Gregg Williams Is Gone
Gregg Williams Is Gone
Williams, assistant head coach - defense, had a meeting with owner Dan Snyder this morning acccording to his agent Marv Demoff, and is no longer a part of the organization. The sides mutual aggreed that he was no longer a candidate, Demoff said, and will move on. The meeting was pleasant and productive, Demoff said, and Williams intended to withdraw from their coaching search Tuesday. At the urging of Joe Gibs he stayed in the process. He reached out to Gibsb again Thursday and Friday and was asked to stay in, Demoff said. So he did. In today's meeting Williams asked Snyder abouyt media reports that he had disrecpetd Joe Gibbs. "Both Sndyer and Ceerato agreed that that had never occured and those reports were totally false," Demoff said. "They wished each othger well int he future and the sides parted." I FREAKING SO DEPRESSED RIGHT NOW |

Another new era begins or should I say rebuild.

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
I really don't know what to say. This is so f-ing crazy. WTF?
|
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
I am disappointed too. I really liked Gregg Williams. Maybe if Gibbs had stayed one year longer, things would be different for Williams in the next offseason. Nevertheless, looks like it could be Jim Fassel or Steve Spagnuolo or Ron Meeks, or.....I'm getting a headache now.

Him and Schwartz flip?

What? I thought Blache was thinking of retiring? He didn't seem to be interested in the position. |
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
For Williams' sake it would have been nice if this had happened sooner so he could have been a candidate for some head coaching jobs (Atlanta, Baltimore).
Blache taking over wouldn't be too surprising, though I think he'd prefer not to stay. Not for any reason other than he's "getting too old for this shit" I think Jerry Gray and Danny Smith are likely to try to follow Williams out the door. |
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
I like Blache, but something seems kind of fishy about that press release to me. It sounds like an interim move to act like the Redskins were prepared for Williams' departure.

Unless he gets the job in Jacksonville, Williams might just have to sit out the '08 season. |
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
why not flop with schwartz, did he go somewhere else and I missed it?

Extremeskins link: EXTREMESKINS.com - Press Release: Zorn and Blache named coordinators
At least we have some continuity on defense. I'm sure that all the players have a lot of respect for Blache and they'll respond well. I just hate that GW had to go this way. I don't think he deserves the treatment he received. Sucks. Thanks for everything GW.....we wish you all the luck in the world. |

Anyway, I am not saying its true or not. I'm not even a member of ExtremeSkins, I just followed the link and decided to post it. |
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
Well, technically Blache has been defensive coordinator all along. Remember, Gregg's fancy little Danny/Vinny title was Assistant Head Coach-Defense.
But I guess from a continuity standpoint, Blache isn't a bad idea. Although if we're gonna blow the whole thing up anyway, I'd just as soon swap Williams with Schwartz. Really sad to see Williams go. It's funny how Danny can be such a good businessman as far as revenue is concerned (Six Flags aside), yet continue to make the same mistakes. His crap never worked before Gibbs, and now he's reverted right back to his old ways. Way to learn from your boyhood idol. I know, I know, he's being "thorough" in his HC search, but to me it just smells way too much like the old Danny/Vinny circus. History is a good predictor of the future, so until he proves otherwise, I'm a skeptic. |

Actually Blatche plays forward for the Washington Wizards. He's number 32. Were you referring to Greg Blache? Just bustin your balls GMScud. ;) |
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
if they went and interviewed Grimm...I would be ok with all of this...pending we can keep the players on board

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
Well let's put things in perspective here. Al Saunders was gone regardless who the head coach was going to be. And, it seems like most everybody likes the move to get Jim Zorn. On the other side of the ball, we're promoting Greg Blache to DC. Hopefully that means continuity on the defensive side of the ball....where we were most consistent in the last four seasons. Not much needs to be fixed on that side of the ball, with the exception of the defensive line. So, I like the move to promote Blache even though I'm a bit surprised he's staying.
It might all point to Fassel at this point, but I don't mind having the coordinators and other coaches in place before the head coach. By that point, the HC can move in and start planning things for the next season. They can get to work right away. |

