Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
I was wondering what do you guys think about us pursuing him to be our free safety and moving dirty 30 back at strong safety. He wll not cost us a lot of money and should be an upgrade over Doughty. He is only 26 years of age. He is 6-2 206 lbs and is a ball hawk. I loved the way Doughty played for us for down the stretch but let's be real he should not have been starting for us (I miss you Sean). I'm interested in what you guys have to say. In Blache's scheme we will be a pressure defense which relies heavily on turnovers like those Bears defenses when he was there. Hamlin would be great in this scheme.

Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
Hamlin from Dallas? I know he had alot of interceptions.. but i'd need to see more footage of his basic covering / tackling skills. To be honest though, I'd rather take a chance with a safety in one of the later rounds in the draft..

Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
I like Reed Doughty a lot, and I think he'll continue to get better. He's a very sure tackler and takes good angles to the ballcarrier. I see higher priorities in the player acquisition department.

Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
I realy dont think this guy is going to become a free agent
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
yeah I don't think the Cowboys will let him go. And if they do, I think Parcells might jump at him

Laron Landry is an NFL free safety. He is the fastest saftey in the entire league. Using him as a strong safety is a major waste because of his unusual speed even though he is very well suited to play either position. |
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
Perhaps you should change the title, I saw it and was under the impression he is a free agent. Either way I think we have more pressing needs than safety, Doughty played decent enough last year to at least compete for the job this year. Plus everything I've heard indicates that Hamlin is not that good of a safety in coverage.

Laron certainly seemed to make more plays after he was moved to free safety in the last quarter of the season. He wasn't a turnover machine, but he broke up an awful lot of passes and was able to build up speed to put big hits on opposing wideouts. But, I swear that I've read that the coaches want Landry to move back to strong safety, in which case we may very well be in the market for a free safety. I like Doughty, but probably he's not fast enough to play FS and I wouldn't be particularly surprised to see him relegated to a reserve role. |
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
I like Doughty but, the guy is a huge liability in pass-coverage. He always came off as kind of a LB that was just stuck back there. I mean, the guy seems to be a good team guy and he's excellent at stopping the run but, I just don't want to see him in coverage against any teams #1 or #2 receiver.
I think, if we could get him for reasonably cheap, we should. Taking a safety that is proven in this league is a lot better IMO than taking a draft guy and expecting him to be a star from day 1. Not that I'm against drafting a young safety, because that DEF needs to be addressed. I just don't think it could hurt picking him, if for nothing else but depth. |

Or how about Eugene Wilson? If he stays at FS, how about Madeiu Williams? |

Even if he was a Free agent, He wouldn't be cheap, He did make the probowl this year. |
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
If Landry stays at strong safety then a 6 '2 fast free safety would be great, will Blache be mixing safety's up the same way GW did.
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
uh, Landry is probably one of the fastest if not the fastest guy on the team...he needs to stay at free safety
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
WilsoWilso is right.
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
Correct me if i'm wrong but LL started the season at SS & after the murder of Sean "the great 1" Taylor he moved to FS
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
I'm nervous about taking anyone who had their skull cracked. Plus, as has been stated , safety isn't one of our critical needs at the moment.
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
Landry can be a stud at FS.. His range is crazy and he showed good ball skills in the Seattle game.. I thought Doughty, all though he took some poor tackling angles, played well overall.. We've got more pressing needs on that side of the ball (DT, DE) than to focus on the safety position.

Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
kens natural position is strong saftey.
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
If the cowboys let him go I would love to have him in the B & G.
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
I think we should give Doughty another chance and wait to go after Macho Harris at Virginia Tech later on.

Macho Harris is a corner |
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
whats the point man really. safety is the least of our needs first of all and any position can be upgraded on paper. so doughty mey not have a high overall in madden so what. If there is one free agent that i would overpay for and you know its going to happen (hopefully not Briggs) I would get Jared Allen. Hes the man, hes a need, hes white. what more could u ask for

What does that have to do with anything? |

My bad.... all the huge hits made me think he was a safety. |

Yeah that's a pretty stupid comment on his part |
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
I don't get some people sometimes.
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
we need samuel then move spring to f-s
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
has to do with signing hamlin. i say no. whats hard to understand. goingdeep wants to move springs to landrys position thats intelligiant
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
hahaha i just got that haha nevermind my bad..... its a joke

In tell I giant huh? but he also wants Samuels which is a financial dream at this point he will get Clements money so no way we get him and we need Springs at corner especially with Rogers not going to be ready so that is not In tell I giant so signing Hamlin would be smarter (seeing that Hamlin was also a pro bowler this season) |
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
the pro bowl is a joke first of all. sorry for my spelling im typing fast. if we have doughty and landry then how is signing hamlin an intelligent. Like i said earlier.. if were gonna sign someone get jared allen we can actually use him and he is better for his position
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
you would have samuels at r-c and smoot at l-c spring at f-s landry s-s they would be a great def backs
|

I am not 100 sold on Doughty as a starter. By no means am I saying that safety is our main need but in a situation of Hamlin or Doughty I am taking Hamlin. Doughty is a solid back up to me and nothing more. |

We cant give Samuels the kind of contract he wants and still address our needs the way we want to. |
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
ds would fine the way to pay him you can bet on that!!!!!!!!
|
ds would fine the way to pay him you can bet on that!!!!!!!!
i agree with that but i rather just draft a corner. and about putting springs at fs, you always want your faster more athletic safety at free safety in this case Landry |
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
spring can play f-s the way he play in the playoff he can still play with best of them!!!!
|
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
spring can play f-s the way he play in the playoff he can still play with best of them!!!!
make that into a sentence i can read please |
Re: Ken Hamlin - Free Agent!
I think Springs could make a great safety, but I also dont think hes at that point in his career where he should be moved, or would want to be moved from corner. If anything he wants another big corner contract, then move to safety in a few years.
I think we'll draft a corner because its alot cheaper. |
