SAINTS STILL AFTER SHOCKEY?

Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger, acting on the advice of Peter King in his MMQB column, has done some sniffing around regarding the interest of the New Orleans Saints in Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey.

Per Garafolo, the Saints previously offered a second-round pick and safety Roman Harper. The Giants said, “No thanks.”

The real question is whether the Saints will try again. King apparently thinks they will. Based on some of the things we’ve heard on the grapevine, we agree.

As always, stay tuned.

Honestly it seemed like the Giants were better once he went down. I wonder if they would ever let him go? I wouldn't be upset if he left the east.

That's really not a bad deal for him.

Re: Saints After Shockey?!

Their offense is fine. It's their defense that needs fine tuning. As long as they have Drew Brees at QB they'll be fine. If I worked for the Saints I would be looking over my offensive line and looking for Defensive players to help me out on the other side of the ball. To me it almost looks like the Saints are going in the same direction as the Rams did during the end of the Mike Martz era. Ironically I might also look for a Running Back in the 2nd or 3rd round, of course thats a little to general.

Besides we need Shockey to distract Eli Manning next year.

Don't give that moron the time of day,Shockey is good and is "one of" the best when healthy but that's the rub he's never healthy and he's not known as a great rout runner.

Re: Saints After Shockey?!

Shockey is a tool, but is also a very good TE, both as a reciever and blocker.

Based solely on football ability, I think the Giant's would be making a mistake going w/Kevin Boss as their starter. Sure he had some good games in their run to the super bowl and he might be a solid nfl player for years to come, but he's not going to make the plays Shockey does. I think Boss' success was just another part of a great run by the g-men. They will have a really tough time getting to .500 in 08 IMO. There's no way they can win like that again.

On the other hand, if Shockey is a problem on the team & not good for team chemistry, their success last year w/out him might not have been coincidental.

Defense??? They have a prolific enough offense with youngsters such as Reggie Bush and Marques Colston; as for the Saints defense, they're without a prayer.

You can't even begin to compare Shockey to Cooley, please.

Shockey is the most talented TE to have played the game, hands down, and this isn't even up for debate. Cooley's numbers are inflated due to there being no other real receiving options on the team. On a real team Cooley would be a backup at best and probably wouldn't catch more than 20 passes. I wouldn't expect you to know this since your lack of real football knowledge is so painfully obvious. I'm a football man, try to keep up. I watch the games, do you?

I dont know if the Saints want Shockey, btu youll feel like you've died, gone to heavan, and become a Saint if you try this recipe.

1 small over stuffer chicken, cooked and deboned
5 burrito sized flour tortilla wraps
1 bottle barbeque sauce of choice
1 bottle blue cheese dressing of choice
1 head of lettuce, shredded
1 tomato, thinly sliced
hot sauce

Pull the chicken into shreds with clean hands and place in a bowl or ziploc bag. Pour 1 bottle of barbeque sauce on top of it. Add ten drops of hotsauce into this and stir.
Heat wraps for ten second in microwave.

Place lettuce on wrap and two tomato slices. Spoon 1/5 of chicken mixture on top of lettuce and tomato. Cover with blue cheese dressing and fold in the two sides.

Fold the unfolded sides so that the two ends meet and tuck one into the other.

Cut in half and enjoy!

SHOCKEY TO SAINTS STILL SIMMERING?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 10, 2008, 9:02 a.m.
Last month, there were rumors and reports of discussions between the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants regarding a possible trade that would send tight end Jeremy Shockey from Broadway to the Bayou.

As we’d last heard it, the Giants wanted a second-round pick and safety Roman Harper, and the Saints declined.

But now renewed talk of a possible trade is emerging, from an unlikely source. Several readers have pointed out to us that WWE announcer Jim Ross has posted the following entry on his blog: “Reggie Bush was also at [WrestleMania] 24 and was hanging around Snoop Dogg’s trailer most of the afternoon on Sunday. My sources tell me that the New York Giants are going to trade outstanding TE Jeremy Shockey to Bush’s Saints, prior to the NFL draft. Shockey is an Oklahoma kid from Ada who told me last week he was looking forward to playing for the Saints.”

