Ocho Cinco In B&G?
Not sure how I would feel about this....But it's intriguing.
Ocho Cinco - Redskins Insider Sure, Johnson hasn't come right out and said publicly that he wants out, but the spectacle he is making of himself is clearly intended to put pressure on the Bengals to do something with him, as to this point Coach Marvin Lewis has said he will not trade the highly talented but enigmatic wideout. Don't surprised to the see the Redskins as major players in the sweepstakes to land him should the Bengals shop him around. He has been discussed by owner Daniel Snyder and executive vice president Vinny Cerrato at length and his name came up frequently in conversations with coaching candidates, league sources said, expecting the Redskins to make a concerted push if he hits the market There are already pictures of Johnson in a Redskins jersey floating around the internets and while at first, a few weeks back with Joe Gibbs still at the helm, I didn't think much of those pictures, after doing more homework I don't think it's a coincidence. While I would never accuse the Redskins - or any NFL team for that matter - of tampering, it's no secret around the league which teams covet which players. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
The Skins will overpay either him or Randy Moss.
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
To even further the discussion, which head coach prospect could best deal with the high maintenance Ocho Cinco? (If I remember correctly, Mooch clashed with T.O. and I don't think Fassel is a players coach). Gibbs wouldn't even wanted to deal with Ocho's baggage...
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
I'm sure he'd get a huge payday here. The thought of giving Campbell that kind of target is very intriguing though. Johnson, Moss, El. Wow. I'd put those three up against New England's receivers anyday.
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Delicious.
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Bring him in. But how long before he yells at JC on the sidelines if he misses a deep ball or something like that.
The one thing I always loved Gibbs for was the moral behavior of his teams on and off the field. He was a real winner in that area above all. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
If we're going to overpay for someone I would rather see CJ here over Moss.
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
If we're going to overpay for someone I would rather see CJ here over Moss.
Word. I have a ton of respect and admiration for Gibbs, but his teams are boring. I wanna have some fun man. He's one of the most popular players in the league, and he's got personality. The more I think about it, the more for it I think I would be. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
I wrote a thread about this awhile ago. But yep i agree reasonable price , bring him in
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
If we're going to overpay for someone I would rather see CJ here over Moss.
I would prefer Moss but the problem with getting Moss is that the Skins are not enough of a consistent winner to keep him from starting to complain. CJ would also be good but like a previous post mentioned, he will not be happy when JC keeps missing him when he's open. What I really wish is that the Skins could develop their own talent at cheaper prices rather than always overpaying for someone else's talent that just had a huge year. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Is it just me or does IRISH hate the Skins? Its a fact you hate GIBBS

No, neither is true. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
He's under contract and not complaining about money. He's sick of losing and has publicly said that he doesn't like being a fall guy for their losing. I like his antics, when he's winning. It would probably cost us a 1st and 3rd though.
As for Mooch and TO, the only person TO has played for and not pissed off is Jerry Jones. I think it's unfair to say that Mooch couldn't get along with 85. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Maybe it was SS who said it, or it was someone else.
I'd love to have either of them here, but why not sign Moss if he's released rather than TRADE for CJ? That being said, I too, would love CJ being here. I agree what someone said above about people with some character issues. I DO enjoy a team that has few problems, but sometimes it's a good idea to take a chance on someone who's had issues in the past. Lloyd comes to mind, but he was a bust before he even came here. |

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
For some reason there's this perception that Chad Johnson is a malcontent and a locker room problem. Just because he comes up with funky celebrations and is flashy doesn't mean he's not a team player. The guy posts 1400 yard seasons every year.
As for yelling at his QB, the only time I've EVER seen him do that was this year. And is that even really a big problem? QBs and WRs can yell at each other. It happens because they're passionate and want to win. Yelling at each other does not prohibit them from playing well the next time they go back out on the field. Chad Johnson is not the kind of guy who will stop trying (like Randy Moss in Oakland) when things don't go well. He may yell at JC, but he'll still come out to practice and work hard with JC to get it right. He's said some things about players and coaches in Cinci, but you know what, he's right. That team has ignored character. In fact, CJ is one of their GOOD character guys. He works hard, he delivers consistent performances, and he stays out of trouble. But he's surrounded by morons who break the law and coached by a guy who totally ignores it all (Marvin Lewis). The Bengals deserve criticism and Chad Johnson deserves better. Anyone who thinks Chad is a bad guy is not paying close enough attention. Celebrations do not mean he's selfish. He's a bit of a diva, but can you say he doesn't work hard? |

I don't think that CJ has to worry about Campbells deep passes, I think that JC proved this year that he has a very good deep ball. It would be the slants and out patterns that I think are the problem. |

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
I dont want to blow a 1st rounder on this guy....a third would be fine by me...we need other talent too
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
If we want to talk about divas, we can look at our own Clinton Portis.
He and CJ are pretty similar personality-wise. If it wasn't illegal, a combined Portis/CJ TD celebration would be AMAZING. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
I admire his passion for winning though his personal antics are sometimes a little over the top. He could be a tremendous asset providing we have what it takes to deal with his "character", and the coin coming his way.

