Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
After an intriguing Day 1 of the draft that saw our Burgandy and Gold load up on talent for the west coast offense questions have already emerged about possible trades. Seems to be a consensus that Thrash, Mix and Mathis are out of the offense and possibly on the trading block. Maybe we keep one or two of these guys for special teams. But the real intrigue is whether Moss, ARE, or Cooley could be traded.
I highly doubt that Cooley is going anywhere. Many of you have pointed out a two TE set could be implemented, which would give defenses a lot of trouble between these two phenoms. But ARE and Moss are a different story. Already I've heard rumblings about ARE, but I think it could be Moss instead. Moss has been more injury prone. He has shown sometimes bewilderingly poor hands (more on this later). But most of all he has displayed the most WR-like character, if you will, in terms of moodiness and attitude. Throughout last season's injuries and sub-par performances Moss seemed to have a "what can you do" attitude. And he's been the unquestioned #1 WR since arriving in Washington, making him the most likely to get ruffled by serious competition. And then there is the playoff loss to Seattle. With our current HC standing on the sidelines (the other side) Moss dropped several critical passes. But despite these criticisms, Moss likely holds greater trade value than ARE because of the few great seasons he's had, and that could make trading him (if a trade is being considered) more attractive. We have at least a few serious needs to address and not enough good picks to suffice. Moss may give us the DE, DT or offensive lineman that will save us from another year of trouble in the trenches. |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Not a chance Cooley or Moss gets traded.
Thrash will stay for special teams...if anything, Mix and Mathis will be released if they don't perform well in training camp. My guess will be that Mix will not make the roster and will be signed to the practice squad. Mathis may be let go so he can make another roster. Seeing two WRs taken in the draft so far, shows that the Skins are looking for a big play compliment to Santana....so saying that he could be traded, is out of the realm of possibility. Chris Cooley will not be traded. |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
I put my money on Mix making the team plus I bet he is pretty upset at the fact that the Redskins seem not to trust him enough not to pick two WR's in the same round of the draft.
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
You think we should look into trading Santana Moss because we drafted some young WR's? What the hell are you smoking because if I still smoked that wacky shit I want whatever you got right now!!!
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
I think that none of the three will get traded. Moss has done a lot for us since he has been here and probably the only reason we made it to the playoffs in '05.
ARE runs the greater risk of being traded but he will not. Last year, he stepped up and looked more like a #1 receiver than Moss did. His punt returner sucks though which is why we brought in Mathis. Cooley just got a new contract is isn't going anywhere anytime soon, period. I think Jim Zorn will find a way to get these 5 guys (Moss, ARE, Cooley, Thomas, Kelly) involved in this wet coast offense. |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Why would we need to trade anyone? I would have thought if we were going to make a trade we would have mentioned it to the Bungles back when we made the offer for Chad.

Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Mix out? No way! Didn't you guys see the play in the Seattle game when the kickoff bounced to him and he caught it? He's a special teams ace ;)
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Oh brother. Here we go already making trades after yesterdays draft. Come on. The WCO needs tools. So we got them addressed. Now we move on to the rest of our needs thru today's draft and June casulties.
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Who gives a crap if Mix is upset? Need I remind people that he has 3 NFL catches? Replacing him will be 2 2nd round draft picks. I hope he does get mad and proves everybody that he is all the sudden a phenomenal football palyer despite his ENTIRE track record. But I guess the Mix bandwagon will keep on trucking.
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
WCO need these players, they are going no wheres. just think about it.. if we were to throw out a 4 or 5 receiver set. what would it have looked like last year.. compared to when we throw that same formation out this year.
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
They all get traded. Teams are giving away entire drafts to get wr's right now. There just aren't any quality wr's looking to be traded so it would be simple to get a couple #1 picks for Moss and probably a young Pro Bowl DE for ARE. And the $13 million cap hit we take trading Cooley is easily offset by Brett Favre coming out of retirement to play for vet minimum.
These are all depth picks, not immediate starters. Of course, if Thomas kicks ass in training camp and looks like Randy Moss in preseason then I guess we have a new #1. |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Who knows, maybe we can get two 3's and a 4th for Santana.

It looks to me like Mix will be given a chance to compete and try to make the team. But he may have been brought on more so to give the impression to other teams that we werent as desperate for receivers as we apparently are. Thus enabling us to trade down, and still get the 1st or 2nd best receiver in the draft. |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
the answer is....................NOBODY! Moss and Randle el will stay. Cooley doesnt even need to be mentioned as trades go. by week 10. Moss on one side, Thomas/Kelly the other, Randle el in the slot. Cooley at TE. Davis for double TE sets. the non Thomas/Keely starter as 4th receiver. ARE can concentrate more on punt returns. Thrash may or can stay because he's a special teams guy. Mix, released! Mathis, released!. Thrash, Caldwell, McCardell. those were 3,4,5 last year. Wait to you see what Jason does with these guys. Ceratto knows what he's doing. He'll add some depth in later rounds. and next year maybe concentrate on defense. We may have set our receiving core for 2010, 2011, 2012.

Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Nobody will get traded. It took 2 people to replace Lloyd. After all he was a key loss if you look on the ESPN line during the draft. :Smoker:
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Schneed reminded me of this last night.....look at the cap hits before you even think about trade. No way Moss or ARE are going anywhere before 2010.
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
If we were going to trade any WR's we would have put them up to get Chad. Mix and Thrash are still very good on special teams, and Mathis will compete for returner. That leaves Moss at #1, and its open season for 2-4. We have a perfect scenerio for our WR corps including a great TE to play the other side when Cooley is not open. Also, Cooley is a hell of a blocker, so I see him in the blocking schemes a little more with Portis being used underneath in the passing game. JC has soooo many options now an I am starting to get excited!

Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
I love Santana, but know with all of the new wideouts I would consider a trade with the Eagles for Lito straight up.
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Nobody is getting traded.. We have a great balance of size and speed now at the WR position and I don't see us messing with that anytime soon. Remember the games in the middle of last season when James Thrash was starting? JAMES THRASH!!! We needed 2 more legitimate WR if for no other reason than to not have such a huge drop off when Moss and ARE inevitably get injured..
I personally love the draft so far (but admittedly scratched my head with the Kelly pick when it happened) and as an offensive guy who wants to see us put up 28 pts a game I am excited to see Campbell play with his new toys. |

hmmmm... #1 speed wideout for a at best dimeback who cant start 10 games in a season. That sounds GREAT!!!! |

Yeah, I noticed that too. |
Who knows, maybe we can get two 3's and a 4th for Santana.
If we could actually get that it might be tempting. Who knows? Hey everybody! I didn't say I thought anybody should be traded. I wasn't the first one to hypothesize a trade either (see 08 draft thread). But I still believe the points I opened with are valid. Good counterpoints have been made too - especially the salary cap hit. |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Chill out I don't think anybody is getting traded. People need to put away their jump to conclusions mats.
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
hopefully these guys will be able to make an impact this season, this should make all our WR & TE step up and work harder to learn the new system so they can play.
|
hmmmm... #1 speed wideout for a at best dimeback who cant start 10 games in a season. That sounds GREAT!!!!
Doesn't though. Again, I love Moss but we need a cb. I don't know I just did a wake and bake. |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
No chance anyone in our receiving corps gets traded. In fact if anyone gets traded I bet you it's Malcolm Kelly, and even that won't happen.
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
WCO will run many 2 TE sets I'd imagine, so you're not going to deal one of the best TEs in the game.
I expect Moss AND ARE to stay through the year at the very least. We're going to be running 4 WR sets and you can't guarantee Thomas and Kelly will be starting at the beginning of the season. Moss, ARE, Thomas, Kelly would be a formidable lineup if the rookies pan out well. Who else would we put out there? Thrash, Mix, etc? |

I like Cooley as much as anyone but I have not noticed this at all. |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
you guys gotta stop thinking we're going to trade Moss Coley or even ARE just because we drafted two of the best WR available as well as a TE. They are ROOKIES, they don't have any NFL experience and you would think the team is ready to trade stars like Moss or Cooley???
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Cooley and Moss are going nowhere.
How much value do you think Thrash, Mix and Mathis have? Why would anyone want to trade for them? Really? |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
I think ARE could be packaged. I dont think it will be a good idea, but other than that passing gimmicky ability, Devin Thomas makes his role kinda futile. In thomas you have alot of the elusiveness on Special Teams and on the flanks that ARE has. But ARE is most likely not going anywhere. I think either Jansen or Samuels could be packaged as well. Heyer deserves a fighting shot at starting at either tackle spot this year.
I like Cooley as much as anyone but I have not noticed this at all.
He started in three games in last year's preseason as an OT. His side stayed pretty well blocked. It was the other side's backups that scared me. |

Cooley played tackle in the preseason?? Say what? |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
Heyer, maybe?
|
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
This thread is insane. Nobody is going to be traded. Somebody might get released after training camp. Drafting talented players just increases the competition at training camp and in the long run the team will be better because of it. If a player gets released, it because he couldn't cut it. The players that produce will be retained. I'm all for competition.

Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
So the draft is over less than 24 hours and we're talkin' trades already? How about we let these guys (old and new) have at least a minicamp in the new offense before we have them shipped out?
Is it too early to start talking about next year's draft? Mods please start the 09' draft thread... |

He was very upset last year with the way he performed in a couple of games and I see him as a player that wants to make plays and lead this team. The O line lost the game in Seattle not Moss and I can only remember that one play where he failed to go after the ball and allowed the guy to int. and get a good return. |

Dude.... you cant be serious, that would probably be one of the worst moves of all time for our franchise |
Re: Who Do You Think Will Be Traded?
the only person that I would trade is ARE. He is vastly overpaid of rhis production the last two years, but first I would ask him to take a drastic pay cut. If he didn't, then I would trade or release him.
If he can be traded to a WR hungry teams for a DE or LB, then I'd consider that a good deal. As for Jansen, Samuels, and Moss, whoever said they needed to be traded needs to have their "fan card" suspended. Out of all of the plays that were listed ARE has been here the shortest amount of time, and he hasn't captured thge heasrts of skins fans by his play. The aforementioned players have, and deservew to stay while we make this next run. |
