for game day. Dan, you need to learn from mistakes past, sorry your ego is so big but you're not a football guy. Giving Fassel the job would be just as bad as firing a coach who went 8-3 in his last 11 games after starting 0-5 for an unproven college asswipe. |

If Gibbs really want GW as the next coach and feels that strong then why wouldn't he say so in public and if Snyder worshiped him like everyone says then why would DS not just hire GW. |
Re: Redskins assistants upset and getting grief in Mobile
Here's another thing:
JLC is reporting that the Skins may try to go with Fassel as HC and Rex Ryan as DC. Just for a minute, let's pretend that this happens because it shows why the people down at the Senior Bowl are having a harder time doing their job since everything is in limbo. Rex Ryan runs a variation of the 3-4, and he would probably want to keep it that way if he came here. We don't really have the pieces to run that D right now so we'd have to bring in FAs and draft guys to fit it. Wouldn't it stand to reason that the style of D the Redskins want to run next year will determine the types of college players that we look to draft? Maybe this is a big part of the reason the guys down in Alabama are so upset. |

Pleas give us these sources and not a source that has a source that has a source etc... Its funny all these writers keep throwing out all these ideas of what is going on and once in a while get something right and they seem to forget all the things they miss on. |