Everything he does,(i.e. celebrations, sending peptbismal to other teams, and whatever else) he does it to have fun. I really don't think that he sent the peptobismal to the Browns defense to "Truly" offend them, it was supposed to be done in good fun. Same thing with the end zone celebrations they are done just for fun. He didn't throw Carson under the bus like T.O. does with just about every QB he had, he doesn't come out and say "I play when I want to play". IMO, the baggage that CJ is supposedly to have is nothing more than the media trying to make mountains out of mole hills... |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
The team to pay attention to is the Dolphins.
They're interviewing Hue Jackson to be their OC and he has a relationship with CJ from their days together in Cincy. Plus, Parcells wants/needs to win sooner than later. Add to that the fact that they're openly shopping their #1 pick. CJ could go back home to Miami. It all adds up. |

Well I wouldn't make it a straight up one for one trade, but it could be part of a bigger deal

Oh that makes sense. He's really good but I think sometimes WR are not that vital compared to line, QB, RB. Does anyone think that Portis is in danger with the team now that Gibbs is gone? His salary very high and his style may not fit what new coaching staff is doing as well. What are some great West Coast RB's? I personally think he stays but any thoughts? |

Is this a VBulliten thing? I think the main reason a lot of guys don't use the search tool around here is the ability to only complete 2 searches per minute. Plus some poeple have trouble SPILLING on this site. Anyway back to topic. If its between drafting Limas Sweed and trading for Chad Johnson I'll trade for Chad Johnson. Hell maybe we could throw in S. Moss and a 2nd round pick instead of giving away a first. The thing that a lot of us are going to learn real soon is that this is the beginning to a new era and players that were inexpendible before are now expendible. Guys like Clinton Portis and S. Moss are going to get long looks this offseason, though I doubt anything will happen with Portis. |

Because when a big piece of news come out, it better serves the site to have it easily accessible in it's own thread. If you put it in an old thread, it simply bumps to the top, but many readers won't even bother opening it because they'll think it's the same old tired discussion. Besides, the discussion changes dramatically when you have legit news sources tying Snyder to Chad than when you simply have fan speculation. |

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
I'd say if we overpay on one of these two guys at least it is one of these two guys. Both can still play and are among the top 5 in the league at their positions when healthy. It is better than chasing an over the hill mega star looking for one more big pay day.
He seemed lighter and faster on Denver. More of a pounder now.
I love this, when Portis comes to play for the Redskins, just about everyone is yelling, "SYSTEM BACK!!!!!" Now he is back in the system that got him that label and now he wont do good!!!! I am in no way call you out Qball, but I knew it was bound to happen... Either way Portis, IMO, is an ultimate back, he proved him self in the West Coast Offense then came here to Washington and proved himself as a pounder. Not only that he can block and catch. One of the last do-it-all backs in the league. I think that he will transition into the WCO with no problem. And he may even go back to putting up those dubble digit TD's and 1,500 plus yards... |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
My major concern would be what happens when they don't get the ball? JC is not a top QB in the league. Would CJ be happy w/ 70 catches? I don't think so. Would he become a problem if we don't win? Maybe.
I like CJ as a reciever, he's a hard worker, but I get a little tired of his antics. I'm an old school guy and i'd rather see a Art Monk guy, an LT guy, not a CJ overthetop endzone celebration. With that being said 1400 yards and 15 TD's would go a long way. It's just a risky move. If we get a Randy Moss trade (4th rounder) for CJ it would be tough to pass up though. |

He's a favorite of mine. My question was does anyone feel that he could be in danger? Like would he be traded or released? I hope not love Portis as a skin. Doesn't Denver produce RB's though? We happen to land a really good one from them. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
You are right that Denver can produce RB's but I really don't see the Redskins getting rid of a proven WCO RB. My only reserve with Portis is this, did he shorten his career by playing in Gibbs system?
