i still like Brunell, but they'll probably bring in some young guy.. :( |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Late round pick like Colt Brennen, Dennis Dixon, maybe John David Booty who is used to a west coast offense. Could be anybody though.
|
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Give Joey Harrington a look. The guy will come cheap, probably for the ...........(looks left, looks right).............veteran minimum. He has experience in the WCO and he'll have Zorn coaching him. Also look for the Redskins to take a look at Dennis Dixon in the 5th round of the draft. Maybe even Erik Ainge with that Comp. selection at the end of the third. Also Dan Synder wanted to draft Harrington with the 18th pick in the 2002 NFL Draft since people were anticipating Harrington free falling the week before the draft.

Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Jim Zorn...
|
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
you guys think colt brennen is gonna be around long enough for the skins to get him?
i think john david booty would be a great choice.and even harrington too. |

Great college QB, possible 1st round pick at one point during the year, and demoted to a possible 3rd round pick before the draft. With that said I don't particullarlyl like him but I woulnd't be opposed to bringing him here in the 5th round. |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
What, no love for Sam Hollenbach? LOL. I'm kidding of course, just being a homer.
|
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Jim Zorn...
Over Randle El? You've got to be kidding me :) I think they like Hollenbach, but they'll definitely draft someone to compete for that last spot. There is someone else who I know Zorn was a fan of (don't know if he still is) but I can't remember his name right now. He was with KC last year I think. |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
dont think any of those guys mentioned will be around 5th or later. Dennis Dixon is one of those guys that may get a look earlier. Brennon especially. the kid from Uconn looks like he may be a project, he was recently denied a 5th year of eligability. He is a little small, but can make all the throws, not sure how well he'd do , but watched him play this year and he can definately play. Brunell may not be totally done here either. They voided his contract, but left open the possibilty of bringing him back if he doesn't get work someone where else, and he said he may be open to being the #3 here. What happened with Dilfer? thought they may look at him since he was with Zorn in Seattle, plus he could be of help getting guys caught up on the system.

Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
It would be pretty cool if Kentucky's Andre Woodson slipped to the 4th round and we got him then. I think it's more important to use the 1st, 2nd, two 3rd rounders on secondary/Oline/Dline, but I'd love him in the 4th. He's 6-5 230, great arm, and can run. Size and skill set is almost a clone of Campbell.

Dont think Woodson is very mobile. I think he is strictly a pocket QB. Campbell is more mobile that Woodson. |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Falcons cut Joey Harrington, maybe he could be our 3rd stringer (I'm 85% kidding)
|
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Maybe we'll just roll with 2 QBs and save the extra roster spot for another position.

Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Here's the guy
Daivd Greene Comment: Greene is extremely smart and has excellent intangibles. He is a lefthander who had a very successful major-college career. He generally makes good decisions and can pick up an offense quickly. He shows good short and intermediate touch and accuracy. Greene has some developmental tools, but he has average arm strength and athleticism. He needs game reps. He doesn't show consistent zip on deep outs and curls. He doesn't change directions or show a lot of elusiveness in the pocket. He won't scramble or make many plays on the move. He can be a streaky passer. |

As a Gator fan, I watch a ton of SEC football. Woodson can move. He's not an option style QB, but he's a pocket passer who can run. Not blazing fast, but not lead footed either- his low 40 time at the combine was 4.72. Jason Campbell? Well his low 40 time at the combine was, get this, 4.72. |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
I would say maybe draft Josh Johnson but the guy threw WAY to many interceptions last year.
|
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Glad to see some fellow SEC fans here. I bleed UT Orange as well as Burgudy. Their are some very good QB's in the SEC. The best still being in Gainesville at the moment. Having said that, I would personally like to see Eric Ainge taken by the Skins in one of the later rounds. I think he has a ton of talent and with Zorn as a tutor in a couple of years he would be a very good back up.
As a side bar comment to GMScud. Yes I am a big UT fan but have ties to Gainesville. |

What ever happened to Jordan Palmer?

Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Bet we get an old guy who knows WCO. I'm a believer in Collins at #2 but he has followed Saunders his whole career. Zorn is going to want a backup just in case Collins falls on his face with the WCO... Bet its Dilfer, or whose the #3 in Seattle? I bet Booty goes to Green Bay if Favre really retires. then they will get an old man to back up Rodgers... oh yeah... Redskins forum. Sorry.
|
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
If we draft our 3rd stringer I like Kevin O'Connell,Colt Brennan,John David Booty or Bernard Morris.Fa though I'm leaning towards Joey Harrington,Ryan Fitzpatrick or Brian St.Pierre.

Get Brett Farve to come back

Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
I actually heard on 980 about a week ago that Zorn said their definitly going to draft a young prospect.
If not, I heard Dilfer is a possibility. |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Stay with 2 QB's only but keep a young prospect on the practice squad. Use the extra spot for linebacker or O-line depth. I'm semi-serious. Randle-El could be the emergency #3 QB should Campbell and Collins go down.

I like that idea up until we actually lose Campbell and Collins to injury in the same game. What the hell, LETS DO IT! |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Once you get down to your #3 you're typically screwed anyway. I'm still not sure I would want to risk going with only 2 QBs though.

I can see where he is comming from though because of ARE's college experience as a QB. Hopefully he would only have to hand the ball off. |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
To my knowledge, Denver is the only team that keeps 2 spots on the roster for QB.

I thought that Cowher did it in Pittsburgh as well. I am not sure that Tomlin still does it though. |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
How about Chris Simms when he is cut?
|
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
A quick check and they show 3 on their roster right now.

I agree with your 85%. He has played on nothing but shitty teams his whole career. While he's not a superstar, I wouldn't mind him one bit as a backup. |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
How about Chris Simms when he is cut?
Apparently he's looking much healthier and really sharp in drills. Supposedly the Bucs tried trading him to the Vikings. Minnesota passed, but apparently they are still talking. |

I saw 4 of them, regardless it is still more than 2. |
Re: Redskins 3rd string qb next season?
Simms would be a good look and the Bucs have a QC carousel.
Now that we have the WCO, we need to look to teams that run that offense for a backup. If not, just draft a QB, but I'd rather wait til next year to do that |
