Do you think Madden 08 sucks
 

its still a very playable game and pretty addictive since i love football but do you guys find that madden 06 for reg xbox was much better than the new ones 360. Not so much with the gameplay but everything else as far as the depth in franchise mode. They have taken away everything and have slowly been building it back up. why cant they just keep all the cool stuff 06 had like substitutions and custom unis, better draft classes(08 drafts are pretty unrealistic) And BEING ABLE TO CHANGE A PERSONS POSITION. Like changing a cb to a s or just a rolb to a lolb without killing their overall. and also in season progression. so many dumb things with this game. 360 has so many good games so i know it gets better than this. Madden needs to be an elite game again.

They should probably make a game where you CAN SEE THE FLATS WHEN YOU ARE PASSING.

On the highest skill level (all-madden), 08 is pretty downright unplayable when the most improbable stuff in the world happens to screw you every other play just to even the playing field.

Seriously, try getting through a season with Campbell throwing less than 30 ints on all-madden. Even if you play perfectly, it isn't going to happen.

I still shouldn't have 120 games experience on the toughest skill level, and still being intercepted once every 8 times I pass.

EA really dropped the ball, IMO.

I dunno I really like Madden '08. I think it's the best one in years as far as gameplay is concerned. It's definitely challenging.

I'm playing 08 on a ps2 this year because I haven't gotten a next gen system yet, but I'm gonna get either a PS3 or Xbox360 this year because I def. want to get GTA 4 when it comes out in April. From the looks of it tho a lot of people are disappointed with next gen Madden. IMO 08 for both next gen and current gen really dropped the ball, I don't like playing it that much on ps2 because they did almost nothing to make the game stand out from last year.

I love on All-Madden when you can watch the replay of the ball stopping in midair and changing directions like the JFK bullet away from your open receiver and into the arms of a defender. All-Madden is only playable with an elite qb, forget about about it with the Skins.

GTripp, not being able to see the flats is horrible. Last gen Madden had adjustable view options, which this year's game does not.

What else? How about the computer not being able to challenge plays? Or punting from your 29 yard line when they have a good kicker? Or punting on fourth and inches from the 40 down by 4?

How about players not developing in franchise mode? Carlos Rogers won NFL defensive player of the year for me and dropped a point the following season. Rocky has been a perennial probowler in my franchise and is still stuck at about 81. I got Campbell up to 84 after several consecutive probowls.

I think on the one hand it's easy to say that this game is better than last year's, and it probably is, but every year we continue to see a game that is highly flawed. When EA bought the exclusive NFL rights you feared that the quality of the game would suffer and it has. Madden 05 was the last great version imo, not coincidentally the last year they had to compete with 2k. They get away with these annoying problems because they are the only game in town, and it pisses me off.

It's different than what I'm used to. I think its a lot more realistic, and I use a power running attack and loads of blitzing which will work pretty well and are easy to execute. People who master aggressive passing attacks in the game have a solid advantage, though... which I haven't yet.

I thought I was the only one.

I know all you guys are pros, but I really miss games where I could absolutely pound the computer if I wanted to. Like I'm talking scores of 200+ to nothing. I miss those days.

Honestly, I think Guitar Hero is the only game I've ever played on Expert in my life.

Well, I really like it for PS2, but I have it for the Nintendo DS and it's amazingly frustrating.
I feel for the PS2 it's challenging and I am enjoying the challenge.

i only play on all pro against the computer... i like human competition better than a computer. I get extremely frustrated when a computer beats me. Its getting hard to find a decent online game. Its either glitchers (theres a couple of pick plays in a couple of playbooks that are almost impossible to defend) or young cocky pricks that go for it on fourth all the time, go for 2 every time, and quit if you start beating them....

Haha, if you're serious (which you aren't) I have a Dreamcast I'd love to get rid of! (Along with a PS first generation, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn and N64)

I dunno what's with players stats not getting better and if they do it takes forever. Or if they get better, their weapon stats don't change? Like I can't make my pass/run blockers any better.

The only kind of visible changes I see is always in the TE, WR and RB. I used Eli Manning on my fantasy team (along with a bunch of HOF players) for almost 8 seasons and his stats changed maybe about --- that much. Whats with that?

I f-ing hate that. I traded Campbell and a pick for Vince Young cuz his stats are good but even then, the game loves to F you.

I shoulda been called "Madden '0Rape" instead of Madden 08

I have a big problem with franchise mode, it sucks to the extreme. Before I begin let me just say that I play on All-Pro, in past versions I liked it the most because it's not as hard as All Madden but it's not as easy as the normal. I'm 3 seasons in in my new franchise with the Skins and I am the only team that resigns my players to deals longer than 3 years. I looked at every other franchise in the game, and all of them had no more than 4 guys signed to deals longer than 3 years, compared to 15 of my guys who had a deal longer than 3 years. Anytime a team signs a player that wasn't an original 1st round draft pick by them the deal is for 3 years or less, and the turnover in the free agent market is crazy, I estimate that 75 percent of all the players in madden hit the free agent market after their deal is up compared to 25 percent of the players in real life.

