BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Jim Zorn - Redskins Insider
Posted at 6:18 PM ET, 02/ 9/2008 Jim Zorn I have reason to believe that Jim Zorn is a strong possibility to be the Redskins next head coach. (81+83+84=Posse, I moved your post because I thought it deserved its own thread) |
Re: JLC: Head Coach Jim Zorn?
I need to hear this from somewhere else before I start really giving it consideration.
In recent weeks JLC has posted that he believes Mora Jr., Mariucci, Fassel, and now Zorn are all the next head coach |
Re: JLC: Head Coach Jim Zorn?
Now this is interesting. Maybe Dan really just isn't happy with anyone he's interviewed.
|
Re: JLC: Head Coach Jim Zorn?
I'd almost rather have a young ambitious HC than a failed retread. If he is capable and impressed the FO, why not?
|
Re: JLC: Head Coach Jim Zorn?
I'd still be pretty surprised if it wasn't Jim Fassel, but this move would make some sense.
|
Re: JLC: Head Coach Jim Zorn?
Wow, this would be very interesting.. If Zorn becomes HC, then who would be our OC?? I don't mind giving someone who is nobody a chance at HC position.. It's better than all choices we have right now, I guess?

In recent weeks JLC has posted that he believes Mora Jr., Mariucci, Fassel, and now Zorn are all the next head coach
That is misleading. JLC never said anyone else was the next head coach, and that he had confirmed it. Jim Zorn is the next head coach. |
Re: JLC: Head Coach Jim Zorn?
He doesn't say "I believe" ... he says he IS ... like this is a definite..
Wow this thing has gotten WEIRD! Well... Matt Hasselbeck called it... he said Zorn should have been considered for HC all along because of how well he relates with and cares for players while still being hard on them and a perfectionist... I can live with this ... let's a ll jump on the Z-Train!! |

If in fact Snyder almost hired Fassel a couple weeks ago but decided to wait till after the super bowl to interview spags, that's pretty conclusive evidence to state that Snyder himself has changed his mind on the matter. I know you're not necessarily criticizing JLC, but I'd say what he reports is at least a roughly accurate portrayal of how much back & forth there's been in this process. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
It's being reported on the bottom line ticker on NFL Network (Associated Press report)
and I just called my coworkers who say the same |

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
ESPN just confirmed it.
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
What a crazy turn of events! Maybe the fossil at the OC job? Maybe Dan knows he can get the HC he wants next year...?
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Here we go, we got our coach, let's all get fired up behind this guy and let him run with it... as much as Dan will let him... ha ha ha

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Click the link....
Jim Zorn Is The Next Head Coach "Just got off the phone with sources with knowledge of the situation. Zrn is the next head coach. He spent a lot of time with Vinny Cerrato and Dan Snyder the past two days, team sources said, and the brass "fell in love with him." A press conference should come Monday." And NFL Network is running it across the bottom of the screen confirmed by the Associated Press. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
My bad! JLC updated this quickly, went from possibility to "next head coach."
Man, I'm kinda excited. The only thing I don't like about this is Zorn's seattle ties. Big difference between Seattle & DC. I hope he isn't looking to take over the hawks when Mora Jr. flails in a couple years. I would love, as I believe most of us would, for our head coach to make a name here over the next 5-10 years. Zorn is the right age for that to happen if he can have some early success. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
I just saw it go over the NFL Netowrk ticker. If this is true I'm not sure what to think.
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Well, if this is true, this is the most F'd up coaching search I've ever seen. A nobody QB coach becomes the HC of our proud franchise! If it is indeed true, I guess we have to line up behind him. Maybe crazy wins.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Well, like I said, Hasselbeck has raved about him and hes been under Holmgren, a great one, for 7 years....
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Is this a YHBT?
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Well I have to say another surprise HC. I would have never seen this one coming. I'm just glad this whole HC search is over. Interested to see who turns out being the Zorn replacement at the OC job..?
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
this reaks of desperation

