What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
Unlike the last poll, this time you need to factor in salary. I realize we don't know the salary but we can guesstimate. So factor this in when making your decision. For example, clearly Randy Moss is a better player than Bryant Johnson but he'll command a much larger salary. So is Moss worth it?
|
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
Personally, I think I'd find some way to bring Moss in here. I know it'd be an extreme long shot but I think he's worth it. Even at 50% and disgruntled he's still better than most WRs in the league.
|
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
Right now, I think it would be better for us to sign DJ Hackett to maybe three years or something like that.. So that way we would not have to worry about drafting a WR until next yr?

Moss will be VERY nice but for some reason, I'm having hard time imagining Randy Moss in Redskins uniform.. |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
I said "None, draft a WR." I guess I'm trying to get used to the chance that the Skins are looking at Devin Thomas with that first pick. I just put a post up on my new blog where I explained the reasons why the Skins will probably draft Thomas. Though if I had it my way we'd probably draft Albert.

You spelled Snyder wrong in your blog (just an FYI) |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
I like Bryant Johnson and DJ Hackett at their price levels. I'm not interested in Randy Moss on our team, especially not at his price. Poor fit, I think he'd be hard on Campbell.
Javon Walker would be costly, but I'd like him. Big playmaker. But more than anything, it keeps him from becoming a Dallas Cowboy. |

Lol, holy shit I have a reader. Thanks for pointing out the error. If you find anymore let me know. Also if anyone knows the name of the technique that weakside DT's play please let me know. For example nose tackles play a 0 technique. However I've forgotten the rest of the techniques since playing back in HS. |

I didn't know you had a blog, I'll have to check it out (which shows how much attention I pay to the signature. I think we should go after Moss, I mean people were willing to go after Chad Johnson even though: A. He wasn't available B. He has been a problem this past year for his team C. We would have to trade our 1st and 3rd round picks for him Meanwhile Moss is a free agent, yes he would cost us money (so would CJ), but he could catapult our team deep into the playoffs and possibly a Superbowl. Prior to NE, Moss was in two dysfunctional teams with no player leadership (Vikes/Raiders). In NE not only was he in a good team, but a team with strong leadership (Brady, Vrabel, Bruschi, etc.) I think the Redskins have the player leadership to keep Moss controlled, and I honestly think he would make us a winning team. I think if we make him our only FA signing (from another team), we add youth into our D-Line with our first pick, and add depth to other areas with the rest. |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
I didn't think Walker would command that much money with all his injury issues. Anyway I say Moss or Walker.

Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
Wow thats great news, I hope your wrong though! The NFC East is a bitch. If that is this case maybe we should get Hackett and hope Mix turns into Burress, and focus on a good corner to help counter there actions.

Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
I would take my chances, taking a run at Moss in a minute hes the best WR in the NFL IMO, and on the market and appears to be up for grabs to the highest bidder. Just think how in the world would any D prepare for our offense when you have to double cover Randy Moss all day long. ARE in the slot, Santana the #2 on the outside, Cooley & Portis, Big Mike..... just to many weapons.
No way any team can cover all that talent, a lot like what the pats had everyone knew what was coming but only one team got to a degree lucky enough to stop it for the biggest game of the year. We don't have Tom Brady. But I believe Randy would make JC a better QB, JC just has to get the ball up to this guy, and he will take care of the rest. We all witnessed that time after time last season. I would take Randy hands down over not just STINKO, or anyone on this list, but any WR period. |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
"According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, it's a six-year, $42 million contract, with $16 million guaranteed." Details on the Berrian contract according to PFT (yeah I know they are not that reliable).
This is crazy! This is going to bring up the price for any free agent WR receiver. Can one of you cap gurus figure out what it would take to get Walker or Moss? |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
not a chance i'd bring randy moss in here. he took a 7 mil/year paycut last year. I'd attribute that to his sudden attitude change. He went from a 10m/year receiver to making 3 mil last year. give him a big deal and a losing record and will he help you get out of a slump? Would he have given the kind of effort that took the redskins to the playoffs both years under gibbs? I think when the deck is stacked against him he folds... not worth the dought to me.
|
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
btw, i voted draft. most fa's arent huge improvements

Well we didn't have a losing record last year. But regardless, I think Moss is a better choice than Javon Walker, and definitely Chad Johnson. Otherwise, we draft a WR, and stick with the group that we have now. Or you go after Hackett...(who might be going to the Bucs) or Bryant Johnson (who is being courted by another team...I can't remember which). Vinny and DS have said they want a big time receiver, well there aren't many left. I believe Moss would have done well in Green Bay last year, under Favre's leadership. And I think he can do a good job here. |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
we didnt finish with a losing record because when we had one our guys didn't quit. both years we made the playoffs we had to win out to do it when we were down and had losing records.
i know where we finished, im talking about him getting malcontent when we're losing and he's not getting balls. |

However, while there is a risk of the Redskins having a losing record, I think we are a good team that can take it to the next level with impact players like Moss. Although I must say that after having a headcase like Lloyd, I would be concern about getting a headcase like Moss. Although, the team was considering Chad Johnson (another headcase)...but then again Moss and Johnson are talented and actually produce, unlike Mr. 25 catches and no TDs. |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
It'd be kind of cool to re-sign Reche and draft his brother.
The one guy I really don't think would add much is Bryant Johnson |

Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
I agree Randy Moss hell of a talent like him alot, but Bryant Johnson & D J Hackett much younger and a lot cheaper and we can still hope for Mix to pan out.

