It doesn't take long to satisfy a woman in bed (from fox news)
FOXNews.com - Optimal Sex Takes 3 to 13 Minutes, Study Finds - Health News | Current Health News | Medical News
NEW YORK — Maybe men had it right all along: It doesn't take long to satisfy a woman in bed. A survey of sex therapists concluded the optimal amount of time for sexual intercourse was 3 to 13 minutes. The findings, to be published in the May issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, strike at the notion that endurance is the key to a great sex life. If that sounds like good news to you, don't cheer too loudly. The time does not count foreplay, and the therapists did rate sexual intercourse that lasts from 1 to 2 minutes as "too short." Researcher Eric Corty said he hoped to ease the minds of those who believe "more of something good is better, and if you really want to satisfy your partner, you should last forever." The questions were not gender-specific, said Corty. But he said prior research has shown men and women want foreplay and sexual intercourse to last longer. Dr. Irwin Goldstein, editor of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, cited a four-week study of 1,500 couples in 2005 that found the median time for sexual intercourse was 7.3 minutes. (Women in the study were armed with stopwatches.) It's difficult for both older men and young men to make sexual intercourse last much longer, said Marianne Brandon, a clinical psychologist and director of Wellminds Wellbodies in Annapolis, Maryland. "There are so many myths in our culture of what other people are doing sexually," Brandon said. "Most people's sex lives are not as exciting as other people think they are." Fifty members of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research in the U.S. and Canada were surveyed by Corty, an associate professor of psychology at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and student Jenay Guardiani. Thirty-four members, or 68 percent, responded, although some said the optimal time depended on the couple. Corty said he hoped to give an idea of what therapists find to be normal and satisfactory among the couples they see. "People who read this will say, 'I last five minutes or my partner lasts eight minutes,' and say, 'That's OK,' " he said. "They will relax a little bit. |

If I give her 3 min., she will want 6, so I tell her 1 and a half. She gets her 3 minuites, but I'm watching the clock. She gets a 3% time increase every year, while I get a 25% decrease in frequency every 6 months. Before you know it I am going to be 35 and having sex twice a year for 5 minuites. LOL! Edit that was an overly dramatic exaggeration. Please do not take literally. |

Not over, but on life support. |

Depends on the woman you marry. We go hot and cold, I guess her hormones are cyclical or something. One week it will be three times a week. Then it can be a number of weeks with nothin. Dry spells aren't a big deal though as long as the sex you do get is really good. Quality over quantity, any day. The quality is easily the most important thing. |

It's just a slow slide the longer you're together. It used to be 2-3 times a day when we were 15-16, now after 10 years and our first year or marriage, I get a weekday and a weekend day... Lame, but we're guys, it's never enough... |

LOL Nah, the dry spell doesn't get me down. If I'm grouchy around here it's probably because I'm hungry! |

Definitely quality over quantity though.. And 724Skinsfan, you should be ashamed of yourself (or maybe I should ) |

Judging by what I'm reading I'm guessing allot of you married guys (and you wives) are younger then your mid to late thirties and you female partners haven't hit their sexual prime yet. My wife did in the last year (when she turned 38) and we have been married for 13 years up until then and let me tell you our sex life has hit levels I never imagined it would. Not that it wasn't any good before, but it got allot better, and much more frequent. (It helps if you’re really in love as well!)

So what you are saying is that in 2 years it's ON! Sweet, I cannot wait! |

Yeah that's true, from a hormonal perspective women tend to hit their stride sometime in their 30s. I wonder if that's an evolutionary thing; maybe women evolved to have a big sex drive around that time in order to get preggers and reproduce before menapause hits. But whatever, there's some medical evidence to back that up. It doesn't happen to every woman the exact same way or at the exact same time, but most women will see an uptick in sex drive sometime in their 30s. Tough thing is men tend to begin slowly losing testosterone levels at age 30. So a lot of the times men see a decline in sex drive. But if you stay in shape, specifically keeping your muscle mass up through your 30s, you'll likely stave off those effects. Hit the weights and then hit that! |
Man, so it really is true that when you get married, your sex life is over?
Not completely true, but is based in fact. My wife and I have more now than we did when we were 1 year into the marriage (will be 11 years of marriage in May). A lot of women use sex to attract and keep a man when dating, and want to turn it into marriage. Once they are married, the sex slows down because she acheived her goal of marriage. Not all have these issues, but most have some form. For instance my brother got regular "oral" when he was dating, as soon as they got married, it stopped completely. I do mean completely. It happens. Hopefully you marry someone that is understanding, and willing to please you even if it's not heated like it was when you first got married / dated. |

Good points. I didn't really think about the age. My wife is 34 and it's gotten better each year. |
