We Should draft Jordy Nelson - Kansas State WR in the 3rd

I saw him toast Aqib Talib multiple times last season in the Kansas vs Kansas State game. He was clearly faster then Talib smoking him down the sideline after a catch by a good margin (Talib runs a 4.44). Everybody who watches tape on this guy is falling in love with his game up here. He could be there in the 3rd round... hopefully he's high on the skins draft board.[/B][/COLOR][/FONT]

It all depends how the draft unfolds... If a freakish athlete at a position hard to fill like CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie falls to us he would be hard to pass up. Branden Albert from UVA is an absolute beast on pulling plays and would be one of the best athletes at guard in the league next year would be hard to pass on. And James Hardy the 6'5" WR from Indiana who could be the best athlete at the position in the draft this year would a great pick as well. Another freakish athlete who could dominate games ala Plaxico Burress.

I would honestly be extremely happy with any of these 3 guys. Hard to pick a favorite.

You never know how it will unfold on draft day... if he drops to us he would be really hard to pass up. He would be dominant force as a pulling guard and could play tackle as well. If he's gone Chilo Rachal from USC in the 3rd should be a Guard on our radar.

Believe I know his capabilities, because I have watched him at our games for the past 3 years. A beast to say the least. Received a lot less hype because of Chris Long, but a great player.

Isn't it fun having draft picks to talk about??? I would approve of a Jordy Nelson in the third, and I would REALLY like Albert in the first. If we do in fact get an extra 3rd round compensatory pick, we could snag two eventual starters in that round.

I hope he would be there, but as the premium on big receivers heightens closer to draft day, we may have to take him in the 2nd.

Look at his bio. He would be Joe Gibbs version of the perfect Redskin. He has all of the things that you can't teach, including speed.

If he does fall to the third, we may have to trade up to get him. Its hard to see an All-American and/or Heisman candidate fall out of the first day( see Troy Smith).

Just watched that video... some of those stop-on-a-dime cuts he makes right after the catch are sick. And that speed burst on the play where he toasts Talib is pretty awesome. He could easily be gone before the 3rd round. He's a hell of a lot better than Anthony Gonzalez (Ohio St WR), and Gonzalez was drafted in the late first rd last year.

if its our comp 3rd or doesn't stop us from getting a good value with the comp 3rd (by taking him at #21 that round), then that's fine.

hardy is a 1st rounder, and is probably gone before we can take him. he also has possible character issues.


and again, if you look at his highlights, an awful lot of them wouldn't happen in the NFL due to faster players and smaller windows. that doesn't mean he'll suck, but it'll be much harder to put up the numbers he had in college.

If Albert fell to us at 21 and we passed I would be pretty damn mad. I don't think that'll happen. He is a safe pick and someone will probably pull the trigger on him between 10-15.

I hear you, but he dominated eilte CB's in college lke Aqib Talib and the Big 12 is not a cupcake conference. If we took Nelson and put him out there with Moss and Randle El... I would take Nelson vs most Nickel CB's in the NFL.

I like where we are in the first at 21. Talent runs deep at a lot of positions. At this point depending at who's mock you look at Albert could be there for us. In a month let's see where he's projected to go.

I like Albert a lot too. I think he's a great fit for the skins for a no. of reasons, but especially for his versatility. He could start at guard immediately, but he's agile & big enough to play tackle & could be a long-term replacement for Jansen in a couple years.

No such thing as a safe pick with the 1st round.

He may have the tools, but he may also lack the awareness and playing exp as Kendall and Thomas.

He would be a good "solid" pick, but depth has never been something addressed in the first round, for as long as I can remember.

1st round is for holes and other things that your team immediately lacks (i.e. pass rush, cover corners, and big play-making wr). If we took Albert, we would be good for the future 2-3 years from now, but next year we'd still be missing an "impact" guy at the aforementioned positions

He's not a depth pick he would be starting next year. He is an absolute wrecking ball on the field... Never seen a guard with this many pancakes in the open field

doubt it. he's generally predicted in the 20-28 range. G and Cs in the 1st are the safest picks because very few are talented enough to be considered that early. it does tend to work out though (when you don't reach excessively like the bucs).