Is moss worth it? Look at his numbers! Of course he is! |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
I'd love to see what the draft can bring us. This year's free agent class is filled with very good players who were mid-round selections. Let's give that a try this year.
|
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
I would have to say Walker simply because he has proven to be a legit number one. His numbers in '06 was ridiculous. Denver runs a west coast scheme so the terminology may be a little bit the same which would require less studying and more playing. He is a big wr with some good, soft hands. I don't really see him drop a lot of balls. The only thing that hurts him is his injuries. Without his injuries Javon Walker would be a top-3 or 5 receiver in the league. The best part of it is we do not have to trade our picks to get him just spend some of Snyder's money. Then we draft on the defensive line or trade for Harris, Robertson or whom ever. Walker's only other deal is he believes that he is a number one and I believe if her came here he would be our best wide receiver bar none. Santana's on my bad side right now for the way he gave up on that interception that Collins threw in the Seattle game. I would not be oppose to drafting a wideout or sign Hackett either.

Wow, that is optimistic. Burress was a top 10 pick, Mix was undrafted. Anyway, I'd like Hackett. I am, of course, assuming his money would be more like Jerry Porter money (basically Brandon Lloyd/ARE money) and Javon Walker would be getting Berrian money ... who knows about Moss. I think Hackett is a guy would has a lot of potential who won't really require a bank breaking deal (maybe I'm wrong, these contracts are all pretty huge). He's basically entering his 3rd season as an NFL receiver (since he didn't play his first year and was hurt most of last year). Typically the third year is the time when an NFL receiver 'breaks out'. Hackett showed that ability when healthy last year (two 100 yard games, 3 tds in five games ... avg. 76.8 yards/game ... plus 100 yards and a TD vs. the Skinsin the playoffs). I'm also concerned about Javon Walker's knee. I'm somewhat intrigued by Moss ... visions of Jason Campbell just chucking the ball up in the air and having like 15 tds ... I really don't want to see Moss in Philadelphia, though that seems like a pretty logical place if he doesn't get back to New England. |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
I'd do a lot to get Moss in B&G but I think it would be better for the teams development fir us to bring in DJ Hackett.
|
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
I think Hackett and Walker are the top 2 targets. I'd prefer Hackett myself.

I think we all like the notion of Moss, but no way can we afford, and no way SHOULD we afford his salary. Moss is unatainable for us, if we do sign him, might as well throw our draft picks away cause we won't be able to sign most of them. I voted for Walker, however, that completely depends on his price, and at this point, I am unsure of what he will demand / command. |

EAGLES, 'SKINS OUT OF WALKER SWEEPSTAKES A league source tells us that the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins are no longer among the teams interested in acquiring the services of receiver Javon Walker. There's a suspicion that Walker's agent is puffing in this regard, overstating to the media the interest in the player in an effort to create a market for him. Walker was traded from the Packers to the Broncos in 2006, and was released recently in order to avoid a significant roster bonus[/QUOTE] Granted, this is PFT so take it with a grain of salt, but if true it would seem to indicate that maybe the Eagles think they have a good shot at Randy Moss and maybe the Redskins are thinking of Hackett or indeed drafting a WR (though I really think they don't need to spend a first round pick on one) |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?

They may be. I think the Bucs might be interested in Walker as well. I could see the Titans being interested in Hackett. I know he's interested in them. |

Other than Todd Collins, the Redskins have not signed anyone yet in FA yet? Right?

Ugh. It seems EVERY TIME a blockbuster signing happens, it's in the NFCE. TO a couple years ago and now maybe Moss. Why don't WE take a look at Moss? Apparently he is loving those short term contracts like the Pats gave him. Is he looking for a long term deal? |
Re: What FA Wide Receiver Should We Sign?
Im high on Bryant Johnson -- I think hes a Marcus Washington type signing. Getting ready to hit his stride to be a very good player for us, but won't bankrupt us.

Meaning if we had 2 mil in cap space, and Moss wanted 3 mil, we couldn't sign him. Again, not sure, but what is for certain is that Moss will seek a minimum of 7 mil a year. |

Please bring in Moss, just what Campbell needs in his face.
