Wow, that's really surprising. If true, you'd think (regardless of suspension) he'd be at or near the top of everyone's list.

Cerrato states that we need more push on the interior -line. Stroud would be an amazingly upgrade on our line. I know we would like to improve with our youngsters but hey Stoud is a beast and then we could work on working our de and wr via free agency. Cerrato make this happen we need him. Also stoud is an animal at stuffing the run.

I'm always skeptical of the "roids" don't know for sure how much they may, or may not have had an affect on a players performance at any given time.

I feel the same way and wanted to look into it a bit to see what exactly this situation entailed. If you can believe the story, which I am on the fence about, then it may make you feel a bit better about his situation.

Marcus Stroud was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2003, 2004 and 2005 NFL seasons.

In November of 2007 he was suspended for four weeks for drug/substance abuse. Stroud, a three time pro bowler who tested positive for a banned supplement, had a lot to say about the matter. "The only thing that was tough about it is I didn't want people to think I was a cheater”. "God gave me this talent to play football, and I feel like I do it well, and I don't need any juice or anything else to help me." He said a doctor in Atlanta was the one who gave him this over the counter supplement, when he was rehabbing from his off-season ankle surgery. Stroud later commented, that when he received the supplement from his doctor, he checked the bottles ingredients, with the little booklet the NFL gives each player, for illegal substances, banned in the league. He said no ingredient from the bottle was in the booklet, and he thought he was in the clear to take it to speed the process for his return. So when Stroud found out he had tested positive, he was very surprised and upset. Stroud who was disappointed at the time said it was the first time in his career he had ever used a supplement and it would definitely be the last. When serving the month long absence from his team the Jacksonville Jaguars, he was in the city of Atlanta working out hard at a training facility called Competitive Edge Sports. Their Stroud performed at a high level of training to become ready for his comeback to his team. When asked from the media about his time off from the game he had this to say "When you're the only one home, it's boring," Stroud said. "All your friends are working and they look like they're having a great time out there on the field and I had to watch from afar. It was pretty tough. It was something I had to go through. No thank you, Stroud is already in his 30's and has missed 13 games in the past two years. I say if you want to bring in some outside help at DT bring in Dewayne Robertson. Dewayne is 27 and will probably only cost a 5th or 6th round pick.

Dewayne Robertson is a good/great DT, do you think we could get him that cheap??? If so I would have to agree with you. He had a good year last year on a very bad team, I think he would be even better with a team like,.........um lets see......Da Skins!

I would consider it logical for him have some form of legitimate explanation for his suspention as a result of testing positive.

However, with all the controversy [mainly in Baseball] concerning the use of banned substances namely HGH, as well as a variety of other banned substances, any person now whose name is in any way associated with banned substances draws immediate scrunity.

There is no doubt that Marcus Stroud is a top-shelf DT. The last time the Redskins had a DT as good as he can be when he's healthy was probably Dave Butz. The only question is his availablility now that he is on the NFL rdar screen for substance abuse. And with that question, he brings a hefty contract along with him and the need to trade player(s)/pick(s) to get him.

This is a big gamble with potentially big returns - - either positive or negative.

I'd see what the Jags were asking for in a trade and if it wasn't outrageous I'd take a shot at this one. :thumb:


Someone asked about Javon Kearse since he's available. I'd pass on that one even at the venarable 'vet minimum". "The Freak" is no more; now he's more like "The Squeak". :benched:

No freaking way would I give a 2nd rounder for Stroud. He's on the downside of his career. I think we're fine with Montgomery, Goldston and Griff. I'd prefer a DE. Daniels can play DT if needed.

If that was me I would presant a bottle of the stuff to the media and the NFL showing what the lable said and some type of receipt (you know the thing you save showing a business expense for taxes). It mey not save him from a sus. but it might make his argument look much better.

Maybe a second is too high after thinking about it. I would say we stole him if we could get him for a third. He may be thirty, but he is just dominant when healthy.

You guys do realize that he's 31. I don't know if you guys are the same group that complained about Colvin being injury prone but the guy has missed 13 games in the last two years. Very bad trade for anything less then a second day pick, and even then.

Well the reason he's availabe seems to be because he's not cheap. His cap number this year is supposed to be $9.8 million. Of course if the Jets trade him then his signing bonus becomes paid in full, leaving us responsible only for the base salary. However with approximately 10 million in cap room, Robertson becomes expensive. If they did trade for him they would probably restructure and convert part of the base salary into signing bonus.

As I posted in another thread scouts think he would thrive in a good 4-3 system, and as far as I know he plays at the quick DT spot, and with Griffin aging that would be a big help. I even went so far as to say that Robertson reminds me of Griffin coming here a few years ago, granted the Redskins went through with the trade.

Plus 4 sacks in a system thats holding him back seems like a pretty good deal to me. I hope the Redskins make a run at him. If I had to guess I say they'd trade a 5th rounder this year and give an additional 4th rounder in 2010 if he meets certain benchmarks.

I hope that if the Redskins do make a trade this offseason, they don't severly overpay with draft picks like they have done for the past 10 years. If they could get Robertson, Stroud or Jenkins for a 5th or 6th round pick I would say go for it, but please don't be the laughing stock of the NFL again this year and severly overpay for someone. Hopefuly Coles, Hall, Portis, Brunell, LLoyd, Duckett, McIntosh........ etc have taught them a lesson. Other teams are able to get good players for next to nothing, I hope the Redskins can start doing that.