Ahh...Russ Grimm. Now, we haven't heard yay or nay about him as of yet. At least nothing concrete. I wouldn't be upset with that move at all. Neither would Joe Gibbs. |
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
I can't stand Synder!~
He has been the biggest F-up as an owner. Thank you Cerrato, without your promotion instead of demotion none of this would have been possible! They need to leave the Redskins. Gregg Williams got screwed over by the Danny boy and his minnion Cerrato, they are not true Redskins, the are corrupt. Leave the Skins Dan! |
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
I say hire Mariucchi before Fassel, I'll be ok with that.
|
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
Well, it apears as though some things are beginning to take shape. I hate to see Williams leave because his defense was without a doubt the best side of the ball. However, I was silently hoping that Jerry Gray would be considered for the DC position, and that Danny Smith would be retained.
|
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
For those of you that mention "continuity" we've had very little of that the past several years with the exception of Joe Gibbs as HC. This latest move by the brain-trust at Redskins park is nothing if not a slap in the face to a man that did so much for this team and it disgusts me to no end. In addition, there are reports that leaked about Williams alledged "disrespectfulness" toward Gibbs. Give me a freakin' break. Sounds like spin control from The Danny and his boys. Unbelievable, but not really I guess. It's getting harder and harder to support this organization (except the players).

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
It should also be said that GW is playing the game and using his agent to pressure the skins into making a decision. A very common move in the negotiations process.

So how long until I have to give up my avatar?

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
Micro-managing, turnover, and misinformation. Mr. Snyder is beginning to remind me of Al Davis.
|
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
Looking at the results objectively, Gregg Williams was clearly the best Redskins coach of Gibbs 2.0. I just want to say thanks to Gregg for bringing respectability back to our defense, and good luck wherever you end up. I'll always be a fan of the way you run a D.

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
Synder must go this is the worst decison he has made.
williams was the best person for the job |
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
This really sucks!!!! I don't trust Dan or Vinny to make anything close to a 'football' decision. If it doesn't have dollar signs in front of it they need to butt the f@#k out!
We are going to suck again and probably for a long, long time. So much for being able to hold my head up on Sundays and Mondays. |
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
GW leaving bites it.
Hard. Silver lining: At least we hired from within instead of going outside. Blache has been with us for a while a he had good defenses when he was in CHI so, it can't be all that, right? |
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
What's next? Dan raising ticket prices? ...
|
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
So if this process comes to bringing a better team to the table and the Redskins make the playoffs again and make it even further, how do you ladies like your crow served? Well done, stir fried or al dente?
|
Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
I'm not to disappointed with Willaims leaving I never really thought he was head coaching material myself, I think he seemed kinda stubborn and thought a bit much of himself. And for whatever reason him not telling Joe about the 10 guys on the field thing just left a bad taste in my mouth

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
GOD FUCKING DAMNIT.....Well guys its back to terrible seasons...were going to win the draft next season aren't we?!?

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
Well, Mike Wise's article pretty much sums it up. We did 'em dirty. If Snyder didn't want him around he could have at least been dignified about it. I'm not saying I don't think another coach can be successful here, but this was handled poorly. GW deserved better from the Redskins after what he's done for us. I'm embarrassed about this one.

Snyder knew if he let Williams go he'd be a hot commodity and probably snatched up by some other team looking for a head coach (Falcons maybe), and most-if not all-of his new contract would still be paid for by the Redskins. So Snyder left him hanging until all other jobs were taken. or 2.) Snyder and Williams have never had a strong relationship, made worse over the past couple of years. Yet Gibbs served as a buffer to the two of them. And once Gibbs left, the two of them (Williams and Snyder) knowing that Gibbs wish apparently was for Williams to assume the reigns tried desperately to make it work. Hence the three or four very lengthy interviews. But ultimately their differences were simply too much. |
