LOL! I should've known! |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
It looks like they are going to try to pull Josh McDaniels out of a hat.
|
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
So for all the Snyder bashers and the ones said he hs throwning away all Gibbs has done it looks as if Gibbs is right in the middle of everything going on right now.

Wrong, because in another article on WaPo it clearly stated that Williams had the support of Gibbs but Snyder was the one with the issues. Clearly Joe is being dispatched to once again sooth the people Snyder has irritated. |

Looks to me as if Gibbs is doing some dirty work for the Danny by calling coaches & trying to get them to chill. |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
It should've never amounted to this. To have Gibbs act as Snyder's surrogate on what should be now only Snyder's responsibility (the failure of the head coach selection process) is no way to regain the trust/faith from the assistants who've been left in the dark. It smells of nothing but a warm, folksy gesture from Danny Boy....I just don't think he could muster the guts to speak to the assistants himself.
As far as the impact this will have on the franchise (the longer wait), I'm not sure if it will be a net positive or negative. Of course, this does expand the field of candidates and allows management to mull over all the options a bit more. How much does it screw up the free agency signing period and Scouting Combine focus are unanswerable questions. I just hope we emerge from this as less of a laughingstock than perhaps we've just become again. |

He's the trasistioning head coach. He's being consulted but not involved in the interview process. He wants to leave on the up and up. |

Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
Doesn't this whole process send a message to our in house coaches. I gues they are not the first or second choice...but hang in there with me...if we can't our fourth or fifth choice then I will have you guys just leave your personal effects in your offices for another year. Thanks for your patience.
Sounds like a foolish way to go about hiring or promoting your own staff. |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
Josh has done nothing but call plays and watch Tom Brady and Randy Moss work.
|
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
Man, this should be a Poll!
a. Two Weeks b. Williams c. Fassel d. None of the above! |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
Also why is Gibbs doing any contacting of assistants? Is he doing this out of friendship?
He is no longer their head coach/co-worker. There is no professional relation between these guys anymore so who put Gibbs up to this??? ...Oh that's right our spineless owner. Grow some balls and do your job Snyder. Gibbs isn't there to bail you out anymore so quit using him as a goodwill messenger. |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
*sigh*
Would it be possible for the entire Redskins fanbase to band together and buy the Skins?...ah la the Green Bay Packers?...I'm sure at this point rank amateurs could do a better job at least in the PR department than Danny and Co. have.... |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
Look, this will just give us all more of a chance to develop our "sky is falling/I'm so angry/I hate__________" threads when they finally DO hire a coach.
The internet is making this all worse, I think. I'd rather NOT know all the insider dirt: I get enough of that at my work where we're trying to hire two new people. |

Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
If they are not going to hire Williams, then hire Schwartz, Singletary or Grimm. McDaniel will probably turn it down and I consider Spagnuolo a little less experienced than Schwartz, plus Spagnuolo has Eagle and Giants coodies.
Actually Spagnuolo has Redskins ties: Spagnuolo spent four months as a scout for the San Diego Chargers under then-general manager Bobby Beathard. His first NFL experience came in 1983 as an intern with the Washington Redskins under then-assistant general manager Charlie Casserly. |

Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
If it is true that fan reaction has given Snyder pause then that is just pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. If you are going to buck all conventional wisdom because your gut tells you to go a certain direction - against the wishes of the fans - then have the courage and fortitude to stand by that decision. If you think Fassel is the guy hire him and then let us deal with it. Prove us wrong.
If this is true - and that's an uncomfirmed if - then I have less confidence in Snyder than ever. |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
lets all remember that this info is coming from a Blog...and I'm not sure how this makes me feel about Snyder. I agree with what you're saying djnemo65, but maybe its just opening his eyes that he can't push around the fans anymore? One of the endearing qualities of Gibbs was that he loved the fans, and made all of us feel a little more important. Maybe he DID rub off on Snyder. Time will tell.
|
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
It's a horribly worded sentence. Clearly designed to give the impression (without any proof) that Fassel wasn't hired because some idiot fans threatened to sell their Redskins memorabilia.

Might as well just shut down the site until a decision is made. I'm not sure if I can take much more of the crying and pouting around here.

Well, can you at least block me so I can't access it until a decision is made? The obsessing is really unproductive and I keep coming back even though I know there is no new info. (just kidding ... sort of) |

As the administrator of this site, are you really surprised? ;) Reminds me of jazz story: John Coltrane played long, complex solos, while Miles Davis was the master of understatement and economy. Coltrane once asked Miles how to make his solos more concise and more likes Miles'. Miles replied, "Just take the horn out of your mouth." Though y'all may doubt me, if you don't look at the web for a few days, life is just fine! Wake me up when we have a coach. (Of course, I'll fail to take my own advice. What if I miss something REALLY important???) |

I don't care for the guy and certainly don't want him to be our next coach, but my irritation has less to do with him and more to do with how Snyder's handling this whole thing. The way that's worded, I'd be pretty embarrassed if I was Jim Fassel. |