Of course, he's never called a play as a pro coach offensively or defensively (he was the utah state OC so that's impressive), but Matt likes him, so, you know, it should work out. ;) |

Mike, I'll give you props on the idea! That would be crazy if it ended up that way. I hope we're stickin w/him long term & vice-versa. I'm waiting for all the Zorn paraphenalia to come out! |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Unbelieveable......is there any way at all to remove an Owner other than us all throwing in cash for a Soprano's moment?
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Now it all makes sense. What a blockbuster hiring.
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
what does anyone think about Russ Grimm as the offensive coordinator, in the Bramm discussion/article he talks about some issues with the Cardinals over contractual obligations. Seems to me since this would be a lateral move, that the redskins and cardinals would have to work this out in order to get Grimm to run the offense.
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
...I kind of want Jim Fassel now...no just kidding, we're all set for moving on to draft speculation. Full steam ahead.

Or is this Danny looking to the future & thinking long-term rather than going for the splash? |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Some quotes about Jim Zorn... our new HC...
"He's very hands-on with his quarterbacks," said Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs, who played in Seattle while Zorn was on the coaching staff. "He's a real bright guy. Very sharp. And [Seahawks Pro Bowl quarterback] Matt [Hasselbeck] would tell you he's done a lot for his career. I think he'll be real good for Jason [Campbell]." "It was leaked out that he might be leaving for a while, but I didn't think he would go," Hasselbeck said. "I've been with him for a long time, and he means a lot to me not just as a coach but as a mentor. I think it's hard for him because he has so many great memories in Seattle, but this is a great opportunity and a great challenge in Washington." Hasselbeck said quarterback Jason Campbell is getting a solid technician in Zorn. "Jason can expect to be coached in all aspects of his life, not just Xs and Os, not just the technique of throwing a pigskin," he said. "Jim's going to care about Jason Campbell the person just as much as he's going to care about Jason Campbell the player." Zorn started 100 games as Seattle's quarterback, experience that makes him equal parts realist and perfectionist. "He's a realist on things, good and bad," Hasselbeck said. "The tough thing I found with Jim is that you may think you're playing at a level you think is really good and you're doing everything you're supposed to be doing and everything all the coaches have asked you to do. "Jim will say, 'Now we have to take it to the next level.' And that's hard when you're thinking, 'I had a good game. I was NFC offensive player of the week.' But he'll say, 'You didn't do this, this and this.' But in the big picture, he has a good perspective on things." |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Cool! Hiring from within. The classic mark of a well run organization. Mad props to you Danny for sticking with continuity!

Very excited about the hire!!!! Going to be a fun year!!!! Hopefully we can bring in Berrian or Ocho Cinco!!

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
I like it...
I'm sorry, I just never bought into the Fassel idea. |

im a surprised they went with zorn but geing reminded that he has studied under a proven NFL head coach is a lil reassuring. just WOW for now . . |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
All I have to say is WTF!? I was psyched about him coming aboard as the OC, but this seems like a huge gamble to me and comes completely out of nowhere. I totally don't know what to make of this. I'm dumbfounded by this whole search for the next head coach as it's become one giant roller coaster.
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
This can't be true, I didn't see his name on the poll.
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
This explains I guess why Redskins officials have been allegedly seen in the Seattle/Portland area the last couple of days.
Zorn's can't handle it all himself. Maybe there's someone in Seattle he's bringing here? Haskell? Stump Mitchell? I'm not about to say the season is over, cause that would be stupid. But this is interesting nonetheless, I'm not sure how I feel about thrusting someone who hasn't even been a coordinator into such a high profile position without knowing what kind of support he's going to get on his offensive staff. Makes you wonder why we didn't keep Lazor though |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
STOP THE PRESSES PFT is saying that the Redskins have hired Deion Sanders to be the HC and Jamie Dukes is going to be his OC!!! Oh wait never mind I just realized it was from PFT.
