Smart move to retain him.

ESPN just reported that the deal is not done, but it's in the works and there are some kinks to iron out.
Either way, it looks likely he will sign with the Pats, and that's a smart move for them. I was hoping that wouldn't happen, but oh well.

Scrap that, ESPN just reported that it is now a done deal.

that's pretty damn cheap for a player who just had a season of the calibur Moss just had.

Re: Randy Moss deal done

I really thought he was getting ready to bolt. I don't know how the Pats continue to be able to convince guys to take less than their market value but props to them for being able to pull it off. Other teams like Philly, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore show a lot of discipline in letting their good players walk, but New England keeps them for less money than they are worth!

I agree with you for the most part, but 9 mil a year is hardly less than he's worth. If he was franchised he would have gotten paid 7.2 mil for 1 year. He went for about what he was worth.

Well I don't mean worth in the abstract sense, I mean what he could get on the open market. I am sure he could have signed a larger contract for longer with more guaranteed, coming off the greatest season in NFL history.

oh well, looks like Culpepper will be stuck either unemployed next season or as a #3 somewhere (my guess is Atlanta). Would have loved to Moss in Green Bay.

I heard he was really close to signing with the Eagles. Phew. Then we would have had to deal with Plax, TO, and Moss two times each in 2008...

Glad he's over in the AFC and not in Philly.

I understand what you're saying. You're likely right, cause there is always that team willing to throw the kitchen sink at someone they believe would turn the franchise around.

ps- we'll see the REAL Randy Moss this year. He had a vested interest to play on every down last year, plus the 16-0 season...now he has his contract, so we'll see if the old Moss comes out or not.

I don't think we have to worry about any drama from Moss in NE as long as Brady is tossing him the ball. He'll probably put up big numbers again in '08.

I disagree. If the team starts losing a little, he could lose interest. Moss has ALWAYS been that kind of guy with the exception of this past season. So I think it's possible you are correct, but I'm not convinced. How do you think Brady and Belicheat will respond if Moss starts taking plays off?

How many games do you think they will lose?

I think NE is a perfect environment for Moss. The team is full of solid leaders and that locker room takes care of itself. I don't think Brady would let him coast, Brady sets the tone and everyone follows his lead.

Hard to say how many they will lose this early, however, they will lose a minimum of 100% more than they lost last year. :D
That team is getting old, and they haven't done much to help. Samuel is gone, Gay is gone, and those LB's are done. That, plus I think McDaniel's offense was figured out means they could lose up to around 6 games. But I will not give an actual prediction until I see how they fill their holes.
Moss was perfect for NE last year, and still could be. Brady needs Moss like Moss needs Brady, but didn't you find it a little strange that Moss wanted to get back with Culpepper?

Well, in reality, of course it is. No one has the space and openings to provide both of them with jobs.

All I'm saying is, time will tell. We'll see if Moss's personality has indeed changed, or the old moss will come back.
