Probably because he has three total catches in three seasons in the NFL, and at Auburn his best season was 23 catches for less than 300 yards. Yet another reason I shake my head at how badly much of the fan base is slurping this dude. |
Re: footage on anthony mix?
im not sold on him.

Re: footage on anthony mix?
The Skins will do something to address WR, whether it be a trade for Ocho Cinco, or a WR drafted in the 1st round. While Mix might have some potential as a No. 3 or No. 4, he's not the answer. Blind optimistic faith leads many.

Re: footage on anthony mix?
That's funny, the only footage anyone can find of him is from someone's cell phone camcorder during a pre-season game.
I'm negative about the whole Mix thing. And I hope people around here don't think it's just for the sake of being negative. I just think it's totally absurd to have so much faith, and frankly so much blind optimism in a dude who has done exactly nothing in the NFL and very little in college. I've said this before - I would love for the guy to pan out and become a big contributor to this team. But the chances are slim, and to stand pat at WR simply because we have him on the roster is just plain dumb. |
Re: footage on anthony mix?
^ agreed.... sure give him a shot, and work on improving him - cuz size and althleticism is what he DOES have... hands so i hear to, but yea, blind faith is obsurd, work with the guy, maybe he becomes a solid 3 or 4 or both in rotation..
drafting marcus monk or jordy nelson i still feel is needed. |

drafting marcus monk or jordy nelson i still feel is needed.
He's projected as a 6th rounder at best, more likely 7th round. I wouldn't say drafting him is necessarily needed, but it could be interesting, as long as we don't reach for him. Besides, and I said this in another thread, we already have Marcus Monk. His name is Anthony Mix. |

Ok, lets give him a shot in pre-season and find out that he is a bust, but exactly who do we move on with? |

This is so true...you can't go into the season needing a big WR and try to bank on one who has done nothing anywhere since high school. It really doesn't make sense. |
Re: footage on anthony mix?
Wow, it's been a while since our last Mix thread. LOL
But seriously, people need to chill a bit. Just because some people are optimistic about seeing what he can do does not mean that they have blind faith or are banking on Mix to be the next superstar WR. Sometimes optimism is just optimism. I'm looking forward to seeing what he's capable of too. |
Re: footage on anthony mix?
Yo tambien. All I have been saying is that even excluding that extremely lucky special teams play in Seattle, he has been around the ball on teams and he is working. hell I didnt know who Mix was until the latter half of the season, but I started noticed him because he was making plays.

Re: footage on anthony mix?
I remember when we first got him...reading the NYG message boards. They were genuinely pissed that they let him go... (granted they probably got over it fairly shortly)
Mix earned his his spot on this team in 08, and has himself an opportunity to get a hard look as a 3rd or 4th wide out. He's the kind of receiver (size wise) that everyone (including me) has been saying we need. He'll get his shot... and that's far more than I would have ever expected out of some no-name NYG castoff. I share the optimism felt for him... but he realistically holds little value at this point. I think it's a mistake to stay pat with the WR's we've got. We've got two slot type guys in ARE & Moss, and it gets awfully ambiguous as to what's left on the roster. What do I think we need? Possession type? Yeah... but that's a pretty broad term. I think we need someone big, that runs solid routes across the middle... someone that will force the safeties to cheat in. Doesn't have to be a speedster, but has to mismatch against LB's. We need a threat across the middle. Someone to give ARE and Moss the sidelines for screens and fades. ---------- Here's a random snapshot I took of special teams huddled up during the buffalo game. Mix looks pretty big compared to some of those other guys. |
Re: footage on anthony mix?
Mix actually does have good college per play numbers, and I think it's safe to say he was undervalued by not getting drafted.
Of course...that means he probably should have been a 6th or 7th round pick. Mix was a good pickup by the FO, but will probably never enter a season as the starter for any team, and certainly not a Redskins team that features two receivers that are locked up for the forseeable future, and looks to add another receiver high in the draft this season. Mix just isn't going to "make it" here, which doesn't mean the Skins can't expect him to contribute. I mean, he has two legs, two hands, and the ability to play special teams...so the Redskins should expect something from Anthony Mix. |
Re: footage on anthony mix?
What do you guys think about Mario Manningham in the second round if no offensive line prospect impresses us at that slot? He's the only WR I would consider taking on the first day.

I think he's a pretty good prospect. I heard somewhere that he's best described as a poor man's Torry Holt and has the potential to be a playmaker in this league. He recently put away doubts about his speed by running a 4.38 at his pro day, so to the people who like to argue combine numbers, he's not a 4.5 guy. Some people don't like him because he's not 6'1 or over, and I've heard that he's had character issues, but if it's another obstruction of justice guy I can live with it. Turns out that he might be making his way back into the 1st round, but I think it's still possible that he'll fall to us in the 2nd round. He has what I look for in a prospect this early in the draft, good measureables to match college production, but I would still rather have Nelson. Obviously people are going to freak out if we draft him, but personally I would support it. Especially if we find a way to get 2 second round picks. I'd say another 'small' guy that will get a look for the Redskins is Houston's Donnie Avery. Apparently though for some reason a guy who writes for the Buc's predicted that the Buc's would take him in the first round all because he ran a 4.38 at his pro day. Personally I think thats hog wash, and don't really see a guy who was seen previously as a 3rd round prospect jumping all the way up to the first round this late in the process. However he has decent size (5'11), production (1,400+ yards), and speed. |
Re: footage on anthony mix?
I'm not sure what to think about the WR issue. I read a piece about Cooley on yahoo sports that said he would like to line up as a receiver (in some situations) and that it's been discussed among the coaches. I'm not saying this is a long term answer, but Cooley is about as productive as any guy on the field once he's got the ball in his hands. This could give Mix time to develop into an offensive player, or if we draft a receiver (not until the 3rd round I hope) it would give that guy time.

Monk is more talented than a lot here think he is. ps- his draft stock has gone up and he is now projected to be a 4th rounder. |
Re: footage on anthony mix?
^ Just wanted to add that drafting talent on the o-line, especially B. Albert, would give Cooley more ops to do this in the slot or even outside. Poor guy got stuck blocking way too much last season because of our decimated line. A healthy line with good depth opens up lots of options...
ok, ya'll can probably tell I'd like to see Cooley get more ops. Seriously, the dude fights for every inch out there and should be catchin passes not blocking d-ends. Just my 2 cents. |

ps- his draft stock has gone up and he is now projected to be a 4th rounder.
Yeah, but you never know. HB Blades was an EXTREMELY PRODUCTIVE college player that was projected as a fourth rounder. Turns out he ended up going to us in the 6th round. The later a guy goes in the draft the harder it is to project where he's going to end up. |
Re: footage on anthony mix?
I actually saw the most extensive footage of Mix on some of the Jason Campbell youtube highlights from college. I would just watch some of those and look for the super tall guy i think he wore #89. Mix is a good prospect but we cannot afford to put too much hope on him we need to draft a WR with some size in the first 3 rounds. Wouldnt mind Monk at all but we need to invest in some solid depth towards the end of the draft for our lines.