And some of it's just stupid. For example, both Carson Palmer's and Philip Rivers' contracts expired in the same year, and Palmer went to San Diego through free agency (3 year deal, go figure) while Rivers went to Cincinnati through free agency (do I even need to say it, 3 year deal). As for the 1-4 guys on each team that have a deal longer than 3 years, every single one of them was a draft pick in the first round by the team that currently has them. It is so unrealistic and stupid it's crazy.

And another gripe I have is that some franchises do things the exact opposite of the way they would in real life. The Cowboys for instance, build by the draft and add a few key parts through free agency, but in the game, they sign like 20 mediocre free agents to 3 year deals and all their drafted players once their deals are up they don't resign them. In 3 seasons they've gone from being one of the top franchises to having everyone but 4 players have a rating between 65-80, and one of those four players is Mat McBriar, and the only reason he's still on the team is cuz his deal hasn't expired yet. Every team in the league only resigns like 25 percent of its' about to be free agents, and they only resign them to 3 year deals anyways and bring in a bunch of other players for 3 year deals as well.

Overall each year the quality of the players in the league declines, most of the draft picks end up being busts and then they get cut and go to another team where they continue to decline. I'd just like to see each team have more players progress, I'm the only team that actually has players progress from year to year, all the other teams have like 1 or 2 players that progress very little from year to year.

And my last gripe is about the stats. My stats are excellent, mainly because it's so easy to play when 3 quarters of the league is shit. But quarterbacks don't put up good stats at all, usually there's like 1 quarterback that throws above 25 touchdown passes and even guys like Brady and Manning put up average stats. And I hate the running game, mainly because the best running backs in the league average about 2000-2500 yards when they are healthy for the entire season, and they also usually have somewhere between 400 and 500 carries for one season, which is entirely unrealistic.

Overall EA dropped the ball on Madden this year and I don't even know if I'm gonna want to buy it for next gen when it comes out in August because it sounds like a lot of people have issues with the next gen versions as well. And this is the last time (I hope) to be bitching about this game because eventually it's not gonna be worth buying it

all madden still can't handle scrambling QBs. 400-800 yards is pretty easy (Accel clock, etc)... can't handle angled routed and flats and swing routes with a QB (basically making an option type deal) aren't dealt with well at all... at least the spin move doesn't guarantee a touchdown every time you run like in 04.

I played up to Madden '07 on PS2 and got '08 on PS3. My son played '07 on the PS3. Same thing as XBox, the next gen games were rushed out and the gameplay sucks compared to the current-gen. I don't get to play much lately, but was pretty into Madden up thru '07. I'll give Madden another shot in '09, but if the gameplay doesn't significantly improve I'm probably done with it.

Madden 08 on PS2 pretty good I have a PS3 but my son broke it so I have to get it fixed. I like the current gen better than the next generation.

It's not as good as it has been, but by no means do I feel like it sucks. I play on All-Pro because I still like to win and I find that I throw a lot of picks, but it's because I make bad decisions, not because I get screwed.

I also haven't noticed the free agency, I went through 15 years and only a few key players hit the free agent market. I couldn't even add quality depth through free agency, some years were brutal.

I just don't have the same gripe as everyone else.

I gave up Madden and play Action PC football. Lots of leauges to play live online against other guys as opposed to playing the computer. It will also give you extremely accurate results if you replay the season.

It's very sad indeed.

I just hate how I can't play online for madden 08 on 360, since every person I play has some kind of glitch in the game where they sack me every play or get at least 7 yards of offense every play.

If 2k sports started making football games again, they would probably do the same thing as Madden people do, fix the roster(not comletely), add some dumb features, and vuala a brand new game for some genius to buy.

I disagree with your statement. When the 2k series was making NFL games they always up there game from year to year. I was a huge fan of there NFL game over any madden game from that time span. Every year I bought 2k's game no questions asked because they would improve from year to year. Everything about there game was better than madden and EA knew it so that is why they bought the rights to the NFL to legally exterminate any competitors that they may have. It then gives them the ability to become LAZY in there game development and they can go back to do what they did best, just hand out roster updates for $60 a pop...

I dunno about that, some years 2k games were kinda iffy, like the nba 2ks all they do in those is change the roster and the cover, and sometimes they just keep the same person on the cover, like they did for Shaq.

Maybe, maybe not, I can only comment on the NFL 2k series. I never played any of there any other sports games from the 2k group...
