F... deer part deux
I can scratch one more thing off my list of things I didn't want to do before I die and that's hit a deer with my car.
My new car that I've barely had for 2 months. The damn thing darted out in front of me and I barely had time to brake. It bounced off my front grill and flew over the car, it was probably dead on impact. Surprisingly enough I have very little damage to my front bumper. I expected it to be much worse, and thankfully my wife and I are fine so I guess that's what really matters. I'll just need a new bumper and I'll be good to go. Still sucks though. F... deer! |

re: F... deer part deux
Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you were pretty lucky though. My girlfriend's father's new Caddy was pretty much wrecked after he hit a deer.

re: F... deer part deux
You are lucky Matty, because deer accidents could easily kill those involved. I was in one too, it is scary. I am glad you are ok

Yeah it was pretty scary. We were lucky it flew over the car and didn't come up and hit the windshield after it bounced off the grill. I did what I could to try to avoid it but I just didn't have enough time. |

Taste Great...............Less Filling.

Being in the insurance business and seeing this all the time, I am sorry to hear it happened to you. NEVER try to avoid hitting a animal, especially at higher speeds. I can't tell you the number of times people have died when trying to avoid a animal in the roadway! Flipping over, hitting a tree, etc... I know, I wouldn't like hitting the animal either, but 90% of the time you will be better off not attempting evasive manuvers. Glad to hear you and the Mrs. are ok. |

Braking causes the front end of your car to dip down a little bit, making it more likely that the deer will be scooped up onto your hood and into the winshield. If you don't brake, the chances are higher that the furry effer will just get bounced forward. I effin hate those things too. One ran into the side of my wife's car, literally the driver's side, while she was driving through a wooded area. Gotta be one of the dumbest animals ever. |

He basically said that if anything I ought to actually hit the gas and plow right through it.
Then again, while getting ready for a big party my told also once told me, "if there's only one thing you remember after I die, it's that you can never have too much ice." He's an interesting fellow. |

They tested this myth a number of times and, each time, hitting the accelerator acutally caused more damage to the vehicle. The dip in the front of the vehicle caused by the acceleration is very small, but the increased speed causes significant additional damage. The Mythbusters "findings" seem to accord with common sense. |

That seems to make more sense to me too. If I had hit it at 60 mph as opposed to the 40-45 mph I was going after slamming on the brakes I imagine there would have been a lot more damage than there was. |
Re: F... deer part deux
It flew over the car? What type of car were you driving? Obviously not an SUV right? If you were in a Hummer you probably could've just ran the thing over. :silly:
Glad you guys are okay. :) |

Re: F... deer part deux
I had a similar accident a few years ago where I literally knocked the shit out of the deer. Upon impact it crapped all over my front windshield, but luckily I was only going about 30 mph and the deer was able to get up and ran away and a bumper later my car was as good as new.

Re: F... deer part deux
damn dude, that sucks. I remember the first brand new vehicle I ever got was a 2004 gmc sierra, fully loaded z71, and it got hit in the side by a deer a month after i brought it home. it was heartbreaking... i feel ya.
