Steelers Cut WR Wilson After Arrest

ESPN - Steelers cut Wilson after he's arrested for allegedly punching ex-girlfriend - NFL

The key word to this whole story is allegedly they didn't even wait to get the whole story.

I think they've been looking for an excuse to get rid of him for a while and this was it.

The Steelers have always been a class act... why put up with anyone who is going to hit women?

This is my whole take on this situation and I do not and am not a believer in hitting females regardless the situation. But my cousin was locked up for over five years for an assault charge on his ex-wife that he didn't do. If a female has a mark on her face or body and claims you did it in Alabama (where I stay) it's a wrap you go to jail without it being proven to be true. My cousin never touched her I was an eye witness at his trail at the age of six he was babysitting me at the time and they claimed i was brainwashed to tell the judge my story. Ever since then it left a bad taste in my mouth about females claims about things. So he lost his job for an alleged attack probably will be suspended by Goodell and what if he never did it? Not saying he didn't do either just all males watch yourself please!!!

Hitting a woman is not right, and shouldn't be tolerated. But you are correct, it's your word against hers. If there is a mark, no matter how small or what it looks like, your going to jail. Same way with Rape, and any other type of assult involving a female.

Dudes got to be careful now. Long gone are the days of the gorrilla pimp.

The only situation where it is understandable for a man to hit a woman is if she is trying to kill him. Other than that I can't condone any other situation where hitting a woman is right.

One of my good good friends was up at JMU during one of their many BIG oarties they throw there. Well anways, he met this girl and they were having a good time and they both got drunk and they started to mess around, well a cop or ABC agent or someone came and busted up a party and found them two messing around and teh girl automatically pretended like she was uncounsious and acted like she didnt know what was going on. All because she was embarrassed to stand up and say they were messing around. Well anyways, they press charges on him and arrest him. They go to court and the girls roommates even testify that she was with him all night and that she was walking around with her hands down his pants and saying "he's jsut so nice" but yet she tried to lie just because she was embarrassed to stand up and say she was having a good time. Well he was already on probation prior to that for a DUI, and they had found weed on him as well, so taht violated his probation. Even though he beat the case of the girl accusing him of that bullshit, he still has to sit in jail for two years for violation of probation becuase of that girl. IT's not always the mans fault. Women are very vendictive and really dont give a shit about you when it comes down to it. But I know the same can go for both sides. So everyone just needs to be careful and stop all this stupid crap.

My friend steven wont get out of jail til '09 and has been there for over a year.

When I was in 6th grade this BIG girl came up to me and tried to start fightign me and I kept backing up and telling her I dont hit girls and she kicked me in my balls, I still told her to stop and continued to back up and she kicked me AGAIN and that time it hurt REALLYbad and my first reaction was to step forward and punch her in her forehead. she hit the ground and I felt bad, but I knew I had to do it.. I will never hit a woman again but I was in 6th grade and I was maybe 90lbs and she was like 140-150.

Re: Steelers Cut WR Wilson After Arrest

I would never attack a woman unless I was forced to defend myself. And even though the key word in this story is "allegedly", I tend to believe it's true simply because it happened in a public restaurant and there were witnesses who saw the whole thing and told the police what happened. I don't think witnesses would lie to the police about something like that. And Wilson sounds like a real asshole to me, but his g/f sounds like one as well so there's blame to go all around, I remember hearing that story about how she was in a standoff with cops back in January.

skinsfan69 03-20-2008 08:01 PM

Re: Steelers Cut WR Wilson After Arrest

It all comes down to the women you run with. Like Mooby said Wilson and his G/F have had run ins with the police before. It seems that they bring out the worst in each other. I think this is the 3rd time a Steeler has had issues with hitting women. Davenport, James Harrison and now Wilson. I think they wanted to send a message.

Yeah, has nothing to do with the fact he had 18 catches in 2007. Somehow management missed Najeh Davenport's episode, or is he just less replaceable. Look, business is business and they are going to do what is in the best interest of the club so please spare me this was a "class act" move. If #7 slapped someone around, would the "nation" demand they hand their starting job to Charlie Batch?

Your friend is not in jail because of that girl. He's in jail because he's an idiot who refused to comply with the conditions of his probation. The moment he took possession of the weed, he was in violation and deserved having his probation sentence revoked.

PFT made a good point, though. A few weeks ago, one of the Steelers' starters was arrested for a domestic incident, but he wasn't cut. Wilson, a back-up, is cut even though he's only been accused. A case of double standards here?

I agree.. While she may have been wrong, he caused his own downfall by the foolishness of his decisions..

Back on topic, I'd never hit a woman. Never ever hit a woman. But I'd shake the sh*t out of one! (Chris Rock-Bring the Pain, available on DVD)-sorry had to be done.