Look back at some old mock drafts and see how many picks ended up being correct. Usually it is about 3/32. We shall see, the draft is pretty unpredictable despite all the effort that all these experts put into coming up with mock drafts for our collective consumption. I would like so see some Virginia players on the Skins, I don't think they have any and, as I told my wife the other day (Tech grad), every player from UVa drafted in the first three rounds going back to 1996 has turned out to be a good to very good player (with the exception of Jon Harris ... but the Eagles totally reached on him anyway). I suspect the Skins will probably choose to address other needs (WR, CB, DE) in the first and wait on OL until the later rounds.

well nfldraftscout actually tracks their accuracy, but when they say they got 27/32 right, they mean right player, right spot OR right player, wrong team, OR right position, right spot, OR right player anywhere in the first round, so there's some padding there.

i'm almost convinced the dolphins take long (DE version) #1 based on thier FA, and ryan to the falcons seems to be a near lock too. long (OT) to chiefs seems right too. you could lock the top 8 if you figure out who actually wants mcfadden and which CB the patriots are willing to take if they can't trade down (jenkins, mcklevin, DRC).

Jake Long is a good bet to go to the Rams at #2. Chiefs would like to trade down. If they stay where they are Clady or Ellis are the likely options.

O-line is a safe place to draft, but we need help elsewhere, bad.

We need a DE bad too.

I think last years draft showed that the right rookies can be Pro Bowlers at tough positions if given the opportunity:

I just think we need to not draft players like Rod Gardner, Taylor Jacobs, Andre Johnson, Michael Westbrook, Tom Carter, Desmond Howard or Bobby Wilson in the first or second rounds. I think we've done well recently in the 1st with Samuels, ST, and Landry but we have been burned repeatedly with WR's that high

I would love it if we picked Albert. In the short run, we'd be essentially getting four picks for the price of one since Albert could be a backup at both guard and tackle positions. In the longer run, we will need a new starting RT, RG, and LG and Albert would certainly fill one of those needs.

Well maybe we could, but history tells us that most of the elite top tier interior lineman are found in the first round, while other come from the second. By the way it took Dockery about 2 or 3 years to come on, so if we do draft an O-lineman one the second day then theres a good chance that we would have to wait a few years for him to develop. Albert will only take a year to develop since we'll have to get his strength up to par, in order to make him an elite Guard.

Besides I don't understand the disdain towards Albert. If we take him in the 1st round then theres a good chance that we could take your boy Jordy in the second or third. Look we've drafted Offensive lineman during the Gibbs era in the 5th or 6th round like you've suggested and now those guys are off the team.

Given how we've struggled for years with injuries along the O-line and that none of our starting O-linemen are in their 20s, I'm quite surprised that anyone would oppose drafting an O-lineman in the 1st round. Do we need an impact #1 wideout? Sure, but I wouldn't expect to find a WR with the 21st pick who will be an immediate, impact player. Do we need a CB? Sure, but we have Springs, Smoot, and Rogers on the roster. IMO, our most pressing need is along the line.

Don't worry, when our running game returns to the 1337 level then people will be more then pleased with us drafting Brandon Albert. Plus with Albert and Heyer we'll have our pair of bookends set for possibly the next decade. Plus as I said before, if we draft Albert in the first then the chances of us taking Jordy in the 2nd or 3rd increase. Personally I would love to see a draft with Albert in the first, Jordy in the Second, and Dre Moore in the third, however Moore might not last that long.

I don't think people realize that we have a better group of Recievers then most teams in the NFL. This desire for a playmaker at Reciever is way off base to me. People see what Randy Moss did last year and think "WOW I WANT THAT" Usually teams that are looking for "the answer" at Wide Reciever go through a lot of trouble to find that guy. And in some cases it means poor Quarterback play. Which to me isn't much of an issue with Zorn tutoring Campbell. I mean the names Branch and Burleson don't exaclty strike fear into the hearts of defenses but the Seahawks have one of the NFL's best passing attacks.

Conversly the Cardinals have two of the games best recievers and still can't get past 8-8. And ironically people have been blaming the Cardinals lack of success due to poor O-Line play, of course thats changing as of late with Grimm there but still.

there's nothing wrong with going OL in the first, but the hardest two positions to fill are franchise QB and elite pass rushing DE. If harvey or merling (or DRC) are there, i'd lean towards them first, since DL is deep this draft and there always seem to be starting NFL guards around the 20-30th picks every year.

Champ, Nnamdi, and maybe Nate Clements are the only shutdown CBs in the NFL (Cromartie has a chance if he continues to develop). Samuel, Tillman, Winfield, Springs, Trufant, Ronde Barber, Newman, Leigh Bodden, McAllister, and Rasheen Mathis are all guys I'd want on my team, but I can't say any of them are really lockdown type players, and that makes a difference.

Jordy is a player. I had season tickets to Kansas State last year and got to see him live for six of their games. I would be very pleased if the Skins happened to pick him up.
