Could be the end of the road for Shaun Alexander now with Morriss and Duckett there.

Yes SS, this would appear to spell the end for Shaun Alexander......and it is a five year deal for T.J.

The last three years have been strange for Duckett to say the least. Maybe he has found a home with a team that obviously feels he has some value. Who would have thought TJ Duckett would be challenging Alexander in Seattle?

Well if you look at TJ's number they are very good it seems that he just does not get the opertunities.

Duckett has never produced as much as his draft position coming out of college would warrant. Even in his year with the Skins, he gave us very little, although I was befuddled that Gibbs didn't utilize him more in short yardage. For me, the name TJ Duckett evokes bitter memories of the two wasted draft picks that Gibbs gave up to get him.

I just read on NFL.com they signed Julius Jones. I thinks its safe to say Shaun Alexander is done.

Yea I was just going to post that as well...Shaun has got to be gone, otherwise they are paying so much money on running backs. i cant imagine they wanted depth behind him.

Shaun cant be cheap to cut though? he just signed a mega deal, what two years ago? cap guys know the answer?

"Shaun signed an 8 year contract in 2006. Within it, Seattle offered Shaun an 11.5 million dollar signing bonus. Now, for the purposes of the cap, that money is spread evenly over all 8 years, 1.4375 million a year. Seattle has paid out 2 years worth of that bonus: 2.875 million, and has 6 more years to pay. If Alexander is cut, that entire remaining bonus is accelerated to the cap year of the cut: 8.625 million."

I don't have much info about Alexander's contract, but based on what this guy says Alexander's release fee is $8.625M.

Actually I think his numbers are off since signing bonuses can only be allocated for a max of 6 years.

So Alexander's release fee would actually be $7.67M.

They are probably waiting for June 1st Im guessing, but I have no idea how much cap they have. If they are have the room maybe they will absord it all this year.

Change that. The max allocation period in 2006 (when Alexander signed his contract) was only 5 years.

So Alexander's release fee would actually be $6.9M.

That doesnt seem like to big of a hit to cut the former MVP of the league

Not only that, if they wait until June 1 to cut him (or pre-designate him as a June 1 cut) it's only a 2.3M hit this year and a 4.6M hit in 2009.

Add to that the fact that his cap number in 2008 (per the article and with Canuck's correction for a 5 year salary proration) is 8.212M and cutting him seems like a done deal.

Let me be the first to say it - I'd sign him for the vet minimum.

Should be interesting to see how Marion Barber holds up against a 16 game season. Let's just say I have my doubts with the way he runs that he'll survive an entire season.

Hopefully the Cowboys will use their two first round picks to trade up and take Reggie Bush I mean Darren McFadden :D.

With deals to acquire T.J. Duckett and Julius Jones in the backfield, the Seahawks will have to do something with Alexander, John Clayton reports.
Cutting or trading him doesn?t have much of an impact on the cap. They would lose $150,000 of cap room by trading him. If they put the June 1 cut on him, they would save $4.475 million of cap room.
One interesting option for Alexander could be the Cincinnati Bengals. Alexander grew up in Florence, Ky., and is popular around Cincinnati. For years, there were plenty of rumors that the Bengals might try to acquire him in a trade.

I wonder why teh Bengals would trade for him, Rudi Johnson is a great back. Granted, they have been trying for years to get him a backup, but I think Shaun probably wants to start somewhere

Thats the thing I noticed, I remember watching his highlights and thinking "Man he doesn't exactly seem afraid of contact, but he can't break a tackle against a quality opponent to save his life." I also noticed that on 99% of his best plays no one even touched the guy. Mayock pointed this out to me so obviously I can't take credit, but the guy always goes down on contact.