Re: Steelers Cut WR Wilson After Arrest

I was raised never to hit a woman and I would never, however, legally, if she hits you first and you hit her back, she is just as liable in a court system than a man. You will both be charged and she will get the harsher of the punishment for starting it. If its me though, I say there is always a way out of a room. If a woman hits me, I leave and call the athorities. A woman will be prosecuted just the same as I would if I hit her. Nowadays, regardless of sex, it is really hard to justify hittting anyone, even if it is in self defense.

When I was 15 I got into a fight in school with a kid that had been picking on me since kindergarden. He pushed my head into a brick wall so I broke his jaw... we were both charged as adults with assault and battery. He plead guilty and I plead innocent. He got juvie, probation, and 250 hours community service, but the judge told me I should have "assumed the fetal posistion until help arrived." He senteced me to probation and 100 hours community service.

Ummm yeah. Insert "Ben Roethlesberger" for "Cedric Wilson" and are there any doubts that the official line would be "We're looking into it - we want to make sure we get Ben's side of the story blah blah blah".

Re: Steelers Cut WR Wilson After Arrest

The following is a comment from Pro Football Talk:

"Perhaps in response to criticism of the comments of Steelers chairman Dan Rooney regarding the decision of the team to cut backup receiver Cedrick Wilson and keep linebacker James Harrison when the two players essentially engaged in the same conduct, the team has issued a statement that attempts to clarify Mr. Rooney’s remarks.

Here’s the full text of the release:

To clarify the comments made earlier regarding the conduct of our players, in no way do we condone domestic violence of any kind. Each incident must be considered on a case-by-case basis

In the situation with James Harrison, he contacted us immediately after his incident and has taken responsibility for his actions.

“In today’s decision with Cedrick Wilson, we determined the situation was severe enough to warrant the player being released immediately.

“We trust that today’s roster move will indicate our intentions and send a message that we will not tolerate this type of conduct.”

Um, we’re not sure that this really clarifies anything. Wilson, as we understand it, was cut before he was even charged — and he has taken full responsibility.

No matter what the team says, people are going to believe that Harrison got to stay with the team because he’s a star, and Wilson didn’t because he isn’t. And those people probably are right.

Moving forward, things definitely will get interesting when the next Steeler player gets arrested for roughing up a female. If, for example, the culprit is Ben Roethlisberger or Willie Parker or Hines Ward, will the team reiterate its message? Or will the team find a way to distinguish the situations?

“Well, you see, Cedrick’s incident happened on a Wednesday. This one happened on a Saturday. And we all know that Saturday night’s all right for fighting.”

Ideally, the players will simply get the message, and none of them will strike, push, shove, choke, kick, punch, cold cock, knee, elbow, head butt, tackle, bend, break, and/or bop any of the ladies in their lives."

Damn bro. That judge was a BITCH!!!. He expects you to sit there and get hit? WTF??

Back in college I use to date a girl who got very violent when she drank too much. Always starting fights with me, kicking me in the balls, punching me and what not. Guess I deserved it casue I cheated. But I never hit her back. But one time she got in my car and drove drunk and tried to run me over outside of her apartment. So I yanked her ass out of my car so she wouldn't hurt anybody. Well when I yanked her out of my car she fell down and sprained her wrist. Cops came and told her to go inside and sober up and arrested me for simple assault. I learned a lesson. Never hang around people that are violent or get violent cause even if you're trying to defend yourself, or your property, you could end up getting arrested. Total 100% bullshit.

Sounds like the lawyers are back in town.

This is from the original article:
Wilson apologized and said he will be treated for anger management.

"I shouldn't have done it. I hold myself to a higher standard than that," he told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I just want to apologize to Lindsey, her family, the NFL family and the Pittsburgh Steeler nation. I let them down."

Lindsey Paulat told police that Wilson pushed her on the shoulder at the Patron Mexican Grill on Wednesday night. She said when she turned around he punched her in the left side of her face, according to the complaint.

Stories have a tendancy to change when the consequences are fully realized.

See that what I was talking about he could have shook the hell out of her or pushed her hard he probably didn't hit her. He could have apologized for it being advertised everywhere giving him and the Steelers a bad name.

Sorry dude. She could also be covering up because they BOTH stand to lose much more ($$$) with the original version. By changing her story (perhaps) all that is lost is her dignity.

Besides, giving him the benefit of the doubt that he "only" shook the hell out of her or pushed her hard is hardly an acquittal. Where I come from, that is a physical assault.

It was James Harrison, one of their starting linebackers, he had a breakout year last year, if I were in the Steelers position I would have done the same thing to Cedric Wilson, but I would have probably diciplined James Harrison.

Look I understand what you are saying I'm giving the situation the benefit of the doubt. I'm just saying females are dirty they will change stories to get what they want from a celebrities or people with money like Kobe I'm pretty that woman let Kobe do whatever then decided she could get some big money out of him then help rape. Not all but some females are very manipulative.