Shockey has been the subject of extensive speculation, given that he played no role in the team’s stunning postseason run. Some believe that Eli Manning never would have become a championship-caliber quarterback is Shockey had not been injured.

Re: Saints After Shockey?!

in regards to offiss said, we have a more productive, and better route runner who is able to play a complete season in cooley. Just look at the stats, they speak for themselves.

Shockey is overrated at best, he is just another one of the Winslow mold, who think that they are greater than they really are. Take a look at the best, Witten, Gonzalez, Gates, Cooley, and D. Clarke, those guys are not flashy but winners, and are clutch in situations. Shockey is at best a back up tight end right now. He is too much like T. O. all talk and can never make the big catch when his team needs it the most.

So for everyone that is jumping on the Shockey bandwagon, just compare the stats and the personalities of the fore-mentioned. Then realize we have a TE that is "one of the best".

I doubt many people here are jumping on any Shockey bandwagon. I can't really speak for anyone else but I know that I love Cooley and could care less about Shockey. I hope he goes to the Saints or wherever as long as I dont have to hear about him as much as I do now in the NFC east. I agree hes overrated and a whiner.

My little Giants Rant

This is interesting, although probably unlikely. If it did go through, however, I would not be surprised. The Giants winning the super bowl is going to work out so well for us. They have got to be the luckiest team in the league. They barely get by every game through inconsistency and luck, then enter the playoffs overrated, and still inconsistent. First, they beat up on a bunch of old dudes in Tampa, beat the overhyped Cowgirls, and then win in a heartbreaker against the packers in a game that Al Harris strait up blew. The only game they won, played hard and prevailed with great justice, was the Super Bowl. Then they wave off the QB problem, because now they have an MVP. Then they sign a highly inconsistent time-bomb coach to a multiyear deal. They are very full of themselves right now and think that they are the best team in the league. Dont be surprised to see Kevin Boss starting next season, along with Eli breaking the record for most games lost in the fourth quarter, and for most INTs in a season. Who needs to improve a defense that beat the #1 offense in the league? They are headed for trouble and I can deffinately see the Caint's taking advantage. The Giants only proved 4 things last year:

1. you do not have to participate in a mini-camp to win (Micheal Strahan)
2. you do not have to practice. ever. (Plaxico Burress)
3. Its okay to run your mouth and not block as long as you have a few good catches. (Shockey)
4. no matter how good you are, you will be forgotten next year. (Tiki Barber)

With a Super Bowl win comes great lessons in life, and the Giants learned just these. With these new lessons learned, mixed with a little luck, the Giants should win all of 3 games next season.

This is the Warpath, Saints after Shockey thread....? Right

This talk of Shockey going to the Saints seems to me like it would more than likely be a good move for both parties. The Giants sure don't need him, they proved that last season. If they can get some decent value/trade or draft picks for Shockey I would cut ties with him in a flash.

Sources: Saints, Shockey stuck in trade limbo

ESPN.com

Updated: April 25, 2008, 10:58 PM ET

Where's Jeremy Shockey? Still a member of the New York Giants.

New Orleans's apparent deal for tight end Jeremy Shockey has hit a delay because of the Giants' demand for more than a No. 2 draft pick for the former Pro Bowler, ESPN's John Clayton reports.

The Saints have been debating offering a No. 2 pick, according to sources, but some in the organization would prefer including no more than a No. 3 pick. New Orleans officials' reluctance makes the deal, which could get done on the draft-day clock or Saturday morning before the draft, difficult to pull off.

The Giants have already conducted a physical on Shockey, which could be offered to the Saints if he can't make it to New Orleans in time to have one. Sources indicate the Saints are seriously interested in Shockey, so a deal is likely to get done.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis this week has declined to discuss players under contract with any other team, and has been evasive while meeting with reporters at the Saints' training headquarters. He has apologetically said that he did not want to tip off other teams to the Saints' draft plans.

The 28-year-old Shockey, who earned the first NFL championship of his career in January, broke his leg on Dec. 16 in a game against the Washington Redskins and did not play in the Super Bowl.

He finished the 2007 regular season with 57 receptions and three touchdowns.
