Brian Mitchell
 

During the local Comcat pregame show before the Panthers game, Brian Mitchell was a guest and was praising the move Snyder made in hiring Gibbs back. He also said (shockingly) that if he made the HoF, he would go in as a Redskin. He even said that even though he left on bad terms in '90, that in retrospect, he was always a Redskin at heart.

Now after reading [URL=http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A4863-2004Aug16.html]this article in the Post[/URL], I see he's still out of work after being cut by the Giants last February. Gibbs drafted him, Mitchell loves Gibbs, and it's looking more and more like his old #30 will be available again soon (poor Iffy).

Do you thnk he's coming back? It sure as hell wouldn't shock me.

I don't. We have one of the best return men in the game, Mitchell has lost a step. If they bring him in, bring him in for FO duty.

Why not? Only Payton and Rice have more total career yards.

By the way... he left after the '99 season. The Redskins drafted him in '90.

i think rice is behind mitchell by 213 yards...

The Skins should sign him so he can officially retire as a Redskin.

He should have never left, another classic move by Danny boy.

Rice is in first im pretty sure, but Mitchell is definitly a head of payton, has been for years I think.

I dont see us getting mitchell.

I agree. If you guy's remember Mitchell was slowing down so much when we cut him, all he could do was score the only T.D we had on a kick return in our last playoff game vs Tampa!
I was really bummed out when we cut him! :mad: Bad move by Danny boy! Brain Mitchell should definitely retire as a REDSKIN!!

LOL.. you're right. I was thinking he left before the 2000 (not 1990) season. I never was much of a proof-reader!

mitchell wasnt resigned because he wanted a hefty salary, which we didnt want to pay. he had to go.

so instead we gave his money to Deion

who here wouldn't take B Mitch over Deion??

Snyder was young and learning. He thought the big name would attract people, and I guess thought he had a lot more than that left!

Aren't those stats enough to get Mitchell into the HoF? He did most of it on special teams, making him one of the best special teamers of all time. I don't think he wants to retire just yet, though. He wants to play, like always. He had a lot of heart and talked a lot of trash as a skin. Gibbs does love vets...

bring him back for publicity.

I think Mitch is a Hall of Famer, whether the HOF voters agree is another story.

They typically don't like special teamers and "specialists".

He is nominally a lifelong fan of the Redskins, right? So you might suspect that he knows that the Skins sell out every game no matter what team is on the field. And if he did not know that before, wouldn't he have found that out when he did his "due diligence" and examined the Skins' books before he bought the team?

The fact is that Danny Boy thought - thinks? - he is a football genius just because he made enough money in the private secotr to buy a team. Unfortunately, he cut loose people like Mitchell and drove Brad Johnson out of town in order to bring in Deion and Jeff George. It's hard to make up a fantasy where that turns out to be a good idea

I agree 100% Matty.

BM was here through those horrible years in the 90s and was our ONLY bright spot. He was the only guy I would look forward to watching every weekend.

Then as soon as the Skins become good again (or so we thought) they dump him so they can bring in f*&*&n PrimeTime!!

It always bugged me and I've continued to cheer for BM every time he touches the ball. Even when he plays the Skins I cheer for him to run one back in our face (he's the only guy that fits this category).

I'd be thrilled to have BM back in any capacity, and would definitely like to see him retire a Redskin.

He said he would retire a redskins, I guess it would be nice to let him acutally play for us in his final seasons. Can he play right tackle?

If I remember right Brian got almost 20,000 of his 23,330 yards on special teams, something like 14,500 kick returns and 4,900 on punt returns. And he leds a Wide Reciever and a Running Back in all time yards!!!! Brian only got the ball every so often unlike Rice and Payton where every play they had an oppertunity to get the ball to them. I definitly think that he should be in the HOF. The voters should also take in to consideration the players that define a postition, and I think that Mitchell was one of, if not the best returners to ever play!!!

I am not sure I understand, I am not comparing Brian Mitchell's numbers to Rice's numbers, it is just a matter of fact that Brian Mitchell is the leader for net yards gained in the nfl. Now if you are talking over all numbers including TD's and yards per carry or catch and what not then I do not know where Brian Mitchell would stand against Rice or anyone else.

I see the big numbers... but does anyone here think of him as a dominating player? Someone you knew you had to stop, but knew you couldn't? In my mind that's the mark of a Hall of Famer. I don't see it.

As far as HOF, he is no shoe-in, but it is definitely not out of reach for him. Most productive overall, most versatile. Don't forget all of his contributions on 2nd/3rd and long, both running and receiving. And a total team player. He was huge for the Redskins.

I know I for one thought he was a dominant player cuz almost every time he touched the ball, until the past couple years(even though he was still a threat), that he had a chance to make a big return. He didn't really have burner speed but he knew how to find the holes and break through possible tackles. And to be as productive as he's been at a position that is a lot tougher then some people make it out to be is incredible.

and I know his numbers can't truly compare to jerry rice's to some people, if not most, but for anyone to have more total yards then jerry rice, they need to atleast recieve strong consideration for the hof.

He was a difference maker on ST, I can't see how HOF voters can dispute that but then again who knows with them. The amount of total yardage he racked up is pretty damn impressive.

Here's another potential bubble guy, is Larry Centers a HOF guy? He has a ton of catches.

Matty, good call with Centers. He's got well over 800 receptions. But for the most part they're all 5 yard dump offs. I think I'd have to say no, especially if Monk isn't considered Hall worthy

As for B Mitch, he's a friend so I'm biased in saying he should be there

I was going to bring that up... there is only one special teamer in the hall of fame, Jan Stenerud. I think it's probably more likely that on of these two guys you mentioned will get serious consideration before BMitchell. I certainly would not be upset if Ray Guy gets in, but I don't know about Morten... I think honestly Vinatieri has a better shot once he retires than Morten.

Personally, though, I think Mitchell should be in.

I think Anderson and Guy should definitely be in. They were both premier players at their positions regardless of the fact they were 'just kickers'. Give them their props.

LOL.... go AARP! So are you thinking about Gary Anderson (2346 points) or Morten Andersen (2259 points)? Both have been in the league for 23 years. Amazing.

It probably wouldn't hurt for us to have Mitchell back as some sort of back up return man or an alternate third down back if possible.
