tinted windows?

I'm getting a new Ford Fusion in the next few days and I'm thinking of getting the windows tinted. Do you guys think it's a douchebag look or is it cool? The car is black, so I'm thinking the black on black might look sweet.

Absolutely it will look great.
Granted this is coming from a guy that lives in an erea where tinted windows is NEEDED, but we made sure my wife's new Camry had them, and it looks great with the metallic charcoal paint job.
It's worth it.

Re: tinted windows?

There's nothing douchebaggy about tinted windows. It's not just the look, it seriously just makes you feel super confident in your car. I have mine illegally tinted for here in VA, I don't know the laws up there, so if they have them, just check your local laws and go about 7-10% darker.

Are you also going to get a huge exhaust pipe, some chrome rims, and a 4' high spoiler?

J/k, I don't think tinted windows look bad at all.

Re: tinted windows?

I liked tinted windows. Unfortunately my car was bought for me so I didn't get a choice of what I wanted, it was just a take it or leave it kinda thing.

If I had my way though, I'd def get tinted windows. Go for it!

Re: tinted windows?

The interior is also black so I'm thinking that tinting the windows would help keep it alot cooler in the summer.

Re: tinted windows?

Tinted windows are great, and I don't think it makes you look like an ass. Like Js said it can be a privacy benefit as well. Are you getting tints from the dealer or aftermarket? I suggest aftermarket tints, because they can be cheaper and better looking.

Obviously it is possible to tint over the legal limit, and it would be wise to find what that is. In VA, the legal limits are too strict, but most police don't pull you over just for the tints, it would be a secondary offense.

Aftermarket. I have a friend who got them done recently and they did a nice job so I'm gonna go to the same place to get them done.

Re: tinted windows?

I will never buy a car again and NOT tint the windows. You can even get clear tint that will still reduce the heat in the car on a sunny day and reduce the UV light that gets into the car by over 99%. It protects the leather and you from those rays.

LA Tint did my last car (and they came recommended to me). They did a great job and I in turn will now recommend them. (This is, of course, for those people who are in the Northern Virginia area. Sorry, Matt.) But it at least gives good information on there about tinting and why you should. (I went with the ceramic tint (which they call Ultimate), but only as legal as I could in Virginia... which isn't much as far as darkness.)

I would definately say do it, though. (In case THAT wasn't clear!)

Re: tinted windows?

When I bought my car, it already had tint on it. Then I went to get it inspected and failed. New Jersey doesn't let you have any tint at all. I could barely even tell the difference when I took the tint off too. It was total bull.

Re: tinted windows?

One more vote for tinting the windows.

You only look like a douchebag if the tint is Blue( or any other color other than black) and is bubbling.

I had a light tint added to mine the day after it bought it. I went for the 30% tint. Lets in light but keeps things dark enough so that I can still bang a few hookers without getting caught. Also, In california you cannot tint the driver or passenger windows. If you go to dark here, You will get a fix it ticket and have to have it removed.

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to check your local laws and see what % visibility is legal in your state. In Oklahoma tint laws are practically non existent and I've only seen a few cases of people getting tickets when they've tinted their front windshield which is obviously a big no no. I've driven around for about 2 years with 5% tint and haven't even been looked at twice by a cop. Anyways, as far as whether or not to do it I think you should. It makes it much nicer in the summer (especially if you have leather), added privacy is sweet if your a nose picker, and visually they make a car look much better in my opinion. I bet if you look on www.cardomain.com you can probably find someone who has a Fusion with tinted windows to give you an idea what it will look like. I have a black galant with tint I could post a pic of if you want. Good luck with it man.

Re: tinted windows?

I have Black on Black and it looks good IMO. It sucks though because I got pulled over in DC because it was too dark. Cannot drive that particular vehicle in DC again (without huge fine). I refuse to remove it.

Here is a little something to help you stay legal New York Window Tint Law - TintCenter.com

cpayne5 03-20-2008 08:59 AM

Re: tinted windows?

NY laws state that tint must allow more than 70% of light to pass through (front and rear). This is very strict. Here in VA, the laws are (50%/35%). I run 35% on my vehicles and have had no problems with the cops here.

You should check with other people in your area that have tint to see if the cops generally leave them alone. It's a risk getting "illegal" tint, but a lot of the time the cops really don't care as long as the windows are not completely black. :)

I just bought a black on black vehicle, too, Matty. I plan to put 35% front and rear to keep it cool in the summer. There is actually a point where tint darkness absorbs more heat than it blocks, and actually makes your car hotter, so don't go too dark.

Not only that, if you don't have a high profile (like my brother who drives a dropped WRX with rims) and in general are a good driver, they have better things to do than hassle you.

Yeah, they'll leave you alone as long as you don't have limo tint and 22's. :D

Re: tinted windows?

I had an 03 g35 sedan that was black with black interior. I blacked out the windows, and put clear marker lights on it (because the amber ones were very noticable) and put a small deck spoiler on the back to really set the car off... It looked really nice.... go for it.

Monkeydad 03-21-2008 10:10 AM

Re: tinted windows?

The only other suggestion I have for your car:

Tint the taillights. Spray-on tint called Nightshades is sold online and in most speed shops. Do 2-3 light coats, then clearcoat it so they'll last forever.

The chrome tails on the Fusion are about the only part of the car I don't like. They just clash, especially on a black car. Plus, they look like they belong on a Civic with a giant airplane wing and fart cannon. ;)

Go from THIS:

Monkeydad 03-21-2008 10:14 AM

Re: tinted windows?

Oh, and the light shines through fine with the tinted tails. You shouldn't have any legal problems as long as you don't go too black and the car will look amazing all blacked out.

I've always wanted to see a fully blacked-out Fusion including windows, taillights and the chrome grilles painted black or maybe even tinted to a black chrome with that spray.

YUMMY.

Summit Racing is a GREAT place to buy car stuff, they have the best customer service and low prices.

Re: tinted windows?

Like others have stated, check to see what the NY vehicle safety inspection
laws are. In VA you can change lamps, but they must be of an approved type. Tinting is regulated, unless have a medical waiver. If you do tint in VA it must be of an approved type.

Congrats on the Fusion, a great car.

Got my new car on Friday and so far I'm really impressed. The ride is nice and smooth and very quiet. The interior is huge, I can't get over the room. Of course you're talking about someone who's had nothing but compacts for the last 10 years or so. I'm calling around to get estimates for the window tinting, I'll probably get it done next week. Here's a few pics

I've already got a TomTom so I didn't go for the nav.

Along with the spoiler I have a moon roof, premium audio system, and Sirius radio.
