I say o-line. Once they get it together...then the running game will be alot better too
|
I went with the Poor QB play. I'm a bit worried they aren't in sync, and I know that this situation will right itself. I just hope it's not too late.
The running game is scary too. I really haven't seen a single spectacular play out of Portis. I realize it's preseason and it's a vanilla offense, but a guy with his speed, quickness, and moves should be able to break at least one for over 15 yards! |
I went with poor QB play, because if Daseal says so.....
Seriously though, while it is only the preseason I'd like to see a little more out of Brunell and especially Ramsey. I want the starting QB come opening day a case of the better of the two taking the field, not the less unimpressive. |
I went with it's just the preseason.
The QB play will improve with time and reps. The offensive line will also fall in place with time, and with the line jelling the running game will pick up too. Let's also keep in mind this offense is pure vanilla right now, I think it was Brunell that said the defense pretty much knows what play is coming. Still, it would be nice to see some flashes next week in Miami. |
I voted nothing cuz it's preseason and with Gibbs almost as paranoid, if not as paranoid, as parcells, he hasn't really given the offense much in the way of plays or formations to really show what the offense is capable of. Plus the teams need a good rhythm built and I'm sure its a bit wierd for the wrs, rbs, and o-lineman switching qbs from righty to lefty to righty. plus I'm sure most of the players won't be in actual regular season game shape til the next week or two and cutting some of the training camp scrubs and then we should have a better idea of what the team is really capable of.
|
its just preseason, gibbs is going straight vanilla, which is too predictable to have much luck against nfl defenses... he's not putting them in good positions; I just hope the QBs don't lose confidence by the time they unveil the real playbook.
o-line has actually done well for the injury they took... the skins have still led the league for 5 years straight in player/coaching turnover, and what you're seeing is that a lot of players aren't comfortable with yet another scheme. there's a good chance the still won't be comfortable during tampa, but i'll wait till game 5 ends before i start to panic. |
didnt know what to choose...
- poor QB play hurts the team's morale as a whole - offensive line/running game but my biggest concern is INJURIES - LavColes' big toe throughout the whole season, will NEVER be 100%! - Thomas and Barrow are old men w/ chronic, nagging and very present knee injuries - Sean Springs has been delicate in his years playing - DIRTBAG #1 :( |
My biggst concern is the Spurrier factor. Mistakes are playing a huge part in the games and yet again we are defeating ourselves . This is a ways into the preseason and Ramsey is still fumbling exchanges it is embaressing and simply shouldn't be happening .
|
I went with the O-line, just because dasael went with QB play  No really I have to believe the better the O-line play's the better the running game will get, and the better the QB play will be, I want to see Ramsey on occassion to be able to get comfortable in the pocket, he was pressured the whole time, Brunnell was a little quicker at getting rid of the ball, but I think that will come with time for Ramsey.
|
I voted "nothing, it's the preseason", because I have faith in Joe. I don't believe that he's too worried about winning the preseason games, he just wants to find out who will be the starters (in a few positions), and who will be the backups for many other positions. Staying injury free is the biggest concern, for any team, during preseason play. In addition, I'm old enough to remember Gibbs' first stint as head coach of the Skins. In his first year, they went 4-0 in the preseason, only to start off the real season with an 0-5 record. BTW, they finished the season with an 8-8 record. In Gibbs' 2nd year, they went 0-4 in the preseason, and won the Superbowl. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they'll go to the Superbowl this year, but at the same time, I think it's far too early to get worried.
|
I can't believe everyone is falling for this notion that "well, the offense is vanilla - that's why they can't get anything going."
If you follow that argument to its logical conclusion, then the offense will somehow perform better when more complicated plays are called. I know it's going to take more time and reps. But if they can't run basic bread-and-butter plays smoothly by the third game, I'd say there's real trouble. |
Joe Gibbs and i agree with you B&7
|
It's just the preseason so its not time to worry yet. This is typical Gibbs, when he won his last super bowl he went 0-4 in the preseason. give it time.
|
I picked poor QB play. If we cant get simple plays right they arent going to respond better to calling audibles and sending guys in motion all the time. gibbs runs a complex offense, and will do a lot of what Payton Manning is so good at. Plus, its more of a concern becuase we dotn know who our starter is. If we knew then it wouldnt be as big of a deal and can say its just preseason, but these guys are out there trying to win a job, and if this is all they are brining to the table its not a good sign. Its still early but someone needs to step up and act like a leader on that offense.

O line, O line, O line, O line, O line!!!!! That's for all five of them! It's the same old story about this group!
O line, O line, O line, O line, O line!!!!! That's for all five of them! It's the same old story about this group!
it's true. man, never thought this year's Dline would be outperforming the Oline! even with our man Jansen out (sniff). go figure. c'mon Buges... |
Only the second game of the preseason... we will know by September whether there is any real cause for concern...
|
I see a lot of players pulling up rather than going all out, that has to be due to the preseason.
|
Whether it's for the good, bad, or indifferent, I'm willing to bet that the Redskins team we see on September 12 will not resemble the team we will have seen throughout the preseason. Come the regular season in every NFL city, the scrubs are gone, the position battles are decided, and the A-gameplan is pulled out. When I watch these preseason games, I don't hoot or holler or get upset - the games that count haven't even started.
|
Ramsey is my concern. Fumbles and poor decisions.
|
Yeah! What he said!
didnt know what to choose...

Cable out. Game #1, inconclusive. |
O-line. This is the key to all of the things Gibbs does on offense. They're not playing badly, especially given the Jansen thing, but they've got to be good if we've got a shot at the playoffs this year. So they are the biggest concern. But given the presence of Joe Bugel and Joe Gibbs, I am not worried.
As for the QB play, when we have a proper running game and a solid o-line, both Ramsey and Brunell will be fine. But the star of this offense will be Clinton Portis. |
I said poor QB play, but I think it will come around....I almost voted for "it's just preseason". As sloppy as it's been, consider that they have kept it pretty much even for both games....against a good team with a veteran coaching staff that's been there for years, and the NFC champs. Other supposedly good or great teams are being blown out (i.e. Dallas, Philly, etc).
I am concerned about the QB's, but not so much that I'm worried. Brunell is rusty from not playing most of last year, and we all knew that it might take some time for Ramsey to get the "Spurrier-isms" out of his system. As for the O-line and the running game, it seems like they are just starting to get into a rhythm when they are done. Give them more time in the game, and they will get it together. |
I think it is still too early to tell. The inconsistent qb play does concern me more than the running game because with Rock Cartwright getting most of the carries I don't think you can access that fairly; he just isn't an impressive runner. If Betts was available I think we would get a more accurate accounting of the running game because Gibbs isn't going to run Portis much in the preseason. Ramsey looks to me like he is playing scared--maybe that is a holdover from getting hit so much last season, but he seems to be playing his way out of starting.