Would love to hear how those conversations went..... |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
Seems like there is a lot of fan dissension about the hiring of Fassel as coach. A lot of the network news stations are starting to broadcast the public outcry.
I saw the piece about the Warpath during NBC's 6 o'clock news, pretty cool. Maybe all this nasty whining is not as useless as one might think. |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
The combination of the lack of good candidates out there and Snyder's indecision is making us look silly. Hey, let's get Fassel to interview twice despite knowing his hiring is totally contingent upon two assistants with extremely strong ties to each of their current teams, then pause and back off to wait for assistants on Super Bowl teams while possibly our best candidate and the rest of the current staff are totally up in the air about their future.
Not to mention a team that's been through a brutally tough physical and emotional season is left in limbo. An offense that has worked tirelessly through brutal injuiries to learn the "700 page playbook" and a D that has bonded and grown under GW in the face of the murder of the team's best player. Arguments can be made for both sides of this coaching search, but I think it's getting pretty shitty. |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
This is just a cluster-fuck. All they had to do to maintain cohesion was hire GW as the head coach and keep the rest of the staff in place. Now they have fucked up cohesion, chemistry, and their hopes for a winning team in the future. Why in the hell are we still fans?
The fans want GW, so give the fans GW. When we are wrong, then hire elsewhere, but I believe that we have our fingers on the pulse better than anyone else. Give us what we want until, what we want fails. I guarentee you that it won't. |

The fans change their opinions week to week, hell play to play sometimes. One week Jason Campbell is a hero, the next week people are saying Collins should be starting. One week Portis blows, the next week he's the man. If the fans got what they wanted, the team would be an absolute joke. Players would get cut on a weekly basis, and we would replace a kicker who was 29 of 35 this year because of one missed kick in the playoffs. Fans are too emotionally wrapped up in the team to make rational, meaningful decisions. I guarantee this love for Williams would die pretty damn quick if the team opened up the season 0-4 and went on to have a miserable season. |

Now you leave the guy hanging so he can't pursue any other jobs cause you want to chase around guys that are less qualified? You piss off the whole fan base, piss off the rest of the coaches cause their futures are in limbo, probably piss off the players who are behind GW. You get Joe to do your dirty work for you since you're too spineless to tell them what's going on. And for what??? To chase around guys like Jim Fassel, Josh McDaniels and the Giants DC? Josh McDaniles IS NOT ready to be a HC. The guys like 30 years old. And the Giants DC is in his first year there. Plus Snyder chases aroound other teams assistants w/out a HC in place? Sorry but that makes no sense. When has Jim Zorn called plays in the NFL? Sorry but we as fans that support the team have a right to be upset. We care about the players and most of the coaches. There was a real sense of family, continuity and trust that Joe had built. Especially after the ST incident. Now it's all ripped up and gone the minute the guy resigns. And I thought Snyder had turned the corner. It just shows that he still hasn't learned a damn thing. |
Re: Gibbs says it can be weeks...
Fans are too emotionally wrapped up in the team to make rational, meaningful decisions. I guarantee this love for Williams would die pretty damn quick if the team opened up the season 0-4 and went on to have a miserable season.
I don't see the logic in saying something like that. Of course people would be pissed; they were pissed when Joe Gibbs had a 4 game losing streak, and they'll damn sure be pissed when anyone else has one. But how much more pissed will people be IF it's Fassel losing those games instead of Williams?
On the other hand IF Gregg Williams or whoever else is the coach goes undefeated the fans will be happy. The point is, you could say "if this..." and "if that..." all day long and you'll always sound right. The fact is right now, when Snyder and Vinny are close to making one of this team's most important decisions in years, the support is firmly in Gregg Williams' corner. It sounds like all the players, the vast majority of the fans, the analysts, many if not all of the current assistant coaches, and even many former players (Gary Clark was very supportive of Williams on Comcast this morning) feel that this team was finally headed in the right direction and that to completely change course now would be a very big mistake. So is it worth it for Snyder to say "No, F you all; this is my choice and I'm going with whoever I want"? Of course it's his decision to make and since he owns the team he can do whatever he wants, but does that make him right, right now? Back to my point about what you said would happen if the team starts out 0-4 (hey, didn't Gibbs start out his first year 0-5?): Yes, we'd be mad, but none of us know how it will play out once the new season starts. If we did the game wouldn't be half as fun to watch. But I look at it like folding bad cards at the beginning of a hand of Texas hold'em. If the guy ahead of me goes all in, I fold a 2-7, and the flop comes out 2-2-2, I'd still say I made the right decision at the time. I'd be mad at my crappy luck but hopefully I'd be smart enough to realize that I can't see into the future. And I just wasted about 20 minutes of my morning. |

This coaching search reminds me of so many times in the past where The Danny pined for everyone else's high profile free agents, yet allowed some of our homegrown talent to walk (B. Mitch, Smoot, Pierce, etc.). Leaving Williams and Fassel hanging is no way to conduct a search. If he was serious about McDaniel and Spagnuolo, he should have put off interviewing others until the week of the Super Bowl. The current coaching staff is being left in limbo for close to a month. I wouldn't blame Williams if he eventually got the offer then told Danny to take his job and shove it. |
