Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
Not sure what to make of this, but check it out for yourself, seems very contrary to everything we've seen on Zorn so far... sounds like some douche with an axe to grind if you ask me:

Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
Jim Zorn, Redskins
Zorn Why he might succeed: Zorn's the best bet to have immediate success and the reason for that has nothing to do with his abilities. Zorn is inheriting a playoff team that got hot in the second half of last season. Joe Gibbs did a nice job of assembling a talented roster and the Redskins were smart to keep most of his coaching staff in place. Zorn also is expected to work well with Vinny Cerrato, who runs the front office. Lot of the parts of a contender are already in place. The guy who wrote that negative Zorn article wanted us to hire Mike Singletary, no thanks. |

Um, aside from the obvious ire that the article will produce around here, can't Spurrier be tagged as a "worse" hire? ;)

Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
"That’s the problem. It’s OK to hire a head coach without previous play-calling/coordinating experience–Andy Reid, John Harbaugh, John Madden, Jon Gruden (I think) hadn’t yet been coordinators when they were hired as head coaches. The difference: They were all universally believed to be capable of coordinating and on the path to head-coach land.
Not Zorn. Nobody thought that. Whatever nice things they’re saying in Seattle, I can tell you, privately they were not saying those things about Zorn before he left." A quote from the article, what are his sources on nobody thought he could be a coordinator? i hate writers who are jerks who just write whatever they want. |

Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
From the article:
"Worse: Nobody in the NFL had ever thought that Zorn should be considered as a coordinator–a coordinator!–until Snyder and his pal Vinny Cerrato came up with that idea." Well, somebody liked the guy being on he was on at least 2 prospective coaches short list for OC. From the article: "I talked to Zorn when he was first getting into coaching on the Seahawks staff and I can tell you that, if first impressions mean anything–and they do–I walked away from that interview thinking, This guy shouldn’t be anywhere near an NFL sideline." Well, he managed to stick around since 1998 in the NFL so he couldn't be that ridiculously stupid. From the article: "Zorn is the worst: Least prepared, worst communicator, most obvious risk for total failure, right from Day 1." Well, I don't know how even measure that. I guess in the final analysis: Tim Kawakami = Douchebag |

Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
the more i hear the media talking like this is the worst thing yet i think this will be a solid hire and like others in here give zorn a shot i think it just might workout for us. escpecially those fine folks over at espn who call themselves experts..they are like all the others jumping to conclusions on just about everything related to football and everything else for that matter.
so zorn for president .......i like the hire too.everybody has an opinion. |
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
Opinions are like assholes everybodys got one, whoever this guy is his means nothing to me. However, I don't see how ANYONE with more than a single digit IQ can say its the WORST hire ever in the NFL, the man hasn't even coached a game yet?
Zorn has a job to do and just has to get it done, plain and simple. Only time will tell. |
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
I think this section of the article says it all:
"The Zorn I talked to was over-emotional, antsy, defensive and very short on the ability to communicate general NFL knowledge–and I was just doing a soft story on the Seahawks during the off-season, so it wasn’t like I was plumbing the depths of intricate analysis." Zorn probably thought he had an interview with a real sportswriter and this idiot showed up. Zorn was short with him and he got his feelings hurt. GET OVER IT. Well I guess the saying is true; "Hell hath no fury like that of a woman scorned." :hater: |
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
Definitely seems like he has some sort of personal vendetta against Zorn...either that, or he's trying to get Sally Jenkins in the sack.
|
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
Only time will tell whether or not he's going to be a good HC. I'd would've rather had Fassel than Zorn. Hiring a HC w/out HC or OC experience is risk. Now we're about to hire a OC that's never even called plays? So we could potentially have a HC and an OC that's never called plays in the NFL?? Sigh...... Sorry but Fassel looks really good right about now.
|
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
Off the top of my head I can think of one hire that is inarguably worse...
At least we didn't hire a 31 year old college co-offensive coordinator, who was not responsible for play calling, and who no one had ever even heard of. My friends Zorn could 0-16 and he'd still be a better hire than Lane Kiffin was. |
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
He's never called plays in the NFL but he has at the college level.
|
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
Some in depth research–like typing the words “Jim Zorn” into the Wikipedia search box–would reveal that Zorn never left football. He spent 10 years as a college coach, including three as an offensive coordinator. He started the year after he retired from the Seahawks.
Doesn’t do too much for the credibility of the rest of your article when you can’t get a basic fact like the guy’s coaching experience–a main basis for your criticism.
Pretty much sums it up right there. |
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
Is there any real doubt about whether Zorn can be a good HC? Not really. Any negativism is applied to this particular situation and whether he can suceed here. In general though I haven't seen anyone basically say that he can't be a good HC other than this guy.

Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
REALLY!?! Worst hire of all time? What happened to Mike Smith and John Harbraugh? Personally I think those hires are worse then Zorn. Harbraugh was a special teams coordinator/DB coach and Mike Smith was a figurehead at D-Coordinator. Jim Zorn is a respected QB coach that turned Matt Hasselback into a pro-bowler and Charlie Batch into a respectable QB. The guy who wrote this article seems to have a personal vendeta against Zorn as well.
Oh yeah, and I can't blieve I forgot Lane Kiffin (thanks RFLPG). Thats my favorite. I remember reading a Raider fan making fun of us for hiring Zorn when his team hired a college Offensive coordinator that was younger then a good portion of his players. At least Spurrier was a head coach at the college level. |
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
Only Zorn's wins and losses are going to decide whether he's successful. This was more of an opinion article. I'm sure some were written about Mike McCarthy too before he had the great year he did last year.

I've got 2 words for the worst NFL hire of all time...

Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
This is all about Snyder...any other team hired Zorn and it would be called a smart move or at worst they would say lets wait and see.

Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
That's just drivel. It's poorly researched, riddled with inaccuracies, and, in some cases, flat out false. It reminds me of the Howard Dean meltdown from 2004.
The comments have, unfortunately, turned ugly, which is an instant "trump" card for the Kawakami apologists. |
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
Bullshit,(sorry) Look I think you guys would be better of with Fassel but I never said a negative toward Zorn he got the job he deserves a chance .
Worst of all time ,this idiot does'nt know Ray Hanley does he? |

Have to admit, that while I'm glad overall about Zorn, the transition to the west coast O scares me & that's combined w/his transition to the team & as a head coach. There's a lot on his shoulders. This team isn't that far from being really good, in fact I see us w/a handful of teams that if things go right are good enough to be in the super bowl. It makes me wonder if hiring the experienced guy would've been the right move to take a good team forward. But since we hired him, let's hope he's here a long time. |
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
All I have to say is that if Zorn possibly... somehow... maybe gets this team to the Superbowl that Kawakami guy is gonna catch so much heat he'll quit the second it happens. Even a playoff berth should do it since this is considered the worst hire ever.
|
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
This will definitely be an article to bookmark and revisit at some point in the future.

Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
The first thing I thought of when I saw this thread title was "Lane Kiffin and Rich Kotite." Glad they were mentioned here. This guy is a moron of epic proportions. Anyone ever heard of Tim Kawakami? Exactly. He doesn't deserve any more of our time IMO. What a douche.

Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
whats funny is the "mercury news" where this guy is employed is based out of san jose... and quite of few peeps i know love the seahawks in that general area... maybe upset he left the seahawks to go to washington??? lol did his favorite team lose a coach and now he upset... poor baby....

Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
I'm reserving all judgment on Zorn. To be honest, I don't remember him as a QB and I don't know how people "in the know" really view him. He could be a great hire, or he could be a miserable failure. I simply don't know.
|
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
First of all this was a horrible repot on an NFL team. That said, I agree with the fact that Zorn does need to prove himself. If he doesnt, make no mistake he and snyder will be facing ALOT of criticism. I'm hoping for the best along with every other skins fan (obviously). I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

No one else does either, I admire the approach you're taking and it would be wise if others followed your lead. I watched him play with great interest back in 1976 because Seattle was an expantion team just coming into the league. He was their first QB, and I wanted to see how he and his new team stacked up against the rest. We didn't see a lot of their games being here on the east coast, neither did I follow his career after his playing days. Many people have had good things to say about him, so like you I'm going to wait and see. |
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
You know, of the four teams that made coaching changes this offseason, three hired coaches who had never even been coordinators before - Sparano, Zorn, Harbaugh. So this guy can shove it.
|
Re: Zorn "probably the worst NFL hire of all time"??
This guy from FoxSports is arguably worse. He describes two different coaches the same way, with completely opposite opinions on the two.

The best way to shut up the critics like Pasta Belly, Kawakami (sounds like the name of a moped), and Jenkins is for the Skins to win.
