Redskins re-sign Frost.
I'm glad they came to terms, as I would think this is a budget move. I also think Frost has earned a chance to keep improving and will.

Punter Frost Agrees to Return to Redskins By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com March 20, 2008 Derrick Frost (Don Wright Photo) Punter Derrick Frost has agreed to terms on a new contract with the Redskins, the team has announced. Frost completed his third season as the Redskins' punter. He was also the holder on field goal attempts, adding to his value on special teams. Frost produced a 41-yard punting average last year, good enough for 18th best in the league. His 36.4 average net yards was 21st in the league. He placed 23 punts inside the 20-yard line and produced a career-long of 64 yards in Week 1 vs. Miami. His best game may have been Week 6 in rainy conditions in Green Bay where he had eight punts for a 47.5-yard average. Frost's NFL career has been marked by bouts of inconsistency, but he has steadily improved as he has grown into the job. |

Me neither, even though I will say he will stick his nose in a broken play and make a tackle if he has to. But his punting is suspect. but that's JMO. |

Skinsfan_nn, thanks for the news
Genius statement by the great Mark Twain... I do not have any problems with Frosty. He seems to get the job done and a good holder is worth his weight in gold (sorry Cowgirls...). Next to a longsnapper, which we are set on for at least one more season, Its one of the most underrated, and most difficult things to do. I used to do both and holding isnt as easy as it looks. Off topic a bit but does anyone remember the Turk brothers? Freakin Dan Turk cost us the playoffs in '99/'00 (may have gotten the year wrong) then I couldnt stay mad at him cuz he died like a week later! RIP Dan Turk... |

I believe I read the other day Matt re-signed with the Texans (I Think) at 39 years old or something like a two year deal. |
Re: Redskins re-sign Frost.
Its good to see he's still hanging in there. He wasnt/isnt a bad punter IMO.

Im glad i can still make cold jokes about our punter. |
Re: Redskins re-sign Frost.
I like Derrick Frost..
I think he's earned his opportunity to stay and punt for us.. and I'll bet he continues to do a decent job.. It's a nice little move by the Skins. |

In unrelated news to the thread........lol Being it is a ex-SKIN, pretty sweet deal for Matt! Back to the thread, compare stats Turk vs Frost, pretty darn close. NFL life may not be beginning for punter Matt Turk at the age of 39, but it's definitely continuing. Turk, 39, agreed to a two-year, $2.35 million deal, which includes a $500,000 signing bonus, to stay in Houston. The fact that he was able to get a two-year deal at his age shows how well he won over the locker room and front office with his kicking. Most punters and place-kickers at his age are either out of football or receiving the minimum salary annually to play. Turk, who has punted for the Redskins, Dolphins, Jets and Rams, came to the Texans last year and had one of his better seasons. He had a 41.7 gross punting average, but what was most impressive was his 37.9 net, best in his career. His agent, David Canter, said Turk became actively involved in negotiations with Texans general manager Rick Smith to work out a deal that ran longer than one year. |

sorry, got a little carried away. |
Re: Redskins re-sign Frost.
Good to have Frost back. He's nothing special but he's serviceable and he comes at the right price.

Dunno about that: Who said, "Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt"? |
Re: Redskins re-sign Frost.
Glad Frost is back, he does a good job of getting the ball inside the 20 & that unit covers well. Punter is not exactly a face of the franchise position, but it'd be nice to have a guy stay there for a long while a la Mike Bragg.

Re: Redskins re-sign Frost.
Glad to see Frost back but it would be nice to see another punter drafted for competition.

Yeah, I hope we use one of our late picks, or go after some undrafted rookie. |
Re: Redskins re-sign Frost.
Frost is a decent punter. There is a chemistry or bond between Frost and Suisham. Kickers are a different breed, so to change the holder for Suisham could send him
into a slump. |
